  1. There was a hippo there. It moved on to Northern Farms for a bit then causing some chaos in Dieplsluit. Have not heard of its whereabouts for about a year now.
  2. You need to toughen up. Cycling is not for sissies. ... jokes aside, the arms and hands hurt because you are putting too much weight on them. It can be bike setup but it could also be the way you are balancing your weight on the bike. Padding on a saddle does not help with prolonged pressure as the padding becomes as hard as rock under your body's weight. Time spent in a saddle makes your ass muscles stronger - sounds suspect, I know.
  3. When we did the Sun City race two years ago we rode through a squatter camp at the beginning. There were a whole lot of Sun city security guys on quads following the riders closely. Not sure if it was for show or there was a real security concern.
  4. I read all its reviews on the interwebs. It requires a frame with chain guides so you can't just stick one on your bike. Additionally, it makes a noise when in one of the cogs. My assessment. Ease using gears 10/10 Increased clearance 10/10 Value for money 1/10 Cool factor 11/10. Weight 5/10 Maintenance? 1/10
  5. Consult Johan Bornman.
  6. If fitness is not an issue then build strength with spinning and interval training (on the road).
  7. I went down and rode the Hilton MTB on the weekend. Km's travelled - 1400. Cost per km in my vehicle. R2 per km. Cost of travel R2800. Add race entry, accomodation, food, etc. I somehow don't think those memberships are expensive at all.
  8. "Ja but the Ford Focus ST comes in orange" I don't think Henry works there anymore.
  9. Yes its smoother. But it will costs over R140o to service and they never frickn have spare parts for its. Buy a spoon instead - better value for money.
  10. My three bibs so far: First Ascent R800: 1/10 - severe abrasion on my arse. The stiching is also cr*p so be prepared to borrow a sewing kit from someone. Giodano R600: 6/10 - cheap but good. Would buy again. Assos: Bought the yellow one thinking dirt would wash out of the coloured section. It does not - it stains. Yellow - 7/10 - Black 10/10.
  11. If it was using SAS boards in which case check their wesite. google SAS timing
  12. Hey Jon - Disc brakes really shine in wet or muddy conditions. V-brakes are probably 90% as good in the dry. Maybe think of upgrading something else or saving the money. If you insist you will need new hubs, rotors and a set of brakes as well as having to get someone to rebuildt your wheels. If the hubs are not combtable with the spokes you will need different length spokes too. In the end, it will probably be better value for money to buy a new set of wheels.
  13. Death or Glory - by the Clash - going back about 40 years here.
  14. Too much matching stuff makes it look like are in pajama's.
  15. My wife suffers from it. Most rides are not a problem but almost every race (MTB)is a big issue at the start with 400+ riders throwing up dust at the start.
  16. I am sure every brand will have one in that price bracket. Check their websites for starters.
  17. Ask them to check stock at the supplier.
  18. I know nothing about road bikes, but what I do know is that bikes are a matter of preference - so use a bike shop who lets you test drive first.
  19. "A worn chain kills the chainrings and rear deraileur jockey wheels. To me it makes much more financial sense to use cheapish chains and replace them frequently. Destroying your whole drivetrain because of a worn chain is crazy - it costs WAY more and you risk having a snapped chain rip you rear deraileur to pieces." I am also tryin this. I bought XT chains for about R200 each on CRC about a year ago. The trick is to rotate them faster but then go back to the old chain once you have no new chains left. The reason for this is a worn chain shapes the teeth of whatever it touches. You should get triple the milage out your drivetrain this way.
  20. Your treachery runs deep.
  21. Maybe try the syrup method. At least if it doesn't work you can make some pancakes and cheer yourself up
  22. This should never happen. There is something wrong with one of the components. Either you have the wrong tubes, tires or rims. Since you have replaced the tubes a few times I am going to say the tires are probabbly wrong. Not all tires are the same size. On my bike I have the opposite problem - tires I can't get onto the rim because they are too small. Your's might be the opposite problem. Edit: When I say not all tyres are the same size I mean not all 26" tyres are the same size - they differ from brand to brand and even tyre to tyre.
  23. When you get the bike - check that the items listed as standard spec are still on the bike. Friend of mine got his bike and the Fizik Gobi had mysteriusly changed to Golden Lion Special.
  24. Seriously. I don't know anyone who owns a motor bike who hasn't crashed it. Some of them are dead, so, strictly speaking, I don't know them anymore.
  25. Surely it should be called DOWNHILL Mountain Biking Championships?
