  1. On Postnet,. Why is it when purchasing from a Hubber some charge R99 per item and some charge R120 for the same item. Postnet say it should have cost R99 so I guess there is some "Transport" or "mark-up" involved?
  2. The answer is definitely yes on all accounts except purchasing an ebike. Don't do it, they are overpriced for what you can do yourself for your purpose. If you you can wield a spanner it is CONSIDERABLY cheaper to convert your bike. I did it and would NEVER go the new route. I also would not convert a Makro bike though.
  3. Don't play with some of the other stuff around. The last thing you want is rack failure! Grant is expensive but you get what you need and a PROPER rack.
  4. Have you tried the DX pedals? They seem to contradict what has been said above? I have been using the for years and years without any of the above. They are a comfort pedal for me.
  5. Wheelbuilder or David Marshal on the Hub. Used them both.
  6. I have used this since its inception. Used on 45mm tyres on a road/off road bike and have had no,zero, ziltch issues. I find it better than the other types I have used and far better than than the Cape Town milk which everybody seems to prefer. (Must be a KZN thing) Finding stock can be an issue as it flies off the shelves.
  7. Garmin SA are seriously problematic! I purchased a 1030, used it twice and WITHIN a year it packed up (GPS/ALT issue and intermittent switching off) Garmin SA said I must get a new one! The shop from where I purchased it managed to get a new replacement from the factory overseas. True story.
  8. I have done this route with a loaded road bike with no problem. Trucks were a problem on the other side of Mooi River but I guess you are not going any further. The tourists are more of a problem but all in all, a great ride even though the road is not that wide????
  9. Slow touring 125kms/day fully loaded for several days. I try not to ride hard if possible🙄
  10. Jeukendrup's hydration recipe: ½ cup maltodextrin 6 ½ tsp fructose ¼-½ tsp table salt I have used this for years and it has never failed me. Plain water until about midday and then only this drink mixed as above until you stop riding. All products available locally and works out as cheap as chips. It works for me.
  11. Jeukendorf mixture is all I have used on long rides for many years. Cheap and effective for me.
  12. I did a home conversion with motor I purchased from eBike Cafe in Johannesburg for FAR less than some of the figures quoted here. Have not had a moments problem and do about 2000kms/month with panniers and sometimes without. It is not worth replacing the battery in my car with all the fun I have on my bike, rain or shine
  13. I have unfortunately reached the stage where my days of bicycle touring are over and am considering going the motorcycle route. (Still trying to come to terms with this) Therefor, my complete touring bike, fittings and all (three sets) panniers, spare wheels, extra racks, spare, etc, etc, is up for sale. I have retrofitted an electric motor to assist me but this can easily be changed back and sold. All my cycling and touring gear, Redshift stem, spare creek seatpost, tyres, Dynamo hub and Son light complete with Electric splitter, Jones bars etc, etc, etc, too much to mention. This just might not be what you are looking for though.
  14. As Morne says. I have the same setup with a Brooks. no complaints and....I am old and grumpy.
  15. My 2c worth on the subject of ventilation. I have done a bit of airflow ventilation in my time in basic remote conditions. A black pipe through the wall from floor to higher than the gutter would create a natural airflow due to hot air rising and pipe getting hot. Put it opposite the entry point of the outside air air and remember one important factor, air takes the shortest route. Paint 110/90mm pvc pipe matt black and puta cover 9even a venturi fan on it. Cover entry with mesh. Evaporative cooling can also be used effectively in such dry conditions as your. Hot air rises so you could consider throughflow or opening in the roof (Saw tooth effect) Use the paper/smoke method to see how well it works. As I said, my 2c.
  16. Ravager and Rambler are much of a muchness for my rides.
  17. I have not found a glue which hold properly onto the Varia. I used a self tapper with a tether (SS fishing trace) into the one corner and all is good. There is also a screw which holds the back rubber cover on and this I have used on my newer Varia. I too don't trust bands
  18. Another "small trip" ..................🙄
  19. Yip, the one and only. Been to most places Dusty has.
  20. Ping Dusty here on the Hub. He is never at home, always camping out. He WILL be able to help.
  21. Gooday Admin I am unable to read my messages if they are longer than two lines. I do not seem to be able to scroll down enough to see the complete message, seems to be cut off? The pane is not big enough to show the whole message and I am unable to increase it? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks
  22. Varia, Flea and Flare. Trust me, used during Durban floods and more.
  23. Has anybody tried the Jeukendorf (Sp) drink? Any coments?
