  1. I'm searching the classidieds for a frame and talking to Jared as I type ............. gonna build this............
  2. If Colnago really only made one of these, it is going to cause a moerse fight, even between the computer nerds.
  3. As a fan of art-bikes, I simply cannot fault the conceptualization of this - and it works from an aesthetic point of view also! Damn, I wish I was Bill Gates................no, wait, then the wife would want half of my prescious.
  4. A farmer screwing with peoples heads = unusual sculpture
  5. Not often Dale can be faulted for composition

Newby perhaps, but I disagree somewhat. The passenger stayed calm and was completely functional throughout. He did not freak out or became petrified, both very natural things when you are getting shot at. He could take instructions from his more experienced officer. Look at him using the phone, there is no sign of him shaking or fumbling, just doing what he was told, efficiently. Not many people will maintain their fine motor skills like that when they are in the situation they were in. Fine motor skills are the first to go when the adrenaline starts pumping! So, in my opinion, he did pretty well. Edit: Perhaps I should add that the last time I had lead flying overhead was a lifetime ago and in another life. Nowadays I am more an expert in adrenaline and how that works! Edit 2: I'd like to hear what Gummy thinks about this
  7. If I ride alone, and because I have a terrible record of crashing, Tokai is the place at the moment (that, and my usual haunt in my backyard just burnt down). B.t.w. Mark is one of those guardian angels looking after you while you ride in Tokai. You'll hopefully never need his help, but do say hi and wave whenever you see a Tokai MTB bakkie up there and remember that angels come in all kind of shapes and forms, even if they don't look or talk the way you think they should! Thanks Mark, for the countless hours you spend up there.

Amazing to watch. It is as if he sensed that something was wrong and started looking in al 3 his rearview mirrors much more than earlier. I would assume he saw the same suspicious car or cars positioning themselves for an attack.
  10. The email often only arrives the next day. If you got the "payment successful" message, just relax and wait. If nothing happens by tomorrow, then phone them. I had a hiccup with payment and they sorted it quickly over the phone.
  11. Team DJR entered and paid without trouble. We are somewhat reduced in numbers, but I am scouting for a new member or two. I have put the challenge out there to my siblings, cousins, nephews and nieces. Let's see if the lazy upcountry lot can get their act together. My offer is that I will ride with anyone of my family doing it for the first time, no matter how slowly.................and then I thought that I may have a spot of trouble keeping up if some of the youngsters take me up on the offer!
  12. The UCT dirt jumps survived, if with a bit of a charring.
  13. My scorched neck of what used to be woods. Sommer just a spin with D to inspect our neighbourhood now that the smoke has cleared. Sad.
  14. I've got news for you.........
  15. I did more than 10 and i got the same email. No invitation to enter early. Maybe I said too many nice things about them?
  16. Smoke! Smoke everywhere!
  17. That is an excellent explanation of my week.
  18. Ha ha, if you want to know what happens when you do a downhill at 45 km/h with a front wheel and handlebars like that. I can send you a picture of my scars.
  19. You did THAT on the gravel bike Respect
  20. More history they never taught us: Cracking the sky - The fascinating story by a fascinating South African, Des Prout-Jones (he is still alive and every now and then still launches a rocket for fun and his grand children) who built and shot rockets long ago (late 1940s to 1960s), but was blocked around every corner. Yes, we could have had a space programme long ago if the authorities were not so idiotically myopic. https://www.amazon.com/Cracking-Sky-History-Rocket-Science/dp/1868882039 More detail of the stuff they did http://www.rocketry.org.za/History
  21. I am glad they managed to find an alternative date and I will enter team DJR. We will sadly only be three members this time as Senior is now riding where the roads are always smooth, downhill and downwind. I am unsure how practical social distancing will be for an event of this nature and size, but sooner or later I suppose we'll have to work out how it can be done. I trust the organizers to monitor the pandemic situation as we get closer to race day and respond appropriately. I am also pretty sure someone will use the event for a proper scientific study to see what happens afterwards. Interesting times indeed!
  22. Love at first sight makes everything OK.
  23. After this mornings abruptly ended ride I didn't plan to, but we decided to take a quick spin on the mtbs to see what was happening with the fire. I saw it early this morning when I passed Rondebosch Common on the roadie and certainly didn't think it would get so out of control. But the wind picked up and it is April after all! Now it is out of control with several of UCTs buildings already burnt down and many others in great danger. Mosterts Mill caught fire but seems to have survived mostly. Not good at all! Our neighbourhood streaming with students evacuated from residences all trying to find transport somewhere, but with roads closed in many directions. The water bombing choppers are flying non-stop right over us and the firetrucks are trying to be everywhere at the same time. Everything is covered in an eerie light and thick smoke. It is now burning literally from the M3 all the way to the very top of Devils Peak and seems to be heading towards Rondebosch and Newland. Scary as all hell!
