  1. The beauty of the 1x system is that you can configure your chainring setup, based on the type of riding you are doing. I mostly use my gravel bike on the road, so I have a 46T front chainring with a 10 - 42T cassette and I have never had a gearing issue. When going offroad, I swap the front chainring for a 42T and then I'm good to go. The 1x system is much simpler, cleaner and lighter. I prefer it, but each to their own, not everyone does.
  2. Big special on 1x11 XX1 chains? https://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/sram-xx1-chain
  3. How far away is your laptop positioned? Often, you need to run a USB extension cable to place the ANT+ stick near the devices. I used to have this issue often when connecting. Since changing over to bluetooth (Apple TV), the connection appears much more stable.
  4. I can't comment on their customer support, as touch wood, I haven't needed it. But that doesn't sound like a great experience! I have never used Sufferfest, but I have heard it's a great platform!
  5. There is something wrong with either your setup or connection. Zpower (what Zwift calls it) works perfectly with a speed and cadence sensor and a specific list of dumb trainers (I believe yours is on the list). Zwift is able to calculate power as the resistance curve of the trainer is known, meaning that for a given speed and cadence, power can be established. Zpower works in the same way as Sufferfest calculates "virtual watts".
  6. Hi David, While checking my intervals.icu page, I noticed that my runs last week (before lockdown), aren't showing a load, where as the previous weeks, a training load has been calculated for both my running and cycling efforts. Did something change in an update, or do I need to modify some settings?
  7. But make sure you do it responsibly, with a least a 2m gap from them...
  8. Is this on the 3, or the 3 HR? I have a 3 HR and have no issues - all notifications come through. Don't the 3 and the 3 HR use the same software?
  9. According to Zwift, they reached a new peak of 24341 people!
  10. As already mentioned here, the issue is around how incredibly selfish people are - they will go out and run, but will end up having coffee afterwards with their friends (everyone is in lockdown, so why does it matter?) The number of people that I see on Strava who are still riding and running in big groups, followed by coffee, astounds me - am I the only one who heard how strict the measures are? Social distancing and and not training in groups should have been something which everyone implemented over a week ago already... People cannot even stick to the basic rules, such as social distancing - this lockdown is going to go from 3 weeks to 3 months because of it...
  11. I need to count how many stairs my building has - can do some hill training...
  12. Flattening the curve - it is presently spreading too fast as people are selfish and going about their daily business with no thought for others or social distancing. The lockdown is only a starting point, it will help slow down the rate of infections, but even then, a large number of people will still get infected. Our hospitals are already largely full, so there won't be enough ICU beds and equipment and look at the position Italy finds themselves in.
  13. Agreed, there are reports of the army being deployed at various spots around Joburg - tonight's announcement is going to be interesting.
  14. J2C, Two Oceans etc. have all been cancelled - it's only a matter of time until this event is cancelled. All events for the next two or three months will be cancelled.
  15. That must be the new units that now have temperature compensation added. Previously, this wasn't the case. The Spez dual sided powermeter was developed with 4iiii a year or two ago and Spez insisted on having temperature compensation, which at the time, wasn't part of the 4iiii system. I'm assuming that since then, the newer 4iiii units now have temperature compensation
  16. They don't have temperature compensation - hence the issue
  17. I originally built my gravel bike as my N+1 bike, but I find I ride it all the time, especially towards winter when it's dark on the morning rides. The extra comfort and not having to worry about every tiny hole on the road, plus the power of disc brakes makes it my go to a lot of the time. It's also fast enough to keep up with road bikes. Will it ever replace my road bike? No - as I race and the geometry isn't quite the same. If I weren't racing on the road, I would only have a gravel bike with two different wheel options.
  18. Bontrager Ion Pro - bright, usb chargeable and no separate battery pack.
  19. Anyone want a used bike for R175k? Bargain of note! https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/397499/canondale-black-inc
  20. Fantastic job David - I now use Intervals.icu as my standard day-to-day analysis tool!
  21. Each to their own...
  22. Exactly - it's personal. I normally have a bowl of Futurelife and a cup of coffee and that works for me. Find what works for you and then stick to it.
  23. Yup somewhere around there. Maybe a little more expensive for a mtb due to the weight and box size.
  24. +1 for XOC - used them several times and they have been reliable and cheap.
