  1. ???? Ndiyabulela. I think our approach should follow a consideration of impact wrt least potential for both personal and environmental harm. Right of way should favour pedestrians, then cyclists, buses and taxis (for efficient bulk transport considerations), cars, and then trucks. Evoques, M6's and G-series last… ???? In my region minibus taxis are far less aggressive than I’ve found is the case in Gauteng and Limpopo and even worse in KwaZumaNatal. In E Cape and W Cape they’re much less aggressive. At any rate, after pedestrians and cyclists I happily accede to taxis pulling into traffic as they often do to me. Less aggression/more patience all around is the answer imo.
  2. That’s nuts, right!? Cue Jack Nicholson voice: “Why can’t we just all get along?” But seriously, as a cyclist I don’t impede any other road users and as a driver I decided at least a decade ago to drive defensively and to never be impatient in any traffic no matter what anyone else did. I chose to NEVER get angry or even irritated in the least, it is a choice after all. (Full disclosure: Physically I’m a bigass 57 year old in great shape who hasn’t yet been bettered when attacked or while physically defending friends and loved ones, even during a violent home invasion). Getting pissed off achieves zero. Traffic life has been completely chilled for me since that decision, a breeze.
  3. Does this count as a ridiculous extreme? Wouldn’t mind seeing that, but it'll need a rider on each side of the crank. Could be fun.
  4. A bit like a sore dick, right? You just can’t beat it.
  5. That’s a trope-load of visual affectation. Thanks for the laughs mate.
  6. I’ve long followed and admired your adventures Mr Copperhead. Much respect, I thoroughly enjoyed your updates bruh. I’ve spent just a few nights bikepacking in secluded areas and my fave was camping in the snow on a clear and calm full moon night on the Swartberg Pass peak. I’ll forever treasure that spectacular night and felt safe simply ‘cos I didn’t expect anyone else up there in that weather. My question is about keeping one’s bike safe on a weeks or months long adventure that I’m planning. I’d want my bike inside the tent for both condensation and theft considerations. How did you negotiate bike and personal safety?
  7. Condolences to family and friends and fellow cyclists who were involved. After having worked in EMS this still touches me, don’t have to imagine being in that carnage. Overtaking on blind rises happens far too often on many KZN and E Cape roads, am even more cautious on those roads than usual. RIP.
  8. A load of thought went into this pose. Thanks. What were you thinking?
  9. I dream of such even while this noob old git enjoys the thrill of slinging an old ‘dale HT down high-gradient valley and coastal paths and through rock gardens. I’ve got away with just a few scars. That’s some downright wizardry right there, teach me. It’s a dank reference, but that's the one St Vitus Dance I’d love to do. Nah really, I want one.
  10. Major respect to Shanne Braspennincx for winning the keirin several years after suffering a heart attack.
  11. That makes me want to get back on a track, even the concrete track that was the only one available in our teens and twenties. Weird oversight that those wings rotate backwards.
  12. Ganna and co power from behind on final lap to win!? That was nuts.
  13. Sheesh, sounds like all y’all live in aggrocuckootrafficville while I’m in Sleepy Hollow. Dropping the kids off was a cinch and even peak hour traffic working at corporates in different parts of the metro each week was a breeze. Or is being weirdly chilled in traffic an undiscovered superpower? We don’t get any beef while cycling either, maybe all y’all should move to Sleepy Hollow. Er wait, take six mellow yellows first... ????????
  14. My LBS that, always excellent service.
  15. If you happen to consider Dexter-morgan’s suggestion of a friendly donation, my long-term occasional gardener Vuyani would be over the moon in gratitude to you. He frequently assists in his community, also running a regular small volunteer litter cleanup initiative in his area. I’ve helped him a bit through his challenging lockdown and would also complete the build for him and help to maintain it properly.
  16. Absolutely love those tall menere. On our weekly nighttime anti-poaching patrols, after passing through the wild cat sections, I preferred being on the back of an open bakkie as the rhino and giraffe would often approach us up close. That stopped after we heard that the doccie filmmaker Carlos Carvalho, who socialised with us a few times, was struck to death by a giraffe. Carlos landed more than four metres away from his camera tripod.
  17. Guess I’ve been fortunate. I’ve received all-sorts of items from Asia and Europe and the USA without SAPO (or courier) issues, including a couple of watch purchases. Three large boxes from a Johannesburg supplier however ended up in three different cities, thanks DHL.
  18. Eh??? A few minutes ago on Aliexpress. $50 200.14 shipping for up to 60 day delivery?
  19. It's not complicated, federation management and support staff should do EVERYTHING it takes to optimise performance. DO YOUR JOBS! I can't imagine allowing oversights (add tardiness) and incompetence and excuses in business endeavours, I'd have lost large numbers of clients.
  20. Thank you. Whether lecturing at varsities or facilitating corporate training, for MANY years I've found that I'm simply unable to say that I love watching pro volleyball without an assuming male chirping "beach volleyball" to sniggers from half of the males in class. E-V-E-R-Y T-I-M-E. School-leaving kids are still doing this, FFS! Evolve already.
  21. How many mechs are in the federation's team? With events and training in several cycling disciplines occurring simultaneously it may be advised to have a mech present for each discipline. I know I'd do this if I was organising. If we're operating on a limited budget, a mech for each discipline is still essential in my (admittedly inexperienced) opinion.
  22. "What's that in the crosshairs?" A hairy @rse?
  23. In off-the-wall Olympic news, a two time Olympic kayaking silver medallist has been jailed for 25 years.
