  1. Two top of the range bikes - surprised you can't get a test ride. Edit: Comparing your cons: Breaking a frame on the Epic is the end of the race and all the training and costs of entry. R1100 is hardly a train smash in comparison.
  2. "Toadbury hall is just down the road" Towards Malibongwe or the other way?
  3. The flu virus infects the heart muscle.
  4. "So what is the deal with riding when you are ill." I had a colleage who used to be a nurse in cardio. One day a superfit forty year old women is admitted after running with flu. She did not want to screw with her training schedule. She died a short while later - there was nothing the doctors could do.
  5. I emailed them to the email address on their website telling them to pull up their socks and have a look at this thread. The email was 'undelivered' as the email address no longer exists.
  6. "Rather pickup a 6 pack and pizza on the way home. Nothing better for your tired body than slouching on a couch in front of the TV and carbo loading for the week to come..." Problem is after riding with some friends you want to chat etc - maybe the best solution is to bring this thread to the attention of the owner - whoever that is.
  7. Sell a kidney on ebay and buy the Assos. Its worth it.
  8. Had bad service there a couple of times too. There is nowhere near to eat so its best to just suck it up and not lose your patience. p.s. the small teak burger is that good that it is worth the bad service.
  9. If he used EPO then so did everyone else. Still makes him a great athlete. I doubt he used EPO though...would have showed up on tests - especially since they probably have old blood samples they can retest.
  10. "When I see the riders in the TDF changing to this position, I'll look into it." They have a differant objective to many riders here - which could mean that emulating them is not 100% correct for everyone.
  11. Road cycling as a competitive sport makes no sense to me. Either you are doping or you are born with genetically higher levels of V02 or whatever it is that makes you faster. Having a hero in a sport like this is just plain foolish.
  12. Bike mags need sample bike from manufacturers to do a review. So long as mark up on 29'er continues to be ginormous (with the fashion conscious crowd coninuteing to swallow this) no manufacturer in his right mind will ever send a bike mag a 26'er sample.
  13. I use it too. Sometimes it is too comprehensive and you have to wade through pages of fringe and legacy technology to find what is applicable. I find youtube videos to be more useful.
  14. Pardon my ignotance - where is the vlei? MTB or road?
  15. Actually I never tried the Time's. Maybe give those a try.
  16. Tried them all. For ease of unclipping nothing beats Eggbeaters.
  17. how to run tracert start, run, cmd type "tracert www.thehubsa.co.za" it will give you the latency to each server - where the latency increases dramatically or gives a * (a timeout) there lies the problem. Ten to one its not the hub's server but one inbetween.
  18. It seems normal to me. Internet traffic passes through many routes to reach a server - yours is probably going via a rubbish server at the moment. Run tracert if you know how - it will tell you which server is causing the lag.
  19. It was an excellent race. They could improve it by: 1. Better waterpoint spacing. 2. More start groups. 3. Printing the emergency number on your numberboard sticker.
  20. For long rides (say over 40km) go for a DS. The comfort will pay dividends. DS is often faster on descents with bumps.
  21. My wife went through a couple different pedals because of struggling to decleat. She eventually settled on the stainless steel Eggbeaters.
  22. "was my first lionman, finished about 3 minutes before my buddy but he is 17 positions before me?? wtf?" Did you maybe mix up your boards when puttin them on the bike?
  23. "Don't listen to that nonsense about having to buy new, maintenance issues. Mantenance is easy and fun to learn." I maintain my own bikes and it easy and fun to learn. However, it can also be expensive: Many parts are essentially consumable: Chains, cassette, chainrings, BB bearings, brake pads, tyres, fork seals, hubs, headsets. Make sure these things are more unworn than worn when you buy 2nd hand.
  24. "spray your neighbours wives car" Interesting. Would you ask her permission 1st?
  25. Yes - V-Brakes. V-Brakes work fine unless they get wet.
