  1. Check out TotalCycling or Comobike to see if the campag wheels comes with the option of Shimano fh bodies (I'm sure they do). Otherwise enquire with J&J Cycling or CWC. Good chance to upgrade to Campag - I'm sure a couple of guys here can help you think of a way to get it past the wife!
  2. Thanks for the advice guys - It will be LG from Joss. You have that in Celeste, J?
  3. I'm sure you've taken a look at Burley's offering? I bought their flatbed trailer which worked an absolute charm. It is a relatively simple design if you're the DIY kind of guy. IMO it works better than carriers panniers from a load distribution p.o.v: I did a trip from Prince Albert over Swartberg pass into Gamkaskloof: about 80% rought gravel roads. I think the max speed I clocked down SBP was something like 60km/h and I had no trouble at all shaving the speed off for corners (something I battled with when carrying the load on the bike itself). Two known disadvantages: 1) The trailer is quite wide, making it cumbersome to use on busy roads without a yellow (urban roads will be a nightmare). If you go for a single wheel design, this will be no problem at all 2) In crowds, the luggage is removed far from your direct control, making it easier for thieves to help themselves. Unless it is strapped down with security mesh. PM for pics & details, maybe I can help...
  4. Plastic bags have no ventilation, causing your feet to sweat in the boot/shoe/bag. It is great to keep the windchill at bay though...
  5. nice shot, the tree one. Pity it makes cycling rather miserable...
  6. Lg? Thought they were in electronics only? They do make some hot plasmas Seriously, where do I get it, what does it cost and how do I ask for it without looking like a chick in a car service shop?
  7. Hmm, more in keep with my current form...The oh-so-attractive-plumber-look slightly adapted (and some would say perfected) to suit the cycling genre. IMO the competition for "best" avatar will be between Sammas & Muddy...
  8. Guys Help!!! I've previously bragged about my European spec Nalini winter gloves, thinking they're too cosy for words and will keep me warm in our mild winter. Nearly lost my fingers to frostbite on Monday morning. Is there anyone out there using a decent set of gloves that can withstand sub zero temps?
  9. That's the one thats hung onto the bootlid of the car, right? Doesn't it damage the car? Is it not worth the expense to go for the proper TB mounted ones (unless you don't have a TB)
  10. Stirring again, Big H? I wondered why the hub was so quite when you where "away" in SA! What Muddy & Zaskar said, but on you question ("could I go to my LBS and rearrange my cluster to easier gears or is it a stock standard thing?") - maybe. The top 4 (?) sprockets are grouped with the bottom ones either paired or loose. I would not upgrade to 10s for the sake of it, but would rather wait until I have to. Unless of course the expense needs to be justified to the GF/Wife, in which case you can pick up the hype off the various websites.
  11. I suppose lots of PM'ing and the like between Chucky & ShaunH has taken place? Is the sponsor price still R590 or is there truly a lower price?
  12. Hallo Chucky. Welcome to The Hub. Please read the entire thread (12 pages) before making unduely provocative comments. At the least be prepared to qualify: "secondly you are been ripped off" [sic] Thanks EB
  13. There-in lies the rub, ja? Products imported through Internet-based distributors are deemed "grey" and are (apparently) violating distributorship agreements. The agents HAVE to wave sticks to protect their turf. Or become more competitive in the face of this new source of competition. IF Marvuli is stopped from distributing locally, so what? TotalCycling, and a whole bunch of other I-based guys will continue to serve the market that is fed-up with paying (perceived or real) over-inflated prices. And Marvuli will find an alternative way of dodging the sticks. The trade-off for the consumer is price vs. warranty: save a couple of rands here but have nowhere to go when something goes wrong. If something goes wrong. The likelyhood of that happening is relatively small & my guess is you'll probably damage the goods through crashing rather than material defects (exceptions do apply, naturally). It might start hitting when insurers refuse to insure/pay out for goods not bought through official channels. But with no incentive for them, I don't think they'll go there soon.EdoardoBianchi2007-05-21 00:39:13
  14. Racman, if it's acknowledgement you crave: get a dog Grieve, Swissvan, you could publish that advice and make money off it!
  15. I know a good lawyer if you need one...
  16. Sammajoor: Welcome to the hub. The legal impact of the sign has been discussed here before. Saliently: 1) It creates awareness. 2) If you get hit by a car on a road with a warning sign, the motorist needs to prove his innocense. Maybe you're dead, maybe he drove off without stopping. Either way, it is better than not having it there and having to fight a legal battle Rethorical question: What have you done to actively promote cycling awareness and safety? Lastly: We do not need to debate the effectiveness of the signs. Either sponsor one or start a new & better initiative. ShaunH - great initiative, thanks for taking action.
  17. I'll post an invite in the rant 'n rave section and see how the guys respond...
  18. We normally do an N4 tollroad from PTA, over Saartjiesnek, straight through Schoemansville, through tunnel. A couple of options in this regard: Left: Over the hill, past Cosmos and left to go over the dam wall. At t-junction left past Pecan Wood and staight with this road either up to Santa Barbara (also a good way to come towards the dam from Jhb North side) or back to the N4 tollroad. Right: Past Mount Amanzi, up to Brits road t-junction, right over Silkaatsnek and either straight (van der hoff) or right at the 1st opportunity. Thinking about it now: How about a sample of this over the weekend? We can arrange to meet somewhere close to the dam and do a couple of options? On the bike of course...Maybe get a couple of hubbers to join us?
  19. Token, do you build these in your garage?
  20. eeek!!! Looks strange. What do they weigh?
  21. Connection, glad you joined a group for a ride. Theoretically it should be safer, but there is the added risk of having a mishap in the bunch, especially with inexperienced guys around... I'm making the move to Jhb in Oct and will be sampling some of these groups. Looking forward to that.
  22. That's great! The shop I chose to splash R50k out on new bike couldn't be bothered to set the gears correctly. Much less call me later to check if I was happy. Luckily its campag and can be set by a monkey like me.
  23. Pop - i - you're funny! It does kind of explain why my 1st couple of years of cycling was so uncomfortable (and lonely)
