  1. I would say that the lesser rolling resistance of slicks will be more of a benefit that the penalty of the extra weight. Go with slicks - better yet just put the slicks onto the lighter wheels or do you have incompatible tubeless & non-tubeless rims?
  2. Looks like fun, Purnjap can you give us a date when the entries open.
  3. My 80's singlespeed with what's left of the campy c-record grouppo
  4. The proposal has bike bypass lanes, a little like the existing system, but with sharp metal spikes that shoot up and spear anyone who is riding with white shorts, euro kit or a saddle bag. I agree with Wannabe; if so many Cyclists continue to behave like Chappies belongs to them the toll fees will come.
  5. I think it looks ok, I would prefer it if it wasn't going to be there, but that horse is dead so there is no purpose in flogging it further The first pic is looking from the Noordhoek Side towards Hout Bay Second pick is looking from the Hout Bay side towards Noordhoek. The building nestles quite sensitively in the old quarry
  6. Excellent any excuse to show a Gautie how to ride around our town. South: B group - Because I also suck at being a SubVet, but even more so than Velouria (but then I have two kids to blame)
  7. Plenty of parking in town, I normally park along Buitengracht Street, which is close to the start and an easy 2 km ride from the finish, then can head home via the N1.
  8. Weather SA says 19 km / hour winds, still that's not too bad for my backyard. I am so looking forward to this one, I think we are going to have a really fast hard ride.
  9. Good for her, she seems to be doing her bit for cycling in Cape Town and she seems intent on getting more bike lanes built.
  10. My advise is to get one of these , then both legs in perfect harmony... and you will never fall over either
  11. Good luck, not too many guys get under three in the E Group, make sure you start at the front of the group and make sure you get a clear run up Edinburgh Drive, many a sub three attempt has been foiled there due to an unfortunate split in the group
  12. Willing buyer - willing seller, I have no problem with someone selling their entry for as much as they can get.
  13. What cycling lane past the river club? I have never seen one there?
  14. Its about time you got a bit of gridlock in that sleepy town you live in, anyway why aren't you riding to work?
  15. I would take it to the TMNP office in Westlake Square
  16. I am becoming a bit more discerning about the races that I enter. The Roller Coaster a few weeks ago was only R70, two weeks or so before that was the Cobra which was double the price. I am finding that the one day cycling races are still offering excellent value. Trail running seems to be getting damn expensive, the Two Oceans Trail run cost me R450,00, for a 22 km race, that's pretty pricey.
  17. I am not sure if your rant is serious or just to get a bit of attention. Anyway I love the way that labels are handed out with such carelessness. If you think that you are going to change peoples behaviour by 1) calling them childish names or 2) by confronting them while on the bike, you have a lot to learn about human nature. The people who litter know what they are doing is wrong, they just do it anyway, you are not going to get them to change their minds.
  18. Lets see if the construction on Chappies means a detour over Ou Kaapse. That will make for some grumpy bears. I wouldn't mind too much, It could be fun to try crack a sub 3 over Ou Kaapse
  19. Look at the Cederberg, spots like Algeria, Sandrift etc.. a bit of research and I am sure you can put a cracker trip together
  20. Yes, firmly tongue in cheek. I was out there supporting the boys and girls, they had a corker of a day for once, they often fight the Southeaster. I have a mate who did 1:32 in the half pushing a baby jogger - not a bad result. I think that I will crack out the Marathon next year when I am less focused on the riding.
  21. Lets hope the weather is like it was yesterday, what a peach. Pity it was wasted on a running event.
  22. I have been thinking along the same lines with my old Nokia, it has good battery life, not too heavy and I get the benefit of GPS. My only problem is a bike mount. I think that the Samsung Galaxy could be a good shout, it is far lighter than the iphone and probably a bit more robust. The solution for the battery life is to fit a dynamo to your bike, pass the current through a transformer, you may need an inverter and charge your phone as you ride.
  23. 1 x Coffee in the morning, rooibos tea during the day, whisky or wine in the evenings, occasional smoothy or appletizer
  24. Its bad enough to be kitted out in pro kit, but replica pro kit, no no no!
  25. Wow, I don't know what is worse; a mechanic putting the crank on skew like that, or you not noticing it when you loaded the bike onto / into the car, or when you took it out, our when you put in on the trainer, or when you clipped in, or when you were riding (a few times no less) or when you put the bike away after training.
