  1. They have fixed up the Old Malmesbury Road (North of Philadelphia) so beautifully.
  2. Hey, Braai Day is just around the corner
  3. I fully expect the Cycle tour medics to keep records and perhaps even a follow up study to see how an event of this size influences the trajectory of the pandemic in Cape Town. We have to start somewhere and it makes sense that the academics use it as an opportunity to study what happens when we open it up for an outdoor event like this. Interesting times.
  4. But, ........ the CTCT isn't "strenuous exercise" .......... it's just a relaxed fun ride and totally flat ......... isn't it?????
  5. Starting chutes will stretch from the Parade all the way back to the finish line in Green Point? ????????
  6. This is going to be my year to prove that I can ride it with no training........????
  7. Lovely picture too Duane For what it's worth, short attention span is an issue with any bright young puppy. All you need to do is to keep your training sessions short and not too repetitive. Throw in variation and the odd surprise. If you try push it and make it too long too soon, then boredom becomes a problem ...... and that is much more difficult to fix. You want to always keep them interested and excited. Attention span will lengthen naturally as they mature. When? Some breeds sooner, others later. In Labradors (my experience) that only happens around 2 years of age, but in others as early as 18 months..
  8. Just put bikes on the roof................I've used EVERY other permutation, and on the roof is where they are by far the least likely to get damaged by mud, dust stones, hot exhaust etc, especially if you are adventurous and likely to drive bad roads. People are so worried they will drive into a parking garage with bikes on the roof, but that is such an unlikely thing if you have your brain engaged.
  9. The kind of ride that justifies that BIG shower you built so that you can get your bike in there at the same time.......????
  10. Some Afrikaans writer, I forget who, said that Meiringspoort is the only thing from his childhood that turned out bigger and more impressive when he visited it again as an adult. Everything else looked smaller and more insignificant............but not Meiringspoort. He was right! (On an aside, I once flew through the Poort in a small plane. The madman pilot used it as a gateway to get through the mountains when the cloud cover was too high to get over. The most amazing roller coaster ride, but I'll never do it now that I understand the risk a bit better. Back then I wasn't even scared, just thought it was fun.)
  11. It's OK after dark, let's say from 11pm to 5 am.????
  12. I am so jealous. I was there in July, but did not take a bike along........had other activities that took up the little time we had available. The young Ds did make time to do some bouldering in the Prince Albert side entrance though.
  13. Guy by the name of Robert Ruark said "Use Enough Gun".........I think that goes for bikes too! No use being under-biked!
  14. One of my fellow students, many moons ago, when clip-on microphones first came out, played a lovely prank on one of the older, less tech-savvy lecturers. He hijacked the sound control room and as soon as the lecturer clipped the mike onto his lapel, he started playing a recorded heartbeat, Just loud enough to drown out whatever the guy said, He then moved the the mike to his tie.......but the heartbeat came back the moment he let the clip go. After a few attempts to hold it in his hand, he gave up when it became obvious that as soon as he held it close enough to pick up his voice, the heartbeat also returned. He ripped the thing off and turned his own volume up to fill the 200 seat auditorium............but by then the crowd was falling off their chairs and rolling in the aisles and he realized that something was amiss! The culprit was never caught and nobody spilt the beans. Lovely clean fun.
  15. She's dressed to kill!
  16. Where you can have all four seasons and a bit of odd weather thrown in all on the same day????
  17. Ha ha, yes, just show you, I still have a young mind in a not-so-young body. I cannot quite think of doing the electric doping thing...........but one day when I'm old..............????
  18. What makes old railway lines so good for bike touring is the fact that the inclines are very gentle. Trains cannot climb steep gradients, so theline always follow the gentlest climb possible, which make it much easier to cycle up, even for non-hardened riders. And that widens the field and make it accessible to many more people.
  19. The COOLEST idea. and yes I want to do it
  20. Unimog, if the Hubbers' practicality levels in what they ride is anything to go by. Actually, sommer get a Defender, a Fortuner and a little Jimny too! So what if the parking is a nightmare at your local Spar? Just do it!????
  21. Very cool collection - a "history" of your cycling, all the way from a push scooter to a big boy bike. COOL!
  22. Big timeBUNNY HOP ????
  23. If they do cancel it, I suppose then it will be another "get out of jail because of being unfit" card for me.........but I am still hoping............despite knowing that I will suffer badly if it goes ahead.
  24. A South African connection perhaps with the kitted out Landy? The two rooftop tents are Easy Awn tents, made here in SA if I see right.
  25. EXACTLY????
