  1. Wonder what they would say to a device with a cracked screen.... worth a try
  2. May get my first warning point but couldn't resist
  3. I bet his are genuine branded bolts though....
  4. Interesting statement from Magura from a bikerumor article: "Boiling oil, that is a compressible fluid, is even worse, because the brake can fail completely. This can be caused by constant dragging and/or steep gradients, pads with low friction coefficient. DOT fluid has a higher boiling point than mineral oil, but mineral oil will keep the boiling point for ever, whereas DOT attracts water over time, even through seals (and its boiling point) will decrease over time and will be worse than with mineral oil. That’s also the reason why brake fluid on cars has to be changed every 2 years."
  5. Good article to read (possibly a repost): http://www.bikerumor.com/2012/02/14/road-bike-disc-brakes-are-coming-but-will-they-work/
  6. Replace the cable or bleed the brakes during a service, much of a muchness, although replacing cables seems to be easier in terms of the tools required and the potential mess. Modulation (if that's the correct term) appears to me to be the only benefit, with traditional brakes you have a spring that is keeping the pads off the surface that you are working against all the time when braking, with hydraulic brakes the spring action is much lighter which in turn makes the lever action feel much lighter as well. I have seen a damaged hydraulic cable (it was damaged in a earlier incident with a rock / tree) "burst" when breaking pressure was applied further down the trail. This example was due to a single defined incident but I know I don't check the full length of my hoses for wear, I would expect the hoses to begin wearing around the headtube and BB areas on FS bikes, potentially making them weaker.

  8. Mmm, sad http://sheldonbrown.com/blog/2013/02/03/its-been-five-years/
  9. So much info, just a pity the site was designed in 19dot, really needs a decent index and update. Seems one day we will just get a 404 error and it will all be gone.
  10. Don't forget http://sheldonbrown.com/ with a bit of digging there is some very good info there.
  11. I think I can vouch for that.
  12. Probably the same reason my mate wont wear his Epic kit, probably does not want anyone to ask about it. Hectic what a cycle race can do to people.
  13. Nope, definitely not, but he wont even ride in the rider kit cause he feels he didn't finish it.
  14. Same as a mate who crashed out of the Epic in 2012, he has the right to wear the kit, even if he could not finish it.
  15. How many of us ride in replica team shirts and bibs? Is it not the same principle? But I do agree with the OP, I looked at it and although at the price they would make great training shirts I too decided to not support it as I don't think I would be able to get over not having done the Epic - Now if the Epic logo could be removed....
  16. Total cost? Might rig up one permanently under the carport where I wash my bike
  17. Bare foot waterskiing suits have built in life jackets....
  18. CRC for a BB that goes for R120 at the LBS? - Rather go past your LBS and pick up a BB, the 115 should be no problem, unless the cranks were extremely close to the chainstays.
  19. +1 - will be trying this next, my Conti combo (MK + XK UST) probably have another month left in them and although they have been great I feel the need to try something different.
  20. Mad skillzzzz http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Sv3xVOs7_No
  21. One of my favorites currently
  22. Picked up mine from Mica Eastgate yesterday, charged me R799 which I think is still not bad, its well built and with some care (don't over-tighten to clamps etc) it will last a couple of years, probably not 20 years but for the price it aint bad at all.
  23. +1 Most of us would probably not notice 10 Banana Peels lying in a bush but I for one would notice empty 10 GU packs. What will do more damage, an animal ingesting a banana peel (unlikely as they will smell it and move on) or a GU sachet (much more likely as the residual smell and taste will stay on the packet for days) Interesting 4th Grade experiment regarding Banana vs apple: http://4thgradesciencefair.wikispaces.com/Osayamen+Atekha
