  1. Yeah the evo's are thinner than rice paper, but that said they sell them for chop change, so ive bought a couple on did the houwhoek on them so far, and they were ok, that said, not many rocks to cut the hell out of them, If they pass the eselfontein test ill be suprised.
  2. Total overkill, 160 / 160 is fine for 99% of 26" XC/trail usage, and 180/160 is fine for 99% 29'er XC/trail usage, anything more than that at the back your just going to lock up the whole time. Especially the rear and that has a negative imapct on your riding and destroys trails.
  3. Seems we dont have a lot of traveleres here, hell most countries will give you 500mb data for 10 pounds, or 12 euro or 16 dollah, first thing you do when you get across the border is get a simcard from the country you are in. Anybody who enables any kind of roaming on their phones are looking to get punished.
  4. Crosschain, this is a world wide and continueing epedemic, has nothing to do with the replacement seals they used during the epic. I agree it has the potential to be a great bike, if you put a monarch or RP23 in.
  5. I hope from the posts that this is a laaitjie we are dealing with which gives him a license to act stupid. But yes if you are good enough, you will get approached and for that to happen you have to perform really well in a bunch of major events.
  6. People will always buy something they think they need. hell i even removed my poplock from my handlebars as it was cluttering it up and i saw no use in locking out my shock. But as far as rear shocks go, I now have a custom Rockshox monarch on my chariot and comming off Fox rears, I dont think ill fit a rear fox again soon. The RS is not as plush but it just tracks so much better.
  7. Nope but you dont need to lock out the rp23 like you do the dtswisscheese shock, I tried the scot and after a couple of km's it became clear why scott came up with their ingenious lockout system, becuase you need it. The DTswiss is so bad you end up playing more with the lockout system than you do with your gear levers chagning gears. Do get any sort of decent ride out of the scott your fingers will be very busy the whole day switching between modes. I know someone thats spent 20-30k on a bike doesnt like to admit a part of the bike sucks but that rear shock is just horrible. If they put it the New custom valved monarch you would never need to switch between modes, and if you put in a RP23 you might occasionaly want to lock it out. But if i bought the scott i would have put in a RS monarch immedialty, then it would be a decent bike.
  8. I would put in new pads and let them bed in with the rotors yeah, the old pads would have heat sealed and hardened on the orignial rotors. Then bed them in properly on a clean stretch of road, and leave them to cool down and harden over night.
  9. couple of things come to mind here. 1 the pads would have been bedded in on the sellers rotors, did you get the rotors with the brakes? 2 Yes seems a bleeding is in order? 3 rather get new pads, reset the pistons to neutral and go bed in the brakes from scratch.
  10. Well heres the info carbon frames crack a lot easier than aluminum frames, generally one hit form a rock on your BB will cause damage to most carbon frames espeically if you knock it at speed, Hence why I would never consider a carbon frame unless i use it purely for races. Its not worth the money vs durability. That said, carbon you can fix most of the time aluminium if cracked is useless. The lesson learned here is that yes inspect the goods upon receipt, lesson 2 always insure your bike if it was insured you could have insurance pay you out and that frame you could have insured for 10k +. And lastly if you ride carbon treat it like a eggshell cause thats what it is essentially. especially around the joints and BB.
  11. Any tyre with a dual compound rubber will not last long, but will give you a good ride and good grip. And grip over wear any day. If your concerened about tyre wear get yourself some singlecompound CST tyres they are heavy they suck have no grip but will last you for years. Most decent tyres geax, conti's schwalbes etc are dual or tripple compound. And as long as you use them on trails and gravel you should get decent mileage out of them. If you take them on tarmac well half the life expectency, as they are grippy and will bite into the road and wear quickly. as the saying goes, strong, light , cheap choose two, in the case of rubber its durable grippy cheap choose two
  12. Nope if the buyer picked it up upon receipt and informed the seller then yes, but a month after the fact then nope. Tough loss but hey it could have been a 10k frame, so dropping 2.5k down the toilet is not the worst thing.
  13. What he said.
  14. Weight has gotten to be totally relative as far as im concerned i am use to a 10.2kg 26" dual sus, I now have a 12.8kg 29'er and paid a fortune for it, yes i could have gotten a much lighter 29'er for the same price, hell maybe even as low as 10.5kg-11kg. On my heavier bike, ive never enjoyd riding more, Ive never been a better rider and I am shattering all my old times, and i am unfitter than I have ever been. Sometimes somwhere a bike comes along that just rides the way you want it, gives you what you need and does exactly what you expect it too. In fact the 15k I have waiting around for upgrades have been lying around the bank account now for two months, I just simply dont see the need. The only time the weight penalty will get to me is if i have to do a epic, pioneer where there is a bit of "hike a bike" involved. So no weight is not everything. I use to think it was, Now i realized i could have bought 40 year old whiskey instead of Titanium bolts and various other bits of carbon crap.
  15. Yeah missquote my applogies. I ment that the cube 29 looks just like the sb29'ers
  16. Good reviews just dont expect to have a light bike. its got a heavy frame so will always be on the heavier side.
  17. That looks just like the silverbacks.
  18. I use sealskins socks, waterproof and keeps the feet nice and toastie, and it breaths so when it gets hotter you dont overheat. but if that doesnt work for you the only thing that does is feet in plastic bags, then socks then ride.
  19. Out of those three the Anthem gets the ravest reviews, Scott gets the worst reviews, and If you consider the scott, make sure you have 4k extra too rip out that dtswisscheese at the back and replace it with RS or FOX. Merida, well thats just a girls bike
  20. Leaving anything outside in SA is just stupid, your looking to get it stolen. Sorry to hear but nuff said, as jy dom is ......
  21. My bro went on the atkins diet after, he just stopped loosing weight regardless of diet, he lost 8kg's in 6 weeks and he says he no longer wants to binge after hard excersize.
  22. Lol yeah he has been advised on many occasions to remove the reflectors though he seems to like them.
  23. Cause momsen has a really heavy frame and to get it inline with general market accepted weight they had to put on lighter wheelset.
  24. So they didnt realize that a crapload of poeple paid extra to load their bikes? They didnt have automated systems to warn the booking agents no more excess baggage will be allowed? They didnt take it on a first come first serve basis becuase they dont have the above two facilities. Besides thats bull***t anyway, I weigh 30kg next to the 4.6 chick sitting next to me, how did they counter that, none of the passangers got weighed. This is their problem and they make their ineffeciancy the customers problem. If they take your money to fly your bike they better load the thing.
  25. heres my mates wheelset after going down a jeeptrack this last weekend., I decided against ZTR crests.
