  1. Forget about the price and ask: What is it that you want? At this price point you want to buy something that you can continue to throw a leg over. Once you know what that is, hunt down the options. It'll blow your budget, but R10k more on R30k for something you really want is better than R30k on something you kinda want. No, I don't have a bike shop. *wink*
  2. Some interesting reading, given the latest developments in the most chemical race on earth...
  3. Light, sexy, knee and wallet friendly (mostly), near-impossible to pull out untentionally (with ly legs and meagre wattage, that is). Could also cite some other garb of Q-factors, Ti & marketing stuff. IMHO you should not worry about getting into them, but if you can manage to get out of them when you don't want to. Note: Statements made reflect the opinion of the author and cannot necessarily be backed up by fact.
  4. Time.
  5. My bad, didn't realise you had a tough day. You're right, R100 for a time trial is insane. They should pay us to ride it. Better still, there should be naked FHM models at the finish to...whatever.
  6. They have an event to sell - buy it or don't. PS: What is your best 40k time?
  7. Stage 3: It seems like nowadays a good team needs more than just climbers, sprinters and allrounders. If any of these are academically gifted, it'll go a long way in securing a win. A la Paul: "He [Cancellara] will need some rapid mathematicians to work out exactly how hard they will have to work to keep that yellow jersey". Seemed like they couldn't find any at such short notice, hence Cancel's all out effort at the end!
  8. Also try google? Or the following URL: http://www.pursuit-performance.com.au/polar/html/local/faq/faq_usb_not_working.html Keep us posted?
  9. Really? You'll make me go out and buy the mag right away!
  10. The plastic thingy goes along way in protecting the bike from the bike shop's mistakes: With shifting technology where its at, it's unlikely you'll stuff something up by washing/lubing/shifting. Unless you're the incredible hulk (unlikely?), in which case I'd recommend you forget the whole bike thing and get a Hummer.
  11. Polar, dream of fit, analytical types...can't wait to get mine!
  12. ...he askes casually' date=' holding a [what IS that thing?'] between thumb and forefinger
  13. Right, so yesterday Paul/Phil dropped this little gem: "They're approaching another one of those round circles they have here in Belgium..." A beaut! Apparently, at some point the peleton also "started to pedal in anger now..." [thanks Fudge] Anything else I missed?EdoardoBianchi2007-07-10 03:32:43
  14. What Mampara said. Also check that the stop screws (phillips, one each for high and low) are set correctly. They prevent the r-der from going into the spokes (low) or dropping between the highest sprocket and the frame (high). Some trick involved, but for a base setup I normally set the ders to highest combination, centre the r-der under the rear sprocket (using only the stop screw, with no cable tension) and then take up the cable tension with barrel adjustment and/or resetting the cable in the der (not in this order...). Following this, shift one lower and adjust the barrel until the der shifts. Test and make small adjustments until the shift is crisp and makes not rubbing noise on subsequent pedalling/shifting. For the lowest sprocket, just shift to lowest (remember to also go to small blade) and adjust the limit screw to prevent movement beyond what is required to move the chain. Rear done. That should sort out the rear. The front is another story altogether... If this takes you longer than half an hour, visit your LBS...
  15. Aint life a b!tch. Have a Cab on my behalf (and bring back a couple!)
  16. Anyone with an idea of the new price on a set of Easton Circuits? Only heard good things about them...
  17. Still deciding, but I'd prolly use it to boost my seeding for 94.7...
  18. When your bonus is paid and you manage to hide the fact from the wife...
  19. What will the frame be called? Hardtail - no. Softtail - no. JUST TAIL! And the model? "Justtail Timberlake" good to see the initial tests were completed at Dirtopia (very kind of the US of A folks to raise SA to such prominance)EdoardoBianchi2007-07-04 10:55:40
  20. 2005 GT Avalanche 0.5 with Deore/X9 mix, Suntour shock and some other goodies. Size medium (I'm 1.75). I think I paid R6500, will let him go at about R5100.
  21. Yep, great coverage and lots of airtime for TCS and Kakaa. Now that you mention the heli shots: Wow, didn't realise at the time! I had to grin at AM's comment on the ladies spring for stage 3: "[so-and-so] will have the advantage of a better power-to-weight ratio over [whoever-else]". Not quite Phil yet, but getting there!
  22. Damn, I leave the office for a day and my inbox gets spammed with updates from a thread like this... At the risk of "ryging derms uit":
  23. I don't know if pricelists exist, but I would recommend you pick a number of sources and obtain prices on the groups from each manufacturer you are interested in. I'd recommend: Cajees, Westdene, your LBS and at least one online bike store (TotalCycling.com, Marvuli, etc) Two more points: 1) Don't base your decision on price alone. Try to experience each manufacturer's offering by riding a bike equiped with a high-end group 2) If you want to go the Shimano route and is willing to drop a couple of grand (or more), wait for the 2008 product launch before deciding. Seems like exciting stuff coming onto the market in the next few months.
