  1. Interesting, I love box-joints, have two jigs for the router and use them quite often. However, I agree, a dovetail does say something about skill level and dedication to the trade and displays well.
  2. Hairy, tjaaina! The wors must not be buggered with at all, ever! As jy moet steek, steek jou vinger in jou oog!!
  3. Socially unacceptable, period. Find an ashtray but not the fire food is being prepared on. And good on you for letting him know!
  4. The current Springbok side has a bad coach, a piss poor captain and generally have no idea what they trying to do. They are so poorly motivated the knuckles start dragging after 10 minutes. Its a sad sight to see
  5. Hope this helps another Hubber in future... Woodock Marine Sealer 50...for some reason when I use it as specified it always retains a slight tacky feel to it even weeks after resting the piece. And make no mistake, this place gets plenty hot. So bumped into mate that asked about the boat project and I cried a bucket about the expensive Woodock that just doesn't seem to cure. So he informs me he just read two days prior that when it does that to either wack it with a hair dryer on hot (nope, me no have one, missus obviously hiding hers) or to rub it down with some wax. So i whipped out the antique wax, applied some, left if for about 10 minutes, went back with a rag, buffed it off and low and behold, magic!! No more tacky.
  6. I know, but he wanted it to be static. Most my stuff rolls around, its an absolute treat especially in a garage environment.

  11. Your parcel is at customs in JHB (JIMC A) awaiting assessment and then clearance and release. Any AliExpress purchase tests ones patience fully!

One should first buy a Laser...it teaches old farts to concentrate while sailing. An unforgiving boat that doesn't allow stupid mistakes. Then progress to a Hobie 16/16 turbo, you'll get windgat a few times, pitch-pole her, dive a hole through your sail, smack your lip on some unknown nautical thingy and feel very sorry for yourself. Then you'll sell that, buy a Dart and scare the crap out of yourself and so it goes

Thing is, that even if you build it yourself, it remains an expensive sport. Trying to find decent repairable boats are also a mission.

  17. I have a question for the tax guru's; If Say I owe SARS X why do they not offset some from my medical aid and retirement annuity payments that they owe me? In my case they say I owe X due to a PAYE shortfall However, in the same breath I do not get credited for own medial aid contributions or RA contributions? I'm seriously confused
  18. Two 2.5m mast sections done, capped and now to fit the aluminium sleeve to attach them when sailing. 2.4m boom done, will fit mast hook this week and the goose neck to the mast. Then epoxy and paint, should be sailing well before December!!!!

  21. See the below improvement of the Makita fence...
  22. I've actually have a link to a vid which made one for the exact Makita table saw I have, will post tonight when home.
  23. Hi Capricorn, I'm super pleased with it; - It's accurate, I've mentioned here before, this machine needs a weekly check based on activity levels and mostly a monthly re-set. - No arbor wobble what so ever - I did replace the table insert with a wooden zero-clearance insert (self-made, you improve it you own it). The factory supplied plastic insert was to be brutally honest, absolute rubbish and a huge safety issue. The fence is not fantastic, but I'll get to it this December and build a Biessemeier style fence that should sort it out.
  24. The mast sections are 2,5m a piece, but yes, a lathe would've been the bomb on Saturday, however, not a very long job (excuse the pun) using 60grit paper and patience!
  25. This is to achieve the following "roundness" in the hollow mast sections; Final diameter is 52mm to fit mast foot and deck-collar of 55mm.
