  1. I trust, after all of this, you gave some good honest feedback to the seller, in the form of a 1 star review?
  2. Indeed! A cheap road bike and Kickr Snap or similar would have set you back around R9k - R10k. That being said, you now have the spin bike. It should be a relatively easy fix. Maybe take it to a bike shop who has a crank puller, or alternatively, buy the crank puller yourself. *Edit: Spelling
  3. It's definitely worth it! All of my bikes have been second hand - never purchased a bike new. Touch wood, but never had any issues with the purchased frames, and that's for around 10 frames. As already mentioned, make you sure you give it a good inspection and insure it to the replacement value and you are good to go.
  4. Often, through wear, design or slight variations in manufacturing, some play develops between the bearing and the frame. As the play is minimal, a simple shim, cut out of a coke can, works wonders.
  5. It's Facebook - everything there is dodgy
  6. Another great source of information: https://www.enve.com/en/tirepressure/
  7. Why on earth would you run the tyres at 8 bar, especially at your weight?!
  8. Hi mudlark, a few questions before an informed answer can be given: 1. What do you weigh? 2. Are you running both with tubes, or did you run the GP5000s tubeless? 3. What width tyres are running?
  9. Best combo is the Bontrager light: https://www.trekbikes.com/za/en_ZA/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-lights/bike-front-lights/bontrager-ion-pro-rt-front-bike-light/p/22466/?colorCode=black They are very bright and have a good battery life. They have a bluetooth version, as well as just a normal version. The following adaptor allows it to mount securely onto a gopro style mount: https://www.trekbikes.com/za/en_ZA/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-lights/bike-front-lights/bontrager-ion-pro-rt-front-bike-light/p/22466/?colorCode=black They are also fantastic in terms of warranty. My friend's mount broke when he hit a pothole and they replaced the light, no questions asked.
  10. Landed cost will be around R10k, which is still really good for carbon wheels with tubeless tyres!
  11. Thanks for sharing guys - myself and a few friends have been looking for replacement lenses, so will give them a shout.
  12. Nice looking bikes at a reasonable price compared to other brands. That brake caliper is going to be a nightmare - one post mount and one flat mount...
  13. These two examples show where discs are better than rims - in the wet and on long descents. For the majority of riders, especially in South Africa, the case for disc brakes isn't great as we will never use them to their full design potential and the additional weight that they add outweighs the additional performance (I am a fair weather rider and try avoid riding in the rain). That being said... Would I love a bike with disc brakes - hell yeah (they look fantastic!) Am I going to go out and buy a bike with disc brakes - hell no (too expensive)!
  14. Due to the lightweight design of the red cassette (machined from a solid piece of material), the cassette is noticeably louder as it propagates the sound from each gear throughout the cassette. It is however, extremely light!
  15. 1.8 Bar is very hard for such a high volume tyre!
  16. And that is why one doesn't bank with ABSA - only ever heard terrible things about them
  17. According to Garmin, it was still in warranty, but I'm certain that the warranty had expired... R3700 is still not a bad deal though, but frustrating that one has to pay anything.
  18. My dad recently had a problem with his Fenix 5, whereby the screen stopped working. He took it to Garmin and they replaced it with a brand new unit. A lot of the service industry in South Africa could learn from Garmin.
  19. There are certain tools on my mountain bike, such as my chain breaker, which touch wood, I have never used, but I have stopped to help others who needed them. Pay it forward - one day you will be the one stuck on the side of the road / trail.
  20. +1 or the Spez rib cages. I have never lost a bottle with either of these cages and never had any rattles. Several riding mates have changed to these cages after losing bottles and never had issues since. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/bottle-cages/384821/specialized-side-entry-carbon-cage
  21. Agreed, wahoo tickr
  22. You would be surprised - the majority of bikes now come with the 52/36 semi-compact cranksets.
  23. That's not the case at all... Sram 11 speed XX1, X01 and GX all use the XD driver design. The XD driver is required for the 10T which is used on both 11 and 12 speed cassettes. I also don't agree that it was a "quick fix" - SRAM were far ahead of Shimano and others when they introduced the 10T.
  24. Nicely done Canyon, superb looking bike! Let's hope they reinforced the top tube... *Edit: great detailing with the handlebar design - especially for travelling, as well as for adjustment purposes
  25. Also been using diluted clean green for years and never had any issues! OP, I really don't see how a cleaning agent can damage the fork anodizing that badly! Are you sure it wasn't something else?
