    WTF???

    no I don't think so.
  2. Simple reality, Car hard, cyclist soft. No court in the world can give you your life back, and unfortunately you only get one turn. (There is no restart button on life). So, know the "enemy", how does his mind work, how do you get inside his decision making process. How do you stay alive. I doubt only lights will work, it goes about reminding the car driver to "THINK BIKE". I love those stickers. Especially the ones with both the motorcyclist and bicyclist on them.
  3. Just a few weeks ago a friend was robbed of his bike on the kop, so now small groups and pepper spray is necessary for safety. (However once the municipality has finished with the work on the Kop I think things will cool down a bit). There are two routs to consider. The first is on the south side of the kop. If you drive up Johan Rissik from Nelson Mandela, just after the road works you should see the single track on the right hand side. This track takes you to the golf course fence. You then ride along the fence until a jeep track that will take you to the top of the hill just before the town house complexes. (There is a single track that will take you to the road near the radio beacon as well.) The second rout is a jeep track that is on the left side of the road (neer the first routes start). This jeep track is a bit washed out and becomes a single track and half track (all down hill) until it meets the fence near the fountain circle. From there turn right (away from the fountain circle and follow the fence until you get to the gravel covering the water pipes. Follow this gravel "highway" until you are almost at the resevoir, you will see single track on your left. Follow that until you get to the radio beacon (real gnarley climb there). There are also some trails on Wonderboom ridge between Montana and Waverley which need some defining and development
  4. Klapperkop. Just take a friend or two and pepper spray. There is a single track from the bottom to the top, and the area where the water pipes were laid is very rideable.
  5. more like, If you are concentration on a particular thing, your mind blots out everything else. Also you don't see what you are not expecting. so the more focused you are, the more you concentrate the greater the chance that you will miss something really important.
  6. After a bit of websearch ("research" on the web, which is shallow but resolves one's guilt about doing it properly in a library) about something else (ie learners attention spans in relation to report structure, I came accross this snippet of information that explains why motorists are correct when the say "I did not see you" Read and weap: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inattentional_blindness obviously it also explains why you never see steamy sex scenes in boring chic flicks or porn in the cosmo mag (it is not that they not their, it is just that we are not expecting it to be there).
  7. chill, all the fun riders doing Argus are causing the bike shops endless stress with their services ext before the big one. Mechanics at bike shops are about relaxed as nervous cats on hot tin roofs being shot at with sling shots. They don't want to be bothered at the moment.
  8. http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2474271,00.html An eight-year-old girl died when she and two friends were hit by a vehicle while cycling on Sunday at Umzumbe, KwaZulu-Natal, Netcare 911 paramedics said

  10. With Sylvia, one has to ask from which committee, board or bridge has she been suspended from. THe woman is everywhere. Can we pleas get some complete information. Like fill in thye blanks: Slyvia Dale was susspended from her (select post)________________at the (select organisation)___________on (date)_______________for (reason)_______________ and the following actions are to be taken____________________. To compare her with Carl Neihaus at this stage is very premature and unfair.

  14. MAllo, if you read your licence it says: "the holder agrees to abide by the regulations of the UCI and of the National Gederations. He accepts antidoping and blood tests provided by the rules and the sole competence of the CAS. So yes it is done. Secondly, after agreeing to the above, if you are caught doping, you could be sued for FRAUD. Yes your team, and competitor could argue in court, you misrepresented yourself and denied them income, and in some cases injured their good name. (Crimina Injuri). However, the reasons this does not happen, is that team owner ext may/may not be hiding things that may/ may not further embarass them in court if it came out. Also the expenses of a good lawyer far outweigh the cost of a bad name. I agree if someone is under investigation, he should be suspended, for the duration of the investigation. Also if a team manager suspects a rider, he should bar that rider from riding in team colours until the suspicion is investigated. If a rider has served his sentence then he should be allowed to ride again. However, for his first few races his name should be "loaded" for random selection (If they put names in a hat his name should be put in two or three times, in increase the probability of selection) Lastly, riders should be allowed to nominate riders in the peleton for dope testing. So if a rider suspects a team mate or competitor he can put the name forward to the doping authorities. (Sort of democracy where if riders from three diferent teams finger you, you get tested).
  15. Afrikaans should take a leaf out of the book of the English language. The reason that English is one of the most spoken (after manderin) languages in the world, is because it is diverse, flexible and forgiving. For instance, the Nigerian, the Scot and (heaven forbid) the American all speak some form of English. Those that push for purism in either Anfikaans (which is very structure and was very controlled in the past) or English, miss the point. However, again, the French will disagree, and argue (like the FAK in the past) that allowing hybridisation of language will kill the language. Consider however that camoflage (french) Khaki (Indian) Veldt (Dutch/Afrikaans) have all inflitrated into English and many more are finding tehre way in like Whaletail(Australian) Billabong (Australian) and muffintop (Australian) Let the Waterkloof cliche speak their Waterkloof Dnglish/Afrikaans, so that we can all recognise an occasional word or turn of phrase within all their babble.
  16. The big problem with cycling is that it is a TEAM sport with individual rewards. This being so, means that the team captain or favourite can be kept clean, while the rest of the team are creative amateur pharmacists. What the public sees is the clean smile on the podium, and not the dirt that got him there. Furthermore, if a team is focused on winning the GC and not the team competition, then some sacrifices are made in terms of the team mates. Also if the team leader (star) is focused on the win, he can bet very demanding and unpleasant when his underlings start developing ambitions of their own. Although there is only speculation on LA's pharmacutical habits, most of his inner circle, Heras, Hamilton Landis, ext have all been caught out for doping. It seems that LA's magic turns bad if you part company with him.
  17. SRAM, the manufacturer of the powerlink actually encourage you to see the link as a "use once" item. So every time you break the chain you replace the link.
  18. awesome
  19. pencil me in please
  20. running makes the bones and joints strong. It is (after swimming) the most effective cardio exercise. Runners are more humble. Running is cheaper. Who are going at some stage push/ carry/ run with your bike.
  21. after reading all the public washing of laundry here, which was started by Eben in the first place a number of ethical questions arise: 1. Elite cycling is a team sport. So Eben's successes are not his own. He rode with other riders in his team to secure his race results. He may also in a doped state helped his team members get better placings in races. So although "only" he took the dope, the entire team willingly or unwittingly gained advantage from his form. So does this make his team mates and management accomplices to his cheating? How much responsibility should they take for the affair? 2. TCS is a SPONSORED team. Crux's company gets advertising from Eben's successes. (which is a rands and cents issue). So, if it was "obvious" to other riders that Eben "got the chills" why did Crux wait until he was "bust" before acting? (and why was he not ejected from the club in totality?) Why are sponsors willing to claim the victories, but not the failures? 3. Lastly, which is a rather sensitive point all around and is not a simple conceptual ethical issue, why did the team manager of TCS leave the club? Reading between the lines about Eben's behaviour and how it was tolerated by the Club management (despite the team manager being unhappy), is there more to be said on this issue? As I said, these are just some questions this thread raises.
