  1. Agreed. I blocked him. This bike was advertised at R30k, sold for R28k. For me the best suggestion would be to fight fire with fire. How about every friday morning we all take 5 minutes out of our time to send 10 low ball offers? get 20 people on the program that's 200 message on the system to go through. the spammer becomes the spammee
  2. looks like they have a Camino option for you. https://www.edusport.co.za/packages/cycling-the-portuguese-camino-de-santiago-9-day-self-guided-travel-package/ R22k pp sharing, gets you 7 riding days of bike hire, accomodation(8), breakfast and even luggage transfer. I know you said you were being lazy, but did you do a basic google? Several reputable companies offer cycling holidays in Portugal, catering to various preferences and fitness levels. BSpoke Tours focuses on scenic coastal routes and Douro Valley e-biking, while Saddle Skedaddle provides both guided and self-guided tours exploring the coast and countryside. Portugal Best Cycling, specializing in the Alentejo region, emphasizes local authenticity and cultural experiences. Exodus Travels offers guided and self-guided tours along the Atlantic coast and through the Algarve. Portugal A2Z Walking & Biking offers customizable walking and biking tours, including self-guided options. Other options include Headwater Holidays, Eurobike, and Cycling for Softies, which focus on luxury and sustainability, respectively.
  3. 3HC mountains, this is the biggest stage in terms of uphill numbers. might always find a break comprised of teams with zero GC affect goes far up the road and the UAE/JV guys call a truce until the final finish.
  4. for me at comrades I could taste some of the water was either siff, or very chemical. i just spat it out and ditched the sachet. possibly 3/4 out of 30 sachets. I haven't followed to see if it was a wider problem really. Not sure entirely how it works, but what happens to unused water sachets at a race? Do they go back to depot for the next race? fine if it's next week, but what if it's a few months (or a calendar year). There is of course a huge push to be more green friendly, can see sachet reuse being an issue that could go south
  5. From trail running on the silvermine east section, there's a section of jeeptrack that also become a river. There is a section where the road just disappears into a hole, so hazard tape for now! Can see that the basic prep work has started on sorting this out, but looks like only remedial stuff till summer when they can properly fix it. overall, the wapad, silvermine loop and tokai forest all require some decent roadworks to actually get them fixed and winter proofed. I doubt there is funds or plans for this so we will just see bandaids until it gets destroyed.
  6. sure, the increase in weight is quite significant - can go from 300g to almost a kg on a junior fullface. What do you think on the removable chin guard option?
  7. From your previous post you're an outlier. Bought a bike for R100k, rode it for about 400km and sold it for R60k. I only mention this because the sum was easy to do in my head: R100/km it cost to ride that bike - not judging, I just like real numbers when we get them! This would actually reinforce the point the OP was making, you took a real haircut to shift this mint condition bike on. But we both agree it's an outlier so doesn't really change the argument. The real point that may or may not have been mentioned, is that a new bike has a warranty which (normally) has a tangible value to the first owner - this is thrown down the drain when the bike is sold 2nd hand - the seller takes the hit on this.
  8. JUNIOR HELMETS! Ok I did do a search on this thread, and most of the info/comments are for kids 2-8 and trying to get ones that actually fit/comfy. I'm at the point where HBomb(10yrs) wants a full face helmet, because he hangs out at the bikepark and does massive ramps that scare me. Bit nervous to cave in too soon since there's very much a have the latest and greatest and fit in with the cool crowd that are sometimes there. It appears having the new model Leatt Full face is my 90s equivalent of a V500 Bryan Lara 501 special edition junior cricket bat. Get one and even though you are 11, you will get half centuries and chicks lining up round the corner. I never got one (or the other stuff). He also does longish trail rides and that begs the question to me. a)get a Full face with detachable chin bar. b)horses for courses - have a helmet for bikepark/dirt jumps and a different one for the longer stuff. Any advice welcome here. (Leatt seem to have some on sale at not ridiculous pricing actually).
  9. This move 20" => 26" was by accident (theft), but he was too big for the 20" and while currently comfortable will stay on this bike for a long time (hopefully). I have mostly bought 2nd hand, sold 2nd hand, so don't think there is too much lost in an extra wheel size. If you're handy with spanners in the garage then working on the bikes is an extra hobby and a learning lesson. He also has his older sister's 24" frog bike for the road/shops and back. She will move onto moms old 26(m) soon I think.
