Was the start area all set up, medics etc and ready to go if the event was approved? Normally a clear sign if this wasn't in place, that it was never going to happen
  2. And in the cape they were advocating pk's to be handed out for locking a back wheel up on the berms.... I can only surmise (hearing one side of the event) that the other chap took offense to the verbal dialogue as an insult, then during the next confrontation the extended hand was assumed to be a threat/provocation and the rest we know. Sadly, the only way to go about it is via the SAPS. Social media can only help to find him. And then? You'll have to be on top of your legal game once you do identify the person as stringing him up on the town centre guillotine will not get any results and might back fire on you - ie: caution how you flush the person out on social media
  3. Sportsmans, but rosebank is on the way to the orifice so we'll stop past there
  4. Is Garmin HQ still in rosebank? We have a 530 that's 10 months old and the battery has died. Not really keen on going via the retailer (extra time wasted), are we able to still go direct to them? Merci
  5. Put some brasso onto a cloth and gently rub them out - wax on, wax off style
  6. I'd hazard a guess that the 2023 model is aimed more at trail riding (down hill single track stuff) and the 2022 is for the flatter outrides on normal dirt roads The 120mm and riser bars will give you a feeling of riding uphill all the time, but might add a softer feel to the ride.
  7. Have you seen the width on those joints? They'll swallow your 2.4's with ease. As Ouzo says, hopefully they'll have learnt this year round But you're right. A 29" will roll easily enough over tech stuff in front of it 😉
  8. Predominant winds should be a tail all the way from the race track home - helped a lot up Jan smuts last year I'd be more concerned over the expansion joints on the double decker highway when you get back onto it, as you exit the city on the way home (carr street)
  9. As LTR said, don't wire it into the house circuit. Rather move the alarm plug, wifi box, fibre box, tv and a lamp etc into one room and use an extension plug to power these items It won't be a problem to wire it into the house, but it's beyond its design spec and could fail. Keep it mobile as it's intended
  10. I think he flies under the radar too well. Most people can't afford a lengthy search for him via a private firm, and our locals feds are just plain useless. Win for him, sadly
  11. Road ride? There's 3 The road behind Bryanston country club, then from Randburg to Hyde Park up Jan smuts, then Rosebank to Empire/M1 going up past the zoo still on Jan Smuts Thats about it really
  12. The benefits of a dropper far outweigh (excuse the pun) minimal weight gain. I prefer a manual lock out for the suspensions (keeping the cockpit clear of clutter), this leaves plenty space for a dropper remote - which you'll use 20 times a ride on single tracks. Remote lock outs... maybe 3 times. Bikes become a new animal with a dropper. I'm old (sic) school and wasn't convince either until I installed one Besides, the weight gain is easily compensated by a beer or three less Sorry for the drift OP
  13. I switched to Enduro bottles. Havent lost one since on a variety of cages
  14. Theo, I'll send you one in a few min
  15. Someone convinced the roadie world to route their hydraulic cables internally through the stems and head sets... look how that turned out for the service guys. Wonder how the service would work here? Or I'd imagine the fork is proprietary which locks you in for the beeeg mullah as you go on in life. Designers won't design stuff that is free of parts or maintenance intervals otherwise there's no longevity going forward
  16. Us knobbly riders will keep you honest in J 😉 Bummer they're not keeping the query line open, but I guess with so many queries there's only so much you can do before keeping the head in the sand. You might be lucky if they have a query/info desk open when you collect your race pack. If they do, I'd suggest trying to be one of the first on collection day

  18. 1: Use 2 sets of lights. A wide beam for the bars, and a narrow bean attached to your lid. I use a lezyne xl1000 for the wide, and one of those marvel jobs with the spare battery pack for the narrow beam 2: Dont over complicate lubing the chain, just make sure it is lubed. 3: Elbow grease and a small soft brush. I also use a high pressure cleaner when I'm too lazy 4: Clean Green. I mix it around 10:1 ratio with normal water and use a foaming squirt bottle to apply it to the bikes 5: Again, dont over complicate it, as long as you have a decent floor pump and a basic set of tools (allen keys) in the garage you'll be fine. On the bike, you'll need whatever you want to carry. Sometimes less is more but at worst carry a bomb, allen key tool, tyre plugs and spare chain lube
  19. In fishing, 90% of the fishing tackle is designed to catch the fisherman. I know, I'm a sucker But speaking of being re-calibrated, whats that locking safety wire doing on the test unit? Is that to prevent setting changes while riding? Those frames look like secret test beds too, no paint, new styled front end to receive cables into the frame etc... Nice!
  20. This thread just wouldn't be complete without...
  21. Hi folks, Anyone have a spare or old 32t or 34t 96bcd narrow wide chain ring lying around that they dont want? Willing to part with beer coupons for the chain ring
  22. Hahahaa - maybe the organizers are sending the new info to your better halves for a reason.... that way you cant talk sh!t to her by saying you started late and therefore finished late - all to stop you having more beers with your mates after the race
