  1. ok, I'm starting at 06:05 (unless it's a stuff up like last year) I'm in a social team aiming for just under 8.5hrs. So all in all I'm happy with our start allocation. But, last year when I queried our start time I was told that yes people had requested & been given earlier start times. That's cr@p and if it's happened again this year, then it's pretty shoddy organisation. Simple, the faster you are, the later you start. WIth regards teams using each other for assistance, it's up to us to have the balls to ride the event as intended. Therefore no drafting on other teams, it's not rocket science! So to all those that will spend parts of Sat in a bunch with other teams.. sorry for you..
  2. Personally I think it's a respect issue. If you want other road users to respect your right to be there, then respect the rules of the road. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> It's simple, if the light is red, stop. Oh and before we start ranting on how motorists don't respect cyclists, if you want respect, you've gotta earn it first. I'm afraid CycleLab's official spokesperson needs to have a think about his statement. Any club with the sort of exposure that they enjoy should be "man" enough to police their members correctly and to advocate adhering to the rules of the road AT ALL TIMES. Anyway, having to stop at red lights allows you to do a short interval once the light goes green, consider it additional training.
  3. Shaun/Kiwi, please confirm the revenue share on the R30 SMS. My understanding is that of the R30, R15 will go to the network, then the remainder will be shared between the WASP & "client". Would be such a waste if the networks end up getting more than the Sign-up campaign.
  4. Mmm, interesting advice on how to troubleshoot your problem. Looks suspicously familiar, are you sure someone didn't suggest to you how to test it? Looks quite methodical for a pansie
  5. Very clever..
  6. mmm, those bruises are still showing..
  7. Used to go to Klein Brak every year, grandparents stayed there. Decided the one time to ride thru to George & back via N2(about 13yrs ago). Man those hills are never ending on the bike. Lucky for me on the way back just leaving George I slashed my tire & ended up having to phone for a lift home.
  8. Agree with Mud Dee. No point upgrading unless you're getting something much better. Rather ride your RC3000 for slightly longer, save a bit more & then get something really worthwhile.
  9. Yup, spent sunday's ride out around Stellenbosch picking bugs outa my eyes & also at times testing their nutritional value..
  10. That's so weird, I was just looking at those lights yesterday evening on Chainreaction's website.
  11. Just a guess, but sounds like it might be linked to a muscle imbalance (which we all have in varying degrees). Might be worth while seeing someone to give you a program to at least take away that option.lurker2007-10-09 14:25:09
  12. Ok, some of this is a bit technical, but I think they give an idea: http://www.news.uct.ac.za/mondaypaper/archives/?id=6038 http://bjsm.bmj.com/cgi/content/abstract/38/4/488 http://ww.postgradmed.com/issues/1999/11_99/schwellnus.htm From what I've heard/read cyclists are especially prone to cramping due to the fixed position that we operate in. Compare your training to racing, how often while racing do you stretch out of your "power" position? Basically we hold our muscles in a "shortened" position for long periods of time which prevents them ever really releasing from a tensioned position. WHich then tires them out faster etc.. There's more to the old story of "the harder you train, the easier you race" than we often are willing to admit.lurker2007-10-05 03:56:37
  13. Yup, afraid to my knowledge Marius has it spot on. Various studies have been done around cramping in sport. No conclusive evidence that anti-cramping suppliments have anything other than a placebo effort. Bottom line is that your body just isn't used to the sustained race pace & subsequent fixed position that you put it into. Try incorporate some race simulations into your training. I'll try find the reference to some research.
  14. My GF rode her 1st Argus on a mtb with slicks. We then bought her a roadbike for her 2nd Argus and she can't stop raving about how much easier it is to ride on the road now. Road bike is more efficient on the road.. Just make sure you get one with a triple chainring, then she'll have all the gearing she needs on a light, more responsive bike.
  15. Checkout the CapeStorm cranium cooler http://www.capestorm.co.za/products/product_details.jsp?category_id=2937&prodCat=4024&prodDisplay_id=4105 Seems to work well, but I find it a rather tight fit sqeezing into my helmet when wearing it. Think I've just gotta find a better technique for putting my helmet on without shifting the headwear.
  16. Wash it out with some Milton & warm water, will kill any nasties trying to hang around. I also stuff a clean drying-up cloth into the bag to ensure air can get in to dry it.
  17. Let's just say that Methylate on raw wounds stings a little.. You'll feel yourself glowing.. Actually to be honest, blisters don't make you glow much. Chafe in sensitive spots, now that's another story. The 2secs of pain is worth it, fastest fix you'll find.
  18. Methylate is the way to go if you're in a hurry. Run a needle with thread thru it a few times, therefore making a few holes. Then put methylate on the outside, it'll seep in thru the holes. Warning, it might make you glow a bit. Don't cut the blistered skin off as that'll just expose the softer layer under. Repeat Methylate a few times a day. Works 100% for paddlers that are silly enough not to use dubbin/vaseline on their hands in multiday events...
  19. During the whole Detour time, even though Chappies was closed you could still ride it. You just had to lift your bike over the barriers and watch out for the potholes on the Noordehoek side. Actually one of those potholes was about the size of a car & had taken half the road down the mountain. Just think, 30 000 people taking part in the Cape Argus road & cyclocross event in March..
  20. R610 But only if you take off the saddle, otherwise I'm not willing to offer more than R601.50
  21. Size? Age? Components?
  22. I've never had a problem with chafing from my shorts, until I got given a pair of Anatomic bibs just before K2C last year. Not only do/did they chafe me silly, but they went into holes after about 6months. Trust me, it wasn't because of huge mileage. My el cheapo Rapid sports bibs are yet to give me any issues, but am about to give the Cape Storm bibs a go. Looked at the First Ascent ones, but the body length is waaay too short.
  23. I rode a San Marco Rolls from about '93 till I replaced it with a Fizik Arione last year. It didn't look great in the end, had seriously worn the leather on the sides, but it certainly was a comfy ride. If you're struggling to get one, have a look at the Arione, I switched with no discomfort whatsoever.
