  1. Spent some time this past weekend laminating and sanding this slab of wood for a desk top for my brother. Whilst sanding, it made me think about Tumbles and his wooden surfboard project, and his relationship with his brother. Still miss that bugger around here!
  2. Not sure if this belongs here or in the Musicians thread, and it’s not a cover per se, but I found this rendition of a Queen song quite hypnotizing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lua5DJXgOxY&feature=share
  3. Dischem and your local nursery...! Two syringes, some plastic hose and an irrigation system screw in nipple. Probably less than 20 bucks and you’re sorted.
  4. I assume it was done 1 layer at a time and then glued together? Kind of the reverse of this passive speaker I made?
  5. As Rocket Boy said, could probably do it with an X-Carve - https://www.inventables.com/technologies/x-carve - the router part can be used for normal router work too, so it’s an investment in tools [emoji849] I’ve been wanting one for ages, but spent my tool money in a CNC laser engraver, so will have to save for a while first.
  6. Look what the virus dragged in! How you doing TNT1? Been a long time since you’ve posted here, welcome back!
  7. Not “real” woodwork, I made a passive speaker for my cellphone using 3mm MDF, laminated 30 pieces together.
  8. Little bit of lemon juice on the rim of the tot glass, then dip in salt. Pour in Cactus Jack, some black pepper, and a dash of Tabasco... Oysters!
  9. I have a similar light to your Marvel Pro on my bars, and then use the Ryder 900 strapped to my helmet. The combination works well, the Ryder gives a fairly even spread, wide beam, that helps with peripheral vision, the light on the bars then lights up the path ahead. On its own, I'm not sure I'd be too confident to tackle anything technical, though for riding dirt roads at night, it is fine.
  10. I once rode the 94.7 MTB on a new bike, big blade, click, click, click, middle and small ring, all was quiet, so rode the entire thing on the middle blade. Turned out that when on the big ring, the cable for the front derailleur protruded enough to touch the inside of the crank arm on every revolution. Tucked it away, and all was good...
  11. Don't think this world has been sane for a very long time!
  12. Needed to bleed my Shimano XT brakes on both my bikes, looked online for a bleed kit, pricing about R280 for the kit. Made my own with 2 syringes, some aquarium hose and an irrigation hose fitting. The small fitting for sprinkler systems, with a thread on one side and hose nipple on the other screws into the bleeding port on the XT levers. I cut it a little shorter, and put a small O-ring onto it. Total cost, about R15.
  13. I few times I’ve made up a shopping cart on their website (www.fasthouse.co.za), but am a bit worried about sizing. Had a look at their shirts in Mellow Velo at Broadacres, sizing seems a bit small, so need to get back there to try it on first! The kit looks very nice!
  14. Been clearing out the garage, have a few bits and pieces that may be of interest to someone on this thread. PM me if interested: Weinmann brake levers, no hoods Shimano center pull calipers Zeus Pista chain rings in 48, 49 and 51 Sugino 42 tooth chainring
  15. Sorry River Rat, your thread has had a semi hijack talking about water quality of the various waterways! Suppose it is relevant, but not in the spirit of your thread [emoji15]
  16. Seems like Baynesspruit is to be avoided...! There’s a small river at Big Red Barn, the water has a dark grey color and smells like dirty washing water, would be interested to know what the counts are there.
  17. Cool, thanks. We have a little place at Vaal Marina (Misty Bay), think it could be nice to ride there, sleep over and ride back the following day!
  18. Could you share details of this route? Often thought about riding from Brackenhurst to Vaal Marina.
  19. The weir is further upstream, close to the Rand Water Board where the Fast One cycle race starts from (near to Sundowner Ranch/Zeemans MX track).
  20. I check that report regularly, and must say, I don’t trust the numbers. The counts are all over the place. Having said that, I wouldn’t want to fall in while scooping a sample at point 9. Point 3 is on the Klipriver, also high counts. There is a weir further upstream where we cross on one of our cycling routes, it looks like a bubble bath some days, not sure what causes the foam.
  21. Gelmar sell legs, in a variety of styles.
  22. Our company has a lodge at Mokaikai, twice this holiday, the Ellie’s have come to visit. Our MD has been in the pool before when they’ve come, the elephant splashed him with his trunk, so he splashed back, they played like that for a while, splashing each other!
  23. Looks like something Le Turbo would be able to sort, come to think of it though, haven’t seen any posts from him in a long time!
