  1. I just collected my number and went with my wallet, you know, just in case. I am super-disappointed at the "expo" part of it. Come on guys. MTBers spend loads of loot, so why is nobody there exhibiting and punting their wares? The guys who are there will probably do ok and make some cash: ASG Anatomic Prepsol (Bought a big bottle of bike wash) Thule Some gimmicky electro-massage thing (ok, maybe they won't make any cash) First Ascent selling 94.7 branded stuff Nakd Energy bars (yummy stuff) One or 2 other small okes who I can't remember cos they didn't interest me.... Where are the shops? Where are the importers? Where are the brands? I wanted to see some bike bling, some cool accessories or something interesting. Am I alone in thinking that there's a huge sales opportunity being missed here?
  2. Worst case scenario is that the free hub is wider than the cassette. If so, put a spacer or 2 on the free hub before you put on the cassette. Done it before with a 7-speed cassette onto a 10-spd freehub.

  4. You should be able to if the cassette comes apart like that. Try it and let us know. There should be no spacing or comparability issues as far as I'm aware.
  5. Thanks for the donation of this bike yesterday! Asterix88 brought it over and it's a real blast from the past! Brigestone MB-5 with Exage Sport MTB groupset. It's all-original.
  6. Here's a bike that was donated to my Build-a-Bike initiative yesterday. A mint Bridgestone MB-5. This thing is all-original, even the tyres. What a blast from the past! This thing has hardly ever been ridden in it's 20-something year life.
  7. Anyone else on theHub doing this one? I did it last year and it was pretty awesome. Seems like the route has cghanged quite a bit and will be even better this year. http://advendurance.com/other/gardenroutetrailseries
  8. I'm doing the Trail series race but this looks like fun too!
  9. Looking for a great LBS, especially for workshop-related stuff? Tool-Up Cycles in Midstream is awesome. www.tool-upcycles.co.za I wouldn't let anyone else touch my bike. And before I discovered them, NOBODY was allowed to work on my bike, except me.

  11. I ride in padded MTB baggies that look like shorts and a normal t-shirt most of the time. OK, I wear a helmet and Camelbak too, and proper MTB shoes. My commute is 21km each way, so riding at no-sweat speed would take me all day. I ride hard, ride fast and suffer from SCR. Any cyclist ahead becomes a target and must be passed. I know, I have a problem.
  12. Looks like it's held on by 4 screws. Should be ok to get it replaced if it gets scratched....if lenses are available
  13. just buy the cheap M596 or M615 deores. Less than R1500 for a set. And they work very very well. Hell, at that price, somme buy 2 sets (not that you'll ever need the spare set)
  14. Sounds terminal. You need a new bike.
  15. Hi guys, I have 2x 26ers that are almost ready for donation. But I need some goodies if anyone can assist. I need 2x v-brake front wheels and a v-brake fork. Pretty please! Thanks in advance!
  16. Go and train for a year on a SS, 34x17, then go back to your 1x10. Or just HTFU.
  17. I'm putting on my old and almost smooth Racing Ralph on the back. My Nobby Nic upfront will be cool....
  18. Park for free at Broadacres. Then you also get the best climb in the area for free.
  19. The bike above is now in the classifieds for anyone interested.
  20. Could be your fd is too high or too low
  21. Bang for buck? Inbred or if you want 853 steel, a Cotic Simple. Budget no limit? Something in titanium like Moots, Lynskey or Firefly. Spot Rocker for belt drive. Niner SIR or ROS9 are winners in the mid-price range.
  22. Someone very generous donated an XL Specialized Enduro. It's in perfect working order but I suspect new brake pads are needed. My personal feeling is that this bike would be wasted on a commuter and probably get stolen pretty quickly. I've decided to sell it and use the funds to buy stuff I need to get other bikes ready as well as to assist previous recipients with their bike maintenance replacing worn drivetrain parts like chains and cassettes and also brake pads. I'm open to offers.
  23. When my budget is healthier, the XTR's will be mine. For now though, the Deore 596's are absolutely awesome. damn those XTR's are sexy!
  24. Now I'm nitpicking, but please move the levers up on those bars. just doesn't look right like that!