  10. wonder how many people paid for a bike they are no longer getting, and will now have to queue somewhere down the line? looks like they have some stock still available, somehow... https://www.yt-industries.com/en-us/Sale/Outlet/
  11. yes, that is entirely correct. Unless he does a JAP and holds onto yellow like jack russel to a frisbee.
  12. Merida will not have this problem, they got no one within an hour of yellow
  13. this thread continues to deliver! sure i have posts from 10yrs ago here, but this was pre lockdown when 12" was still going strong. Skipped the bit where he has been punishing a spez 20" for a long time We got him a 24" momsen superlight that was kickass, but it was rigid and Vbrakes. That got swiped off the car, so it was back to the 20" that is actually still in the garage then recently we upgraded all the way to 26" kept a filter running on XS26" DS here, and this RM element popped up. proper bike territory. he is on his 3rd trip to the Uitsig bike park in 4 days now (school holidays) This was oak (mud) valley over the weekend. Was hoping to do the full loop including Vissie's magic, but ran out of time so just did 14km. He just sends it, blindly ramping everything that points up. this was after hitting the decking corner at speed, it was properly wet as you can see from the rooster bumb. dad might need to get a FS himself again now!
  14. I notice @LukeForce hasn't been here since monday. Would love to know more about the bike he wanted to sell where the value he held in it was way above "market" expectations. 1x is the best thing that happened to MTB for me. My 2x10 drivetrain works just great and I've been able to pick up cheap cheap cassettes for the past 4/5 years here from people swapping over. The well seems to have dried up there now though!
  15. while it would be more interesting if you posted some specifics of the bike you're trying to shift, I'll bite You bought a bike at R60k during the boom times and now want to sell it for something shinier? You got caught out by a standard supply/demand curve, and as the new ones are being sold at discount the older stuff will need the same discount to remain relevant. Here's a R60k bike. now available for R42k. brand spanking new. https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/sale-2025/products/merida-ninety-six-xt-edition-2024 Imagine you'd be riding that for a year, and it's still spotless. Try listing it at R50k, or sell it for R30k. and here's some bikes they clearly traded in for sale too. https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/pre-owned
  16. might as well respond here as it is sort of the last part of this conversation even though other events are going on. anyone signed up for a subscription R2979 for a years worth of races or the R2495 for a single race?
  17. great news, maybe @Danger Dassie can update the title. onwards and upwards
  18. hey. you can't make this post and not gooi some kief pics. convince us further!
  19. unfortunately there is a somehow a business case as they are still here. They pay a lackey to monitor the classifieds and snap up any bargain/lowball that comes along. The steal of a deal one could often get years ago as a private only marketplace will never happen again while they are all here. You can block them. OR go look at their listings and lowball them back if that will make you feel better.
  20. Been cruising Cape St Francis trails this week. really cool local loops set up by cycling club joined them for the weekly shop ride you need a MTB here just for the potholes on the tar roads! HBomb now has a real bike, an XS 26er that he will eventually grow into. smashes every jumpo in sight edit:stupid file format
  21. no SAF riders at Le Tour, last time this happened was 2014.
  22. any lock will get broken eventually, just make it a bit harder. I like these ones that have a fabric covering on them. With the rise of cordless angle grinders, a steel chain is useless. https://www.decathlon.co.za/p/145609-94962-bike-chain-lock-900-l.html
  23. not sure about that. Field is limited to 369 runners. In 2025 9993 people applied through the lottery. You need to finish an ultra (100km+) just to get to this point.
  24. While I personally believe online petitions are complete waste of time. This one has been launched to get Sanparks attention with the many NPOs and volunteers doing their jobs for them. not sure how much TokaiMTB falls into this venn diagram, but if you like signing petitions clickety click https://www.change.org/p/savetablemountain-6c6a0005-d0fa-4382-bc93-7e7eff347bbd/exp/cl_/cl_sharecopy_490637074_en-GB/4/419287226?recruiter=419287226&recruited_by_id=bc6441c7-a0e1-41ac-8d39-4e67e302072c&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_medium=copylink&utm_content=cl_sharecopy_490637074_en-GB%3A4
