  1. Amazing that it takes those forces, obviously not a balsa model
  2. Rather than calling people names, it would be better to spend your time educating yourself on wood shaving machines and their uses in industrial aapplications. Like for instance, where a large volume of odd sized off-cuts are produced in the process of making dowels, trim and other components a great value add is wood shavings for the pets and poultry industry. So you you would convert your off-cuts, poor planks etc to shaving for additional income with your wood shaving machine. So rather go poison other threads with your misguided comments and maybe also grow up a bit
  3. The best part about that is when it's missing/misplaced you print one instead of schlepping to the shops for a new one which they potentially don't have.
  4. Is it any good?
  5. Brilliant!
  6. That YouTube algorithm is taking you flippen everywhere hahaha
  7. Izzy Swan made a cool pry-bar out of wood for breaking pallets up nicely, you should go check it out
  8. An interior teak oil will be sufficient for the indoor application you intend it for. Over time the wood will take on a richer colour (some yellowing/honey) but that's the appeal of working with the lighter woods and their tendencies to age in that manner. Edit: I just remembered that I read in Wood Magazine some years ago that in the US they often do a sanding sealer followed by furtniture wax. The US does have proper seasonal swings and this application apparently prevents warping and structural problems over time
  9. I've had the right opposite experience the past 3 monts; two well priced purchases from long time hubbers. crank and gps' units I do play the long game as the king of secon hand goods in my circle of friends
  10. Hi ridr, me again... Your shoes must be your pillow so that the herdsmen don't steel it. I actually always hike with a pair of slops or old takkies, just for in-case my primary shoes go. Pack some fruit, when you encounter the herdsmen up top they love an apple or banana as a friendship gift. Camp left of the river on the opposite side of the ranger hut, which has no roof for some years now. The morning view from there is spectacular and unfortunately gives you a cellphone signal, you can turn your phone off at least. Ranger hut should be used in very poor weather only, however, it gets cold at that altitude whet it's wet Enoy the hike and hope your little girl enjoys the trip!
  11. It's the business on Balau decking, bleaches it it a nice light honey colour
  12. I have a better suggestion that might work... Sand it down, then bleach the top layer with oxilic acid. It will lighten a thin layer of wood which you can seal with varnish or whatever you choose. Later when this get's old, you can cut back through the bleached fibres back into the original colour.
  13. Best laugh I've had this week!
  14. Whoever organised it has a brilliant sense of humour or are completely disconnected from reality! Either way, hmm, you know....
  15. Why would you?
  16. A table saw with multiple jigs is an absolute pleasure. yes, the track saw is great for breaking up sheet goods, but the table saw has so many applications. Look at Makita table saws, I've been working with one for the past 6 years after throwing a Ryobi out. Yes, you need a new fence immediately and the blade insert must be replaced, that being said once you've done that it's yours and to your liking.
  17. Best instructions for beginners
  18. Piet Botha was the man, I attended many of his shows, shared a drink and some conversation with him at a show he did here long time ago. He was down to earth, a true rocker of old that stayed the course! One of the few South Africans that released albums which could be listened to from track one till the last one!
  19. LOL... best chirp about the Soutie gibe recently is the one where the guy replies, you Afrikaans okes flippen put everything in your mouths!
  20. Soutie refers to the derogatory term Soutpiel. That word originated in the 2nd Anglo Boer War due to England's persistance in trying to colonise every nation. They were seen standing with one foot in Africa, the other in England and their dick's/piele hanging in the water, hense Soutpiel and later Soutie.
  21. No 8 ryskaaf ! Pragtig gedoen! I was a skinny kid all my life till I discovered beer, but before then our woodwork teacher used to have quite a laugh when it was my turn to plane the long plants with the No7 or 8. I had to set the depth so shallow to get it going and then had to work hard to get to the line. Now, I can thourgh it around like a champ.
  22. Pau Marfin - yellowwood substitute which worked really nicely. PS: I had to google the spelling, I also always thought "parmafin" was the right spelling.
  23. I notice the comic sans, but when the shoulder is buggered, floating toast is the only other means of finding stoke, then flat we go!
  24. What a stunning human he is!
