  1. I am battling to push my hr up as high as I used to. Tried riding up a hill at between 85-90% this weekend and felt like I could barely breathe. In the past I used to do a whole race at that average. My resting hr has come down a bit. Will adjust my max down slightly, thanks.
  2. I started a training program 3 months ago and was very unfit at that stage. Wouldn't the difference then be more significant for someone like me?
  3. How often should you reassess your max hr?
  4. The incident above took place "at the top of the hill/water reservoir opposite Cornwall Hill Estate".
  5. I have just received an email about yet another cyclist who was mugged. I'm not sure of the area but it sounds like it was in the Pierre van Ryneveld/Irene area again. Guy was riding in the veld on his way home after work. It doesn't sound like he was injured. I had a discussion today with friends (all of them Hubbers). They can't understand why I am apprehensive about riding Breedtsnek alone as I did so a few months ago. They feel it is totally safe as there are lots of cyclists who ride that route, including our very own Nancy Drew who often rides it alone. I can't decide whether I'm just being too cautious or not.
  6. I got a coach, started a training program, and went to a dietician. Picked up 3 kgs in 6 weeks Have managed to lose the 3kgs but it hasn't been easy. I have lost some centimeters though. Men do seem to have it easier thanks to having more muscle. Stick at it.
  7. My coach says that you must have at least one rest day per week. I do two hard sessions on the weekend and then I get Monday off to recover. Saturday is a lot harder than Sunday but both days are hard in comparison to my weekday rides. I was told to do about a 45 min easy ride at very low hr the day before a race.
  8. Hey! Mine too! That and U2 - Vertigo Nothing motivates me more to train right now than listening to these two tracks.
  9. I ride solo 99% of the time but only at what I think are safer venues e.g. Groenkloof, Rietvlei Dam, Northern Farm. During the week I avoid the boundary fences of Groenkloof even though it means that the ride is more boring. If it is quiet at Northern Farm then I do the same. I don't ride alone by choice. It is not easy to find someone who is the same pace as me (super slow) but has the same training goals. Paul's idea is worth a try. I'm very keen on finding a training partner.

Did you HAVE to remind me?!?! Sigh....yes...I remember those clearly. I am already psyching myself up for a few of those "little" bumps.

Is that like a little ritual or something? what do you do once it's been propped? Yip, it is. Once it's propped up I stare at it and dream about riding the awesome singletrack and downhills with my buddies again. Can't wait for this year's race.

Was impressed. Very nice touch. Came with a gift tag too which says "Happy Christmas and enjoy your training. See you at Subaru Sani2C 2009. From Farmer Glen and the Subaru Sani2C team." Here's pics of the little mtb. I prop it up against the screen of my notebook each day. The local community was probably involved in making them. The t-shirt is a good fit and nice and soft.
  14. Loon isn't online anymore. He's emigrating in a couple of days time.

  16. Jules, the url doesn't work. [page not found].
  17. We did about 10kms per lap I think. It is VERY flat and non-technical.
  18. Tamboti Game Lodge near Rust de Winter.
  19. Thanks _BBi. Your deduction isn't quite right. The frontsides were much better (they were a good looking bunch ). I've only recently managed to get it right to take photos whilst pedalling and I wasn't confident enough to twist my body around on the bike and snap a shot from the front. It was rather sandy in spots and thought I'd better not chance damaging myself or fellow Hubbers. They only stopped once (to view some game) so I didn't have many photo opportunities.
  20. Nice socks dude!!!! Nice flexibility! Give us some names Mandibles? I'm not very good with Hub names. The flexible sock dude is Mtbking81. The names that I can remember as being present were Zoo Cookie, Mtbking81, Mark Stockton and family, Slick, Great White, TNose, Eldron. Quite a few wives/girlfriends/family members/friends of Hubbers. There was a good ratio of ladies present which makes a pleasant change. I'll try and work through the photos and label them although it might take a day or so as I'll need input from those present. Some of them are spending the night out there camping etc.
