  1. STUNNING Jbr ????
  2. Agreed. As much as I am frustrated with SANPARKS on so many things, abusing its staff and especially getting physical with them, is just 100% wrong. Someone on here will know who the culprits are. I challenge you as a fellow cyclist, as a fellow human being, as someone who knows right from wrong, to supply the names of those responsible to SANParks and the police. It is the right thing to do! Do it! If you know and don't, YOU will be part of the problem, you will be complicit in the abuse of a woman ranger. Even if it is someone you know. Catch the culprits, make an example of them. Show that they are NOT part of our cycling tribe! Do it today!
  3. I agree, this is just vandalism, not trail building or fixing. Find the idiot and make him fix potholes in the streets.
  4. Appropriate to find it on the snake trails????
  5. Fellow Hubbers, take note - 130km round trip for a cup of good coffee - we have an addict in our midst - just not sure if he is addicted to riding or to coffee or both????????

    RIFLE

At least a decades worth of court cases and more chaos that they already have.
  7. Most definitely. ???? I knew I had to up my game, but I didn't want to do the style Dale uses. I've just always loved silhouettes, shadows and reflections. Beattbox thought I was a little crazy to suddenly gooi anchors and turn around to stop at a puddle in the parking lot next to the road, but I could "see" the picture when we flashed past. Your own pictures have been stunning lately. ????
  8. I know, and to make it worse, I was riding with my paddling buddie. There were lost of paddlers out there. Not so many surfers though, because Muizenberg was BIG. And most were too chicken I suppose.
  9. Down (as it turns out, it is up and down) to Cape Point with Beattbox. Stunning day to ride, False Bay like a mirror, clear views all the way past Hangklip, very few cars and people in the Cape Point reserve. Only thing that could have been better was my fitness!
  10. I cannot quite tell you why, but I find that a lot more attractive than a turned handle, aesthetically speaking. Very beautiful.
  11. A little something in pencil - about frailty and how we should treasure and handle rare and beautiful things (and each other) with care.
  12. Now, take this with a pinch of salt please, since the pandemic times that we live in, but I recall a footnote somewhere that Ivermectin is also sometimes used in combination with the other drugs more commonly used for Bilharzia.................not sure anyone ever did a double blind peer reviewed and Hub approved study on it though................maybe this is your chance?! Ps. I note that Comic Sans has disappeared with the update????
  13. I also thought the full price was a bit steep until I had to replace a watch strap and ended up paying several times that for something that was of obviously poorer quality .
  14. Just so nobody gets distracted, this is the one you want. I've had one for about 5 years and it really stood up to some abuse. The silicone is still the same as when new. The clip is of better quality than many high end watches. The laser engraving lasted surprisingly well, although after a good bit of abuse, you have to read the numbers carefully nowadays. It is light and comfortable to wear. And b.t.w. I have no connection with IceID, just some experience of crashing and needing help afterwards.
  15. Did you notice that the fence along that road is often close to the road on one side and very far away on the other, leaving a good 50 to100 metres of road reserve / veld next to the road ? It is called a "trekpad" and that is the route the Karoo farmers used to trek with their herds of sheep between the Tankwa Karoo / Sutherland Karoo where there is usually better winter grazing and the drier Karoo further East (Beaufort West, Prince Albert, Merweville, Laingsburg) . The wide reserve along the road allowed the sheep to graze as they trekked. There are still farmers who do that trek between farms that they own in both areas, but nowadays they do it with trucks, rather than on foot.
  16. The guy who sprayed the front wings did it on a Wednesday. The rest of the car was done first thing Monday (hangover time) or last thing Friday (It's WEEKEND baby) ....................
  17. Wear an ICE ID especially when riding alone. Whoever finds you up will at least know which medical aid you belong to when they get you to the ER and you'll not be dumped at the nearest overwhelmed state hospital. They'll also phone the right person to come fetch you there (that's if you can be fetched to go home)
  18. One of the very best luxuries in life that! Also, a super energy gel! (My father used to keep bees)
  19. Yes, I understand how it works. I have a place in the Karoo and with the fracking plans, I have educated myself about the process. No, I have no inside info about this applcation. I do however have an interest in a recreational activity in them-there-hills over and above the mountain biking. We have had an arrangement with some of the farmers going back about 25 years. Mostly it was very informal and done on a basis of mutual trust and a handshake. I have seen several developments on the farms over that period, ranging from quarries, mountain bike trails, restaurants to business/industrial parks. The one thing that always paid off for us, was to keep a good personal relationship with the farm owner. Ticking off the farmer is the one quick way of getting thrown out. (Ticking of his wife is the fastest way!)
  20. Also, this far, here is zero indication that there is ANY intention of closing the trails there. In the same area there are several other farms with working quarries where riding is allowed and where many riders are not even aware of those activities.
  21. In the notice itself, in the very first paragraph, it states clearly that it is about prospecting for construction aggregate. In other words, a quarry for stone. All those who speculate and post **** without reading the notice...............I just shake my head. As for Hoogekraal being a recreational area that mountain bikers have rights to..............it is private property, agricultural land and it is 100% up to the owner to allow you there or not. We have no "right" As for the owner wanting to prospect with the idea of starting a rock quarry there............as long as he does it legally, and the notice indicates that he is at least trying to do that...........then that is within his rights as the owner, to develop and earn from his investment. If you have proof of illegal dealings, expose it, but don't throw around unfounded speculations. Making a farm like that profitable is very difficult. Mountain biking money does not help much. As for not wanting another quarry in your riding backyard.............I understand that, but tell me whow much the quarries on Faircape and Contermans are negatively impacting on your riding. Both co-exist peacefully with farming and mountain biking. We all want roads improved, houses built, offices built.............the stone must come from somewhere..............close by..............to make it feasible. You can't make an omelette without breaking an egg...........as long as it is broken correctly. All quarries close to the city were closed many years ago for environmental reasons (think Glencairn, Vredehoek, Bo-Kaap, Tyger Valley......). The next nearest place is Durbanville Hills. Object, by all means, but THINK before you do, get the FACTS, make your objection count...............or you'll just be another ranter without substance.
  22. It was touch and go this morning????
  23. 3M protective film from Maizey Plastics in Paarden Eiland and some DIY https://www.maizey.co.za/
  24. Walnut can be extremely variable, from very plain light brown plank to the most amazing intricate patterns.
  25. The yellow tinted ones do improve your low light vision. I found mine at a gunshop. They are used as eye protection by shooters and to create more contrast between a flying clay pigeon and the blue sky background.
