  1. First the TLC. Want to restore it nicely for my boy when he is tall enough. Weighs a ton though. I still remember the day my mom bought it for me. Can't recall many better memories than that one. I raced that bike with Permatubes. Didn't know better till only years later.
  2. That is very nice! I have my fist proper BMX still in my garage. Needs a bit of TLC. Around a 1984/5 model. The welding is still the best I ever saw.

If those KCNC ones don't break, they are tops! Just replaced my previous set after 2 years on the mtb. The plastic ones (don't know about the SRAM ones) hardly lasts 6 months.
  4. Afrikaans, but not sure I would following a forum called "DieMiddelpunt SA"
  5. We have many cyclist on the dark side. In fact most of them are lurking right here on the hub
  6. Small "something fibre, super absorbent, quick drying" towel, Tripod type mini foldable chair makes life a lot easier. Plastic bags for shoes. If it rains, you don't want them in the tent.
  7. Entries on www.cycleevents.co.za Me and the wife will be there. First race we will both do in almost 3 years! Great route.
  8. You have a left and right groin area? There is your problem right there! Edit...Are you female?
  9. Wait till next week
  10. Very interesting read. I also worked a bit underground and could not believe what the guys could tolerate. The sooner I got out of there, the better.
  11. About being used to heat; I hear what you say, but my current office often reaches 34deg (temporary office, but been in it for months now). I get home totally drained and fatiqued every afternoon and I do not get used to it. It is 32 deg now as I sit here and there is not a drop of sweat anywhere on my body, not even under the clothes. Apart from sweat evaporating cooling you down, it is also a mechanism to get rid of excessive heat i.e. unwanted heat exiting the body. That is the part no Camelbak can help with and the part that worries me most.
  12. Sweating is your body’s way of cooling itself off. Some people are not able to sweat normally because their sweat glands are no longer functioning properly. This condition is known as hypohidrosis or anhidrosis. It can affect a person’s entire body, a single area, or scattered areas. The inability to sweat normally can cause overheating, which can lead to heat stroke—a potentially fatal condition. More here: http://www.healthline.com/health/sweating-absent
  13. Thanks guys. I just Googled "hypohidrosis" or "anhidrosis". Scary, especially since I recall I did use to sweat buckets while still in High School.
  14. Perhaps some of you can relate to this and offer some advise. I have realized that I perform very poorly at races or rides where it is very hot and/or humid, sometimes to the point of going into a grinding halt with zero energy or drive and often also cramping despite proper hydration. The opposite is true for very cold races. I also realized that I sweat only a fraction compared to my buddies who would not have a problem with the heat, but would get colder faster than me. To me it is now clear that your ability to sweat effectively has a direct effect on controlling/regulating your body/core temperature, not to mention the inability or poor ability to get rid of waste product through sweating and thus putting more strain on kidneys etc. Perhaps even affecting inbalanced acid levels, etc. I also suffer from eczema and this flares up dramatically when it is very hot, making me think it also relates to my body's inability to control heat. Your thoughts please.

  16. Most charitable shop (of any kind) I ever came across. They donated some bikes to our local orphanage too.
  17. Hi Eldron, love your work. Now that is a road bike (or closest to one) I would ride! (everyday)
  18. After one Mabalingwe Lion Man, the cops in Bela-Bela only pulled off cars with bike racks. They had a field day at R500/pop. You should see their faces when they pulled me over and the plate was on, while numerous R500 pops flew past. I made some conversation, asked for directions, took a looong time to take my license out, etc.
  19. Brave man and glad you got your ride back man!
  20. In all likelyhood, this will be the most fun event/weekend as a mtber this year...and I won't be able to be there! COL (cry out loud)

  22. Hi CMK. PM me your postal address, your wife won 3rd in 62km open category. Well done!
  23. The results per category should be up shortly. Sorry about the ad thing ivr32, you do realise the timekeepers are a paid service provider for the race and that we are not RaceTime?
