  1. Don't do it. The bikes will fall apart. Better to buy some cheapies in the classifieds and fi em up a bit and donate bikes that will last a bit longer, be more reliable, lighter and use standard, easy-to-get parts.
  2. If it's a 19.5in I may have a buyer for you
  3. Thanks for the kind offer! At the moment I am building commuter bikes, so this one's a bit small. I'm sure someone would really appreciate it though.
  4. Cars don't care about you. You have to act as if you are invisible. Even traffic cops don't seem to notice us. To answer your question: ride assertively and make and take gaps where you can. Watch Lucas Brunelle's movie called Line of sight. Ride like that.
  5. I'll take the 18 and 19 and try and pre-ride a bit on Friday and see how the legs feel....
  6. My bikes are 4130 chr mo. Oh wait, thats steel. Oh well.
  7. What cranks and BB do you have? Some initial guesses to a solution: remove pedals and grease threads and re-assemble remove BB, grease threads and reassemble
  8. Even if you can't shower at work, carry clean clothes. Make sure you shower before leaving home and use a good anti-perspirant deo. Wipe-down, dry-off at work and put on the fresh clothes before hitting the office.
  9. hahahahahahaha..... I was at SSWC 2012 and if that's anything to go by.....
  10. First commute on the ROAD SS this morning. I learned that I'm at least 10 minutes faster on the road bike than on the MTB. I learned how those NYC bike messengers feel, playing in the traffic.
  11. Yo. Remove tensioner. Install chain tug. Do it now. That's how I run my inbred with no issues. K.I.S.S
  12. It's a pleasure! Most bike shops have the cheap platform pedals that come on bikes, that they'll sell cheap to you, or even give free. Thanks for collecting the frame! Please keep us updated on the progress!
  13. Just entered and paid. This should be interesting.....
  14. Maiden SS voyage in the Cradle yesterday. 72-odd km later and begging for more. I still have to remove the large chainring and downtube shifters. Super comfy ride and nice and quick compared to the MTB I normally ride. She might even do a bit of commuter-duty. Running 42x18 which seems perfect. Shimano 600 Tri-colour brake levers and calipers, 600 crankset, M540 mtb pedals, San Marco Rolls saddle (wow it's comfy). I need time to build the front wheel that matches - I have a 600 tri-colour 36-hole hub from eBay and some old school mavic rims. Reynolds 500 cro-mo frame tubing means it's not light!
  15. What style dropouts do you have on your frame? Saying you can use a chain tug leads me to believe you have the slot-dropout style, or am I wrong? If so, then it's sacriledge to use a tensioner instead of a tug, just for the pure looks of the thing!
  16. If you can live with aftermarket lenses then search Revant Optics on eBay. Got polarised lenses for my Oakley Antix for a total price including postage and taxes of R386.
  17. CRC order arrived: Zee RD SLX cassette & chain Zee shifter Nukeproof spacers, headset and seat clamp Funn bar and seatpost SLX BB For the wife's Cotic Solaris.
  18. What's wrong with DHL?
  19. No duties. Pay VAT when you collect from the post office.
  20. Happy? No. Satisfied with what I got vs what I paid? Yes. I ended up with a 29er SID RL Dual Air with tapered steerer for R3750. I am also satisfied with how they acknowledged their faults and tried to do what they could to satisfy a customer. I will say that they need to improve their pre-ship quality control and their inventory control systems.
  21. I was preparing to rant, but I can have a lukewarm rave instead. Here's a synopsis of my very recent experience with CWC. Order fork online receive wrong size fork (26v29) call them to rectify the problem - they sent a courier same-day to collect incorrect fork Chatted to the guys, they had oversold the fork I wanted - no stock I asked them to make a plan. They told me they found me a similar fork, I agreed that the fork would work. I received a fork the next day I inspected the fork, it had obviously been on a bike - the steerer was cut and it was a bit grimy. I emailed them expressing my disappointment on receiving a "used/demo" fork as I thought I was buying a new one. They apologised and explained they had no stock and removed a fork from a new bike in the shop for me. I asked for some kind of compensation for the difference between a new vs demo fork. They gave me a voucher for the shop for what I consider a fair value. Was my experience with them great? No. Did they work with me to solve the issues? Yes. My conclusion: **** happens - it's how you deal with it is what matters.
  22. hey guys, I have a need for MTB wheels and tubes please. I have 3 26ers and a 29er that need wheels before \i can donate them. Please assist if you can. Thanks a million!
  23. Finally managed to get a photo of Lovemore who got a bike from us a few months ago. He rides from Tembisa to Lonehill every day.
