  1. David#7, is this the track? (GPS coordinates bottom left). If yes, do you have any idea what the horizontal lines across the field are?
  2. It is designed to replace LX and Hone. Here's some reviews on it. http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/shimanos-new-slx-groupset-14555 http://bikemag.com/news/freshproduce/shimano_slx_preview/
  3. It's a mountain bike and scratches are inevitable. I wouldn't bother fixing it.
  4. thinking - who me - no' date=' i cant think - i'm 2 bloody stupid but shoot away, whats the diff between full suss an xcountry[/quote'] There's only a difference between AM and XC that I know of. Yikes! Do you actually ride such a setup??
  5. I always thought there was a difference. To me a dual suspension is a "soft tail". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_suspension "The Soft Tail (also Softail) relies on the flexing of the rear triangle and a rear shock or elastomer placed in line with the seat stays. Soft tails are a variation of the original Amp Research Mac-Strut design (technically a 3 bar suspension design). Soft tails have no moving parts, besides the shock/elastomer, making it extremely simple. It maintains pedaling efficiency and power delivery because of the solid chainstays. They tend to be extremely light compared to other rear suspension types. Soft tails are out of favor now because of the limited rear axle travel of these designs - typically around 1 inch. Some examples include the Trek STP Moots YBB."
  6. It is interesting to hear how the racing scene works on that side of the world. That's quite a ride you wrote about on the link! Thanks for sharing it with us Torsten.
  7. It would be interesting to know how much of his annual salary he has just spent on his new bike. If he clears over 50K per month then it isn't that big an expense to him. I'm sure a few of us have spent more than a month or two's earnings on our bikes. I know I'm guilty of that
  8. http://www.iceid.co.za/ I've also had excellent service from them in the past.
  9. D-R, if you're referring to my canoe rack then it is actually a Thule rack that did not really "holdfast" The main bars are Thule and it is only the canoe wedges that are Holdfast. In defence of both companies though, the rack works perfectly on the car it was made for and it is only when we tried to make it fit your bakkie that it didn't work so well. I've had a Holdfast bike rack in the past (hang-on) and now have the Thule Ride-On. Both Thule and Holdfast are good in my opinion. The Ride-On is one of the best cycling purchases I've ever made.

  11. Doesn't it get in the way when you sit back off the saddle for a dropoff? Can you post a pic for us please. The only ones I've seen are two bottle holders that would definitely be in the way when out of the saddle as they are to the side of the saddle and not behind it. My one and only bottle holder is underneath the bottom tube.
  12. Thanks. I'll chat to him about it. I know he used to stock my brand of mtb so he might have an idea of the paint finish etc.
  13. I've been riding dual suspensions for over 5 years now and I've only had a problem on one occasion so I tend to agree with D-R.
  14. I had a look at this bike it looks great and according to what mandible has just said above it should be a good bike any opinions ont his thread and is the R 3800.00 worht the bike and the fact it has been on the site since August ???? isnt that a long time to be for sale especially at this time of year every one get all amped to cycle the spring and summer It was posted today and not in August. Looks like a good bike for adventure racing. Give it a test ride and see if the size is correct.
  15. you do know that i'm biting my tongue here? HR' date=' you won't have a repeat of my bike bracket performance at Crater Cruise again as I now have a fancy bike rack on which my bike can stand. No bracket necessary Mine is designed to be ridden down hills.
  16. If you are going to take part in a few adventure races then I would recommend a hardtail and not a dual suspension unless you do the very long adventure races. It is much easier for your seconders to load a hardtail onto a bike rack than it is to load a dual suspension as a dual requires a fancy bracket to be able to fit onto most racks. For hike-a-bike sections a hardtail is usually much easier to carry. A dual suspension often has a shock positioned under the top bar and you can't carry it comfortably. A hardtail usually weighs less than a dual too. Mandibles2008-09-09 06:18:12
  17. Thanks Tridude. I'm in the process of adding some bling to my mtb and brake levers are on my shopping list.
  18. Roughly what did they cost you?
  19. Chain Reaction Cycles. You can get them for various brake makes including Avids. Price quoted is R749. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Brands.aspx?BrandID=639 The distributor in SA is apparently Rush Sports (www.rushsports.co.za) but I don't know what their price is. If you find out, please let me know.Mandibles2008-09-09 03:19:26
  20. The lettering appears to be a layer on top of the anodizing. Thanks for the help. Will give them a call today.
  21. Thanks Mampara. The frame is anodized Do you know whether lettering can be touched up on an anodized frame? It has started to rub off.
  22. 11-12 April. Looks like it is Easter weekend. Yippee! I'll definitely be down there to watch it.
  23. Does anyone know if Cycleart does paint touch-ups or only full resprays? My bike has some minor scratchmarks that I want removed but I don't want the entire bike resprayed.
  24. Have just had my Hub kit hand-delivered to me. Fits perfectly. Woohoo! Thanks Wolverine. You're a star
  25. My neighbour got an sms an hour ago from her kids in Cape Town to say that their car has just been washed away by the floods.
