  1. Doesn't do it for me, I don't like the sharp angles and the bend in the top tube. Probably not enough clearance for a real rear tyre either. I do like the cable guides though.
  2. tread easy with the puns boys
  3. I wrap my phone in clingwrap before I ride never had a problem with it getting wet, and the touch screen still works through a few layers of clingwrap
  4. I put the 770 on some time ago, very happy with it. Something put me off the 772 but I can't remember what it was, I think that it may have less space to cope with extreme gear combinations (not that anyone should ride cross-chained anyway) . The 770 was super easy to install and set up.
  5. A few chaps just had a little sweat right now after that bombshell. I seem to recall that after those two rugby players failed a drug test and were on USN products, USN made a statement that none of their products had banned substances.
  6. No wonder I got dropped. I hope the Cycletour will adjust my position and issue a new certificate to hang on my wall
  7. Sure PPA has its failings, any organisation has problems. But think about it where can you go online, enter a race in 5 mins, pay as little as R70 bucks, then pitch up, have organised starts, refreshment stations, bike marshals, traffic cops and do this pretty much every weekend. IMO they do a great job. I do plenty of other events, running, trail running, triathlon, adventure racing etc... PPA offers the best consistent service and price.
  8. Word on the street is that CSA wanted to take over PPA. Probably CSA looking for a bit of a cash injection. This could be the reason for the fall out
  9. Parktool website, Sheldon Brown's website. Google anything you want, check some videos on youtube. I started by buying the tools as I went along and something needed doing. I started with some simple stuff like cable changes and brake services, moved onto BB and headset servicing, replacing drivetrains, deraileurs etc... now I pretty much do everything except truing wheels and serving my suspension. My best tip is have a digital camera and take pictures as you go along so you know the order that you stripped things off and how things should look when you build back up. Oh and don't let a toddler help you, no matter how much he begs
  10. I think it was pulled because it clashed with the Peninsula Marathon. Traffic police pulled it due to the problems of running two events in the south peninsula
  11. Nowadays ladies are, believe it or not, regarded as equals. Amazing I know, this only being the 21st century and all and women's rights being very new thing and the fairer sex just starting to shyly venture out of the kitchen and the nursery. I am sure that if the ladies had a problem pulling the group they could have just sat up and waved the men through, I don't think that there are too many guys who could stand the ego blow of being asked to do a little turn at the front
  12. My guess is that he could have headed over the Ocean View hill rather than go around and over the Slangkop climb, That would give you around 5 additional mins and save the legs a bit.
  13. Your friend has finally grown up and moved on from those little training wheels. You should be happy for him and the new opportunities that this change will bring.
  14. B - 6:30. Nice easy sub three group
  15. Hey don't knock the goodie bags, some people really need that supply of chapsticks, shampoo samples and tampons. I normally offload mine to the first homeless chap I see out the door (after eating my mini barone)
  16. 3:16 burger should get you around J - N. Just as a guess
  17. Its got to be flirting with the UCI minimum size ration for that rear triangle, gotta say I don't think its very pretty
  18. It was the most incredible event when I did it. It was more of an adventure when it was still point to point - Knysna to Cape Town. I truly did have the time of my life. It was also pretty affordable back in 2007, I think it only cost R12 500 for a team entry But now it has become more of a racing event, focused rather on times and positions than the MTB riding. I think that it has lost its appeal to the weekend warrior or "recreational rider" I certainly wont do it again at that price and just to do laps around areas where one can do a lot of riding with either one day race entries or on your own. I also think that the pool of "epic" riders is pretty static and once these guys have ticked it off or done 2 or 3 they wont go back for a while.
  19. Not quite true, residents making frequent use get a discount, you also qualify for a discount with a Wild Card.
  20. I have seen the plans of the proposed structure and it is not bad at all. In my opinion it is a lot better than the current set up with six shipping containers stacked two storeys high. What grates me is the process that was followed as well as Table Mountain National Park's willingness to allow what is effectively a commercial building within the National Park. Issue number two is that Robin Carlisle seems to be threatening to remove the day pass system if this doesn't get built. My concern is that if the day pass gets dropped cyclist are going to start getting charged to use the road. I always have the nagging feeling that we are on borrowed time with free entry.
  21. The go ahead for construction of the toll plaza and office building has apparently been given I don't know if this includes building plan approval or just Environmental Approval. They could start within the next couple of months. There seems to be a lot of work to build canopies over the road and widen the road to five lanes through the plaza. Hopefully this doesn't mean a detour
  22. I don't want to be voted in as the spelling police (in case my name also gets thrown into the hat), but for the record its Specialized. With a Z
  23. It makes sense to have moved the long route start to 7, I would rather start later and not have to contend with the slower short route riders on Black Hill and Ou Kaapse Weg. At lease it was a cool day and little wind, but I won't do this ride again unless the start is brought back to an earlier slot.
  24. No matter what PPA group you ride in there are always people who ride dangerously, I have ridden in most groups from J up to A and SV there are in every group a couple of guys who seem hell bent on taking others out. There are just people without the spatial perception & skills to ride safely. There are also people who have no regard for the safety of others and feel that they are justified in riding like idiots just to move up a few positions. Moaning on the Hub wont do anything, complaining to the PPA may get better results, but probably not. The best thing is to wait until after the ride for a "quiet" word or two to the person.
  25. Never jacked but had 7 bikes stolen over the years
