  1. ironically /ʌɪˈrɒnɪkli/ adverb used in reference to a paradoxical or unexpected situation. You’re welcome.
  2. This is all that remains of the Verwoerd name as far as public facilities are concerned, it’s officially called the Betsie Verwoerd Pompstasie.
  3. I privately betted on Spain winning the final, the single occasion I’ve betted on anything at all. Friends and acquaintances were amazed that the notorious gangster-dealer who socialised with us at my mate's bar honoured his bet with me. England? They always seem to hype their tournament hopes on an individual. Beckham. Rooney. Kane. Fail. Thank goodness that England lost or we’d never hear the end of it. Spain is on my bucket list, would luuurve to spend time exploring it, Sagrada Familia first.
  4. Amazing time watching that initial match at my mate’s bar (always filled with locals and international visitors) and six matches live. Best of all was having my teen kids from Cape Town with me for six weeks and at matches with me. Remarkably slick organisation as from the time of parking at bus transport hubs to being seated in stadium never took more than 25 minutes. SA is able to do things with excellence if we bother to try.
  5. Robyn de Groot and Ariane Lüthi win both the fifth stage and the entire Swiss Epic. Major congrats! https://swiss-epic.com/2021/08/21/goldwurst-power-infinity-and-gabriel-technologie-wrap-up-swiss-epic-titles-in-style/
  6. Harry Hill said he a few days ago called Sean Lock and asked “I hear you’re in hospice for a bit of a rest, what’s it like?” Legend that he is Lock replied “It’s okay… and the sex is amazing!"
  7. Fast as well from the US in my experience, even while paying the lowest shipping option. Twice items arrived here in PE three days after purchase and on three occasions the parcel arrived on the fourth day.
  8. I very well remember each of those and was lucky enough to be gifted with a Raleigh Chopper and that foot scooter in the same colours. https://hansonsauctioneers.co.uk/unridden-raleigh-chopper-from-1970s-smashes-its-estimate-at-auction/
  9. 100%. ‘Dale's amazing images consistently exceed any pics that I’ve seen in any global cycling publisher. Just saying.
  10. Too true OP. I’m looking at a long-term scar from riding without gloves, a long and deep palm tear as I sped into the work car park too fast for me or my boss to avoid being struck. Luckily he was driving a poxy work bakkie. Gloves and well-fitting well-fastened helmet mostdef.
  11. Not to mention autonomous vehicles. Three of my corporate clients are automotive manufacturers and a former housemate who is now an engineering director of one of those yesterday said that driverless vehicles will never predominate. He predicted that the most advanced countries wrt auto engineering won’t go beyond devoting a single lane on major routes, but just temporarily.

    MotoGP

S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G race!!! One of the most exciting and action-filled MotoGP races imo. And at my fave track. “I’VE NEVER SEEN A RACE LIKE THIS IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!” says the Sky guy. Brilliant Bradical Binder!

  15. Ditto. Aside from the wild boar and buck we occasionally hunted for food, goat was savoured as well. My grandparents rented and farmed a small portion of the farm Amanzi outside Uitenhage, where Sir Percy Fitzpatrick wrote Jock of the Bushveld. On the few times that we visited the Niven's main house I was always drawn to the chair and desk at which he wrote, sometimes under the trees out front of the house. Your post brought back amazing childhood memories from half a century ago.
  16. Defensive much? It’s a public interest story after all with deaths and thirteen people injured as a result of poor choices. The piece is in fact well informative for those, like me, who know little about e-bikes and e-scooters.
  17. Sir Bradley Wiggins this week looking like he’s in need of a few more TUE’s...
  18. Question asked to gain your insights. The FDNY reports that there have been 55 e-bike and scooter battery fires in NY city this year. Has any bikehub user experienced this/know someone who's experienced this? What was the cause? https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/ny-e-bike-scooter-fires-fatalities-fdny-20210813-otyebxidsne2vltv446y4ir62u-story.html PS. Earlier this year a home around the corner from me was entirely destroyed by fire as a result of a cellphone charging incident at night. A few years ago I had to keep the stepdaughter’s phone at night ‘cos she’d fall asleep with it on charge. Edit: Specifically as she was using a non-OEM charger.
  19. ’s like the old timer on a course I was facilitating at the-then SA Breweries. Noticing that I was a bit frustrated at peeps returning late from tea for the second time, he leaned forward with a smile and pointed at his wrist with a “You may have the watches, but we have the time...”
  20. Being entirely unqualified to offer any informed opinion wrt weeks-long (or ANY ) adventure or ARWS race, Samuli Makinen’s light and tight bike and kit setup would be this virgin’s approach. I’ve always favoured travelling light, whether I’m roughing it or not. Too light on fluids though? Look forward to all y’all's insights.
  21. I’m not much inclined to take pics but this old git felt like a naughty kid swanning about in the early teen °C temp and constant rain for a coupla hours.
