Middle pic looks a tiny bit naughty, but otherwise it all looks pretty normal. Regardless of what the law says, once you have more than half a dozen cyclists together this is what happens. Oh, and the law says its ok to be two abreast if overtaking. So the answer is to always be running a paceline in these situations - if you're that anal about things.

I think its fantastic here, the no. and variety of events. Been in SA 7yrs, doin 7th 94.7 2morro. Really motivating to stay fit and get fitter & to get around the country. SA has the 2 biggest timed races and, in the Epic, one of the world's top 5 (?) endurance events. There's huge amounts to be proud of. Oh and had such a good time at the Expo this a.m. It was much bigger than the last cpl of yrs and i got loads of stuff, legs massaged and a W'worths greek salad for R10. Quality experience and no Q @ 9am.

3-4yrs ago Raleigh made a huge push to get into the market in a big way. They werent "junkbikes" they were high-spec bikes sold cheap. Bike shops broke them down for the spares & the frames were then for free. Ultegra throughout for R7k was a helluva deal. Anyway, they put their prices up in line with others so there's a lot less being sold & so less activity on the Hub. I had an RC7000 for a couple of years and now have the components on a Da Rosa frame - marvellous. But dont say "Junkbikes" about people's machines it makes you sound like a dick.

My thoughts is that this gets discussed every week - have a search and see. I like the mini-flamethrower pepper spray & a kwik kick to the assailants' nuts; but i watch too much pseudo-violence on TV so this approach could be a death sentence, who knows.

Could be me - I'm a cyclist but my pay is not from cycling. The money for SA pros is peeeeeeeeanuts. Quite a horde are just on expenses, board & lodging; there is very little money in the sport here.

There was a news item from the Uk last week asking cyclists not to pass large vehicles on the left as they cant see & will knock you off if they turn left. Same in traffic, I dont think its always the driver's fault if a cyclist is going faster than a car on their inside (undertaking?)& they bump them turning left.

Couple of thoughts: Mtbers should greet more cuz they're not going very fast; also because they get within kissing distance of each other when passing; Roadies dont have the same obligation to wave across four lanes of traffic to guys goin the other way - but some of us do sometimes. Nobody should focus on greeting in traffic; on a potholed road; or when pixies have left crap on your trail. But people are people (poepol?) & there's a mix. If I said hi 25 times on the Spruit in 15mins, the 26th might be hard to force out. Enough people say "hi" that i'll say "hi" & the rest are doing whatever they are doing.
