  1. Just out of interest and to save further spoiling the Best Buy for a Beginner thread. To me its the silliest term in cycling but I could be out of step with popular opinion. Knobbymech had asked Eccentric to come up with another name for it - So I thought I'd have a think before realising I've never had a reason to refer to it before. I would probably say "the bit between the handlebars" if pushed into a corner or waterboarded. Anyway on with the Biggles helmet, climb into the cockpit and chocs away for this exciting poll.
  2. Sure did, thanks (but was excited about the new light ). I think i'll be getting acquainted with the two rear peeps then.
  3. Oh, so Wendy James was just her stage name then? Didnt realise she was french (I dont want your money honey I want your lo-huh-huv....) Pumped up Kicks by Foster the People is super-super-catchy-as-hell, am liking it.
  4. V true, lived in Malawi for years where there is v little. Then on hols go to uk supermarket where there's 70 varieties of milk and just stand in front of the fridges gibbering quietly.
  5. What? Posting stuff on the wrong forum? Nah its not an unspoken rule, just a written one. And do make sure your thread title gives no clue as to what its about oh yeah, that was sorted.
  6. Was just thinking how we hadnt had one of these for a while but you sure you want to do this Bob? It tends to be a lot of noise for a fish-in-the-barrel shoot.
  7. Huge thread on this a while back - think it was from I-Fly. They made their own bag; but do a search the travelogue was quite comprehensive.
  8. How many people were there last week? I wanted to come but figured that a bike light was prolly minimum requirement. Since bought a Serfas True 250 that seems to have the power of a searchlight from a WWII pow camp, though slightly lighter (pardon da pun). So, looking forward to this week's bash.
  9. And about that bandwagon Thug.............. What size were the wheels on it?
  10. From the "annoying things on the Hub" thread:- "......Then there's two other types:- People who trash other people, shops, situations etc. when they dont realise that they are a cause of the problem.................." Just sayin.
  11. Cockpit? On a bicycle? Do they mean "the middle bit of the handlebars"? I mean what kind of cock is gonna fit in there? Pretentious crap. & dont get me started on "shootout". Bah humbug....... Language assassins.
  12. +1 To the OP - what does the policy say re: theft? The dictionary definitions arent what count.
  13. Cool rant JW, more patience than was reasonable to expect & I think you're exactly right to feel the way you do. Pictures helped a lot. Well done for missing him.
  14. There are 40 road deaths in this country every day. Some of them are going to be cyclists. It goes at about 3 per week from memory.
  15. Sure it was slightly odd for him to sit there and you got a fright. You might want to have a think about how you didnt know he was there and your general awareness on the roads. 45kmh is very fast for someone to be overlapping your wheel. You can talk about other people and rules but 1st choice is always to look after yourself and know what is going on around you.
  16. Sure, but if its cold enough for her to need a hat, she should be wrapping up a bit warmer. What with the smoking too this is a bad example to be setting for any kids watchin.
  17. +1 but put a bit nicer. Sorry you got hit.
  18. Same thing happened on the Lido route a while back. I nearly caused a pile up on Sunday riding down Kliprivier at the end of the Lido run. I saw a bakkie approaching the junction to my left and as the light was red for me I stopped. Jings that caused lots of huffing and puffing and shouting and squealing of brakes from the cyclists behind. I think we very often get lost in our own cycling world & lose touch with what's going on around us... & then we die.
  19. Or being a teenage male.
  20. That makes no sense at all, but ok, if that's your opinion. Most of the world's cyclists (& SA's) dont wear helmets and never have. I dont understand why folk get fixated with this issue.

    Bike Shop

I know you're upset but you don't seem to have a point. Do your research and dont buy if you dont like the price. Why would you have faith in bike shops? They're businesses, not friends.
  22. Damn right Scotters, the bastards should stay and clap us home - we're payin their wages. Maybe throw streamers too.
  23. Can we get Harry Potter on the case? (ok, ok, coat, hat, door)
