  1. Solo ride around the local bike park, kids joined me later for a lap of the orange trail. Was hot out there, but fun, chilled riding.
  2. Have to agree with DJR on the Mondrian theme, it’s classic look. Can do it very subtly though, here’s 2 examples:
  3. Thaba’s trails are riding nicely after the rains! Monday public holiday fun on the bike!
  4. Many options here, all depends on the look you’re going for and budget. The folks at Riverwoods made some really nice units for our basement cellar: https://www.riverwoods.co.za/wine-racks More budget oriented, have a chat with Karl at Shelf Space: https://shelfspace.co.za He will be able to do something similar to this: If you’re not in a hurry, and can wait till the laser shops open up again, I’d build something like this, with laser cut bottle cradles: Here’s a simple wood option, with some subtle led backlighting, could look really nice. As I say, many options, search Pinterest, decide which look you like and what suits your home, and then take it from there.
  5. https://youtu.be/q1uFn9uvP4I Many songs that I thought are original, that are in fact covers...!
  6. Interesting, the coach at https://simonsayscycling.com is also a saffer...
  7. 947 8km with the little guy this morning, didn’t want to do the Children’s Challenge, wanted to ride the big boys race. Was fun to see the parents and youngsters out together on their bikes!
  8. As long as you spare me that thought. I'll also spare you one when I'm breathing in traffic fumes on my commute home this evening...
  9. I do, when I want to get depressed, I head over to that thread. I lived in Holland some years back, and traveled around Spain and France a lot, climbing in the Alps, biking in the Pyrenees, swimming in the Mediterranean. Sometimes, I'm sorry I came back to SA, but hindsight is 20/20. Now that I've put a downer on my day, let me get back to work...
  10. Looking at the last pic I'm thinking there must be some really nice MTB'ing around there. Have always said, if I were to leave SA, Spain would be on the top of my list of places to go, such good memories of my time spent there!
  11. Can I steal this? Applicable to a number of other threads on this here BikeHub. Had a good chuckle, thanks Patch!
  12. To Thaba, haven’t been there in a long time, the boys joined me later for an Orange loop. Lekker riding.
  13. Little spin around Thaba with the boys.
  14. An example of a “decent, well maintained bike out there”, friend of mine is selling a Suzuki 150 Gixxer, bought it for his son 2 years ago, then realized that the kids today don’t have the same road sense we had as they don’t ride bikes in the streets as we did. It hasn’t done 1000km’s yet, not even run in.
  15. I haven’t ridden with squish and gears in a long time, been on a rigid steel SS for years now, had the biggest smile on my face after bombing down a section of single track that I usually have to be quite careful on. And it’s not too bad on the uphill bits either.
  16. My “new to me” bike. It’s been standing in a friends garage, after he bought it and rode it once, and decided cycling is not for him. He’s clearing out, so I got a brilliant deal. Obligatory couch shot. First ride.
  17. It’s too black, going to need to add a bit of color!
  18. I saw them at Sylvia’s Market last weekend, the bikes are very cool and it looked like they were having a blast.
  19. Gravel Grinding with Flippa, still cold this morning, -2 degrees where we crossed the river!
  20. Saw that orange BMC in the LBS last week, nice bike Peds!
  21. Not so much where, rather than when. Been doing these short, late night rides around the neighborhood due to work and other commitments, nice and quiet on the roads, lekker time to be alone with my thoughts!
  22. Finally finished my build, was done primarily as a commuter bike. 26er Giant XTC frame, Lynskey steel fork, 29er wheels with 35c tyres, 9 speed Dura Ace STI’s with 9 speed XT derailleur (shifting is smooth as butter), Tektro mechanical disk calipers and flared bars from Rapide. Frame had to be filed out a little to create clearance for the wheel, may still need to take a little out: Have had a few short rides around the neighborhood, and down some gravel track, it rides very nicely. Thanks to all the hubbers (you know who you are) who helped with bits and bobs, some beers/coffee/cash still needs to change hands!
  23. The greater Johannesburg area is basically built on a termite colony, so treatment is critical. Your preparation, and how you plant the poles is also very important. See the below diagram from the SAWPA (South Africa Wood Preservers Association) website: For the planted poles, they need to be H4, and if you cut them, the cut end should not be planted, i.e. plant the treated end, but also retreat the cut end with a suitable treatment (e.g. Waxsol F). Once the jungle gym is done, you can treat it with a suitable oil. When working with CCA treated timber, especially when cutting, wear the appropriate protection (dust mask), and do not burn the off cuts. To buy treated poles and wood, Noag se Mark in Kempton, or Mint Road Saw Mills in Alrode. See the diagram on guidelines for planting the poles, essentially you want to prevent water from damming up around the base of the pole, which causes rotting. If you follow the guidelines, the lighties will outgrow the Jungle Gym before it falls apart...
  24. Made some dice...
