  1. Where is the UCI sticker?
  2. I am riding a 12 - 27, a bit soft I know. But have never been dropped from the A, B, C & D PPA groups where I normaly race. I have never spun out and have clapped close to 100 km/h down Hels Hoogte. The 27 is still pretty shiny and I dont realy get much use out of it in a race, but occasionaly it has been an absolute godsend, sometimes you just need a bit of zip up a hill towards the end of a race
  3. Basic supply and demand. The organisers charge what they feel they can. The entry fee seems pretty standard for seeding events, which tend to be the bigger, better organised events. Sure it is a bit irritating that a few years ago it seems that we were only paying a few tenners for an entry, but times move on and we have seen rampant price increases in SA, and that affects the whole race organisation. I see that the charities are Race Against Tik and the Salvation Army, not a bad place to put your spare cash, so see your entry fee benefiting others that you may not have helped othewise. Sorry, but if you cant afford it or dont want to pay, dont. Try running it is a far more affordable sport, believe me race prices are not going to drop, ever.
  4. I think that I am going to hold off on my tax return, just in case.
  5. God doesnt really make it easy to find God himself / herself
  6. I have simply had so many bad experiences at almost all the LBS's in the Southern Peninsula, that I have kitted myself with the tools that I need and get parts from CRC. Whenever I need something specialist done by the LBS I am shocked at the poor service, lack of knowledge and poor workmanship that I recieve. I can recall an expirience at each LBS which turned me off of them for life, from have parts stolen off my bike, to a LBS that forgot to put my Chainset back on. The LBS's need to learn that it is not only about price, they need to bring themselves up to scratch with good quality service. I am quite willing to pay more to drop my bike off, order the bits I need and have them fitted, but it is simply less painfull going through CRC and doing it myself, At least I know that it has been done right.
  7. scary stuff I ride along that road at least twice a week. It is pretty safe unless the cars are speeding and forced to cut the corners. Hope they catch the bugger
  8. Seriously this is the interweb, every page that you click on is covered in ads, surely you just ignor them and move on. I think outsurance needs a bit of a break after their campaign with that rugby player who can't catch a ball
  9. Has anyone signed up for this, any feedback? did you get spammed?
  10. I dont see a dropped chain as a mechanical, that's rider error, Contador, as much as I think he is a Schmuck had the right to go
  11. Try spitting at them, they often stop to "investigate" the loogie lying on the road. Otherwise, there are laws that should be enforced, phone your local municipal law enforcement office, try it before you scoff, these guys are pretty good, at least they are in Cape Town.
  12. you gotta pack your bike as if you expect it to get chucked around and stuff packed on top of it, if you just bag it or wheel it on you are asking for trouble. Its common sense, look at the calibre of bagage handlers, do you realy expect your most beloved possessions to be handled with care
  13. You can set a spinning bike as near as dammit to your MTB, I feel 100 % comfortable on a spinning bike at the gym. I also have an IDT, and I hate the bloody thing, shreds your tyres, is uncomforable and is pretty boring. I get a far better work out in a spinning class than at home on the IDT. Take out a gym membership if you dont have one already, its probably cheeper than a spinning bike and the "scenery" is much better
  14. start the move to Sram XX
  15. Intense Spider Santa Cruz Blur
  16. That is absolutly pathetic. You must register a complaint with the independent complaints directorate
  17. I recall that Cannondale ran a head shock at P R some years ago
  18. It is easy, you just need to be prepared for the horrible snapping sound as the lock-nut releases.
  19. Darren Lill did it in about 39 minutes if I recall correctly, that is pretty quick. Apparently he cracked the Schwinn frame on the way down, but that could have been the singletrack. It can be done, but I wouldnt do it will less than a 38 x 27. I would recomend a practice run if you are serious.
  20. Careful what you say here, Julius may be a member of the Hub
  21. wisecrack has it spot on. When you are in high gear at the back (ie the smallest cog) the chain is under fairly low tenson, so when you drop from the big blade up front, the chain tension is reduced even more so there is a tendancy for the chain to drop because there is basicaly so little tension holding it onto the chainring teeth. The remedy is to change onto the middle of the spocket before shifting on the front derailleur
  22. The reaction of the cyclist aside. I would like an explanation from Running Man , he said that the cyclist swung into the road / lane. Was the cyclist riding off road at the time? I know that section of road well, there is no shoulder at the point mentioned, so the cyclist will have to be riding in the road, as he is permitted. It sounds to me that Running Man was passing the cycists closer than is permitted. The road at that point is fairly wide and there is plenty of space to pass two cyclists (who are in the action of overtaking). Running Man is required to pass with a metre to spare, this should be enough to allow for the passing cyclist. Did he observe this rule of the road? I also have to ask Running Man. You have seen a cyclist pass another and then you see him preparing to do it again and indeed watch him do it, all the while driving in a manner that puts you in a position of conflict. Sounds a little passive aggressive to me. Please explain to me why you didnt simply give him more room or slow down to avoid a potential accident. The bottom line, you are driving lethal weapon weighing in over a ton. Please next time expect the cyclist to ride like a tosser and you rather drive more defensively. At least this incident may have been avoided. Believe me, his fault or not, you dont want to be burdened with taking anothers life.
  23. The after sales support and servicing makes it worth your while to go for the Polar
  24. I would also like to "thank" CTD for putting the "fun" in the VA bunch, I am glad you enjoyed yourself on Sunday. I am still recovering
