  1. +1 for XOC (Courier guys's offer for clients without an account). Cost me next to nothing and brilliant service. Pickup on the same day and delivery within a few days to CPT.
  2. Unfortunately CL has a history of bad service and high prices in their independent stores. With their "Mega stores" I found the prices to be a bit more reasonable and the service not too bad. I'm hoping CWC will rub off on CL, improve their service and pricing rather than CWC being negatively influenced by CL. All the best with the new venture!
  3. +1 for Anton as well as for Rodney. Have had Anton do some work for my on my SS, solid guy and great service! Have done a few rides with Raffa and have spent a bit of time with Rodney, very decent guy as well!! Will take my bike to either in a heartbeat!
  4. Could you possibly suggest a fork and shock to look at? The beard alone is worth more than R12k!! That being said, I think many people spend close to that a year on beard products
  5. Enduro on a budget... The actual question is really, how tough is the general run of the mill enduro tracks? Is it possible to ride them, well enough to enjoy it and not feel like the bike is killing you, on a budget bike? At this stage I own a DS Merida One-Twenty 26'er with some decent parts on there for it's age. XT brakes, SLX groupset. My thinking was to upgrade the fork to something with 130mm travel and do an upgrade on the quality of the rear suspension. All and all I reckon I can do this for around R12k. Would you consider this as an option, or is it better to hang on a bit and buy a second hand machine for R20k?

To add. Stay away from the tequila stop, or have a crapload. It's crappy doing Malibongwe half buzzed!

If you want to do it comfortably, train hills and do a few longer rides. If you're going for survival, just pitch up. I did it last year, also my first, with about 3 months of training. During this time I did a few 60km rides, 1 x 80km ride, and my standard training was about 5 km hill intervals 3 times a week, I have a loverly 1km climb from outside our estate. Tips: 1) Be there early, traffic getting in sucks!! 2) Use and carry enough sunscreen!! 3) 2 x water bottles is enough, there's a waterpoint every few km's so you can fill up everywhere. 4) Carry spares incl a few bombs, patches/plug, some sealant and a few masterlinks. It's a very expensive race not to finish due to a technical.
  8. Just passed a black S-works MTB, an Epic I think, ridden by someone that did not look the part, with his torn shoes not working with the SPD's under them, dirty overall and unkept beard. I was on foot, I stopped to as him about the bike he rode away down Keyes Avenue, Rosebank in Sandton's direction (I believe this is west but can be wrong). Time was just before 11am.

    Biltong

Generally speaking I would second this and crucify myself. However this fillet has been in the freezer for too long to braai, and I need the freezer space for the hunt over the weekend . Busy making space like crazy!!
  10. Seeing that there's absolutely no good advice in this thread, here's the answer to all your problems: No more sore arse, and you get stronger legs for peddling a heavier bike!

Just to brag a bit... I have a Kudu fillet spiced in the fridge which will go into the dryer tomorrow evening . Pics will go up once I have taken them.
  12. Also have a look at Rapide. Awesome quality and legendary service!
  13. Just to add to the question asked on broken parts. I did a claim recently after a crash. I almost think there's a complete post about it earlier in this thread. In short the insurance required a report from my LBS stating that the item is "beyond repair" and they paid out in a heartbeat. All and all from crash to money in the bank was under a week. They paid for: 1) New helmet; 2) New gloves; 3) New front wheel; 4) Labour to build new front wheel. Premium went up by R30.00. Which is fair IMHO as I claimed within about 6 months from getting insurance.
  14. PM Sent with my broker's details.
  15. Broken carbon seatpost sounds like a pain in the @ss...
  16. Big Red Barn is also one to keep in mind. Some kid friendly trails, loads of beginner friendly trails as well as a decent coffee shop and enough entertainment for the young one.
  17. Great choice, I only have the front built with a Rapide rim on a Hope Hub, I live just down the road from you so if you're keen to inspect the rim before you buy give me a shout.
  18. Carbon is not weak by any measure. It also comes with a few perks like vibration absorption etc. Some time ago I built an alu frame SS roadbike to sub 7kg's without breaking the bank. If you are going the weight weeny route the best advice I can give you is to strip the bike, and weigh each part individually. This will allow you to choose where to save weight for the best bang for your buck.
  19. Lyne has a very good reputation on the Hub so if you are after weight saving I would buy a set in a heartbeat. I personally have a front wheel with a Rapide rim, can't comment on the weight but it's super strong and runs like a dream!!! PS. Do you need new wheels or are you merely after saving a few grams? If it's only a weight thing can't you save a bit more for the same money by changing the cockpit, tyres and crankset? Edit: For instance from a quick Google I see that you have an Alloy seatpost which I reckon will be fairly heavy. For sub R1k you can get a Thomson Elite seatpost (from CRC) which weights about 188grams and for another R800.00 you can get a Rapide Carbon bar which comes in at sub 200grams again.
  20. Thanks for the heads up. If management is informed I'm sure they will be on it. They have been very pro active in the past. How are the trails at the moment? I'm keen to go for a ride there but the last time there was significant damage due to fires.
  21. Not sure how old your software on the Garmin is but my Fenix 3 had to be updated, via PC connection, before it would sync with my IPhone the first time.
  22. In short it's a public process so nothing stops you from writing once it's finalized. I would however stay clear from adding personal info and specifics.
  23. Well done Landy! Glad that this are looking up and moving along. Myles, good luck. Hopefully all goes easy and you get on the unopposed roll nice and quick, in PTA we have roughly a 6 week wait for dates. Gents when the dust settles, please send me a PM. I would like to write a short "how to and what to look out for" and would love some info from the other side of the table.
  24. After legal notices not being delivered (s129's) I lost my toys at my local post office this morning, after a long back and forth they gave me a printout to show when the parcel was sent to Witpos, and he advised that they are currently on a go slow but couldn't supply any reasons.
  25. Ahh was not me then. I almost took a dip tho!!
