  1. Thank you all, 242 is the number I forgot👍
  2. I have done a search here and only come up with the colour of the Loctite. What is the number of the blue loctite we use on the nuts and bolts? For the love of me I have just gone blank. Thanks
  3. Thanks Robert. What are you asking for the RD? (9sp Shimano XT 7500)?
  4. Hi Robert If you are left with the 9sp Shimano 750 RD please let me know? Thanks.....
  5. @copperhead My favourite place. H as H I bet! Jealous to say the least. Just love your pics.
  6. My take........... +5000 kms on my touring eBike - Planet X London Road Converted using existing parts and sold the frame (Trek Superfly) Costs have been minimal apart from initial outlay. Drive train - 9sp with XT rear derailleur - Used existing Sram chain (done about 4000kms) Still good as I get approx 7000kms/chain. Well cared for and only oil used. Never change under load and use the run-off to change gears. Thumbie changer and gears are slick so minor wear. - Lekkie 36T chainring. Expensive but saves the motor etc. Brakes - Shimano 7000 with metal pads. These seem to last longer. Resin are cheap enough and do the job just as well but only last 1000km the way I ride - conservatively. Tyres - Use the cheapest/good tyres I can buy. Using Spes Armadillo, Rambler and CSK at the moment. Less knobblies the longer they last. Replaced my set after 2000kms unless they were ripped. Do single track once per month otherwise gravel mostly and some tar. Battery - Custom made R8000 and I get about 70kms with panniers riding conservatively. Suspension - Have a Cane Creek post and Redshift stem. Is it needed? Bike service - Do it myself properly except for spokes. Have bust three spokes on standard wheels. Custom wheels with many spokes take the torque much better. I do not have a high powered bike, what for? My bike is heavy. Motor service - easy to grease and replace bearings. Have not had to replace bearings etc as of yet. Very little to go wrong. Basic motor, basic controller, no turbo, less to go wrong. Unable to cost the difference between an aspirated bike and this eBike but would certainly not have done this mileage or done/seen places with a normal bike - priceless. I ride every day, rain (never had a problem) or shine and use my bike for transport, shopping, visiting, getting vaccinated etc and have done 300kms in my car during the same period. I don't drive to ride, at all and prefer to ride to the venue.. Neither do I like to pay to ride my bike. Would I do it again? Yes, most definitely. Should have done it earlier. Having a busted hip does not hamper me and can still mix it with the youngsters. The rewards are far more than what is expected. My opinion anyway, thought I would throw it in.
  7. Great welding! Top Notch!
  8. Have a couple lying about but I am in Durban. As a matter of interest, what is the length of that rear skewer? I am looking for a super long skewer as spare for my Old Man rack.
  9. Hairy, you asked........herewith in shopping mode
  10. There done! Sounds like a butterfly in slippers. Good for another few thousand kms.
  11. Graham at eBike Cafe in Jhb. Tried the Squirrel guys in your area but they are either too busy or were not prepared to help. Garvin only interested in new bike sales which meant I would forfeit my expensive seatpost and stem/bars, thumbies. So much cheaper to convert your own bike and keep existing components instead of having parts and wheels etc included and then lying about afterwards. Biggest problem is your BB width. Once you know that and the ID, you can order spacers if need be. Ebike worked that all out for me based on photos. The rest is plain and simple. Really it is! Tips - big enough spanner to tighten BB lock ring, HD rubber under motor against frame (if needed) Gear cable routed through a piece of outer cable to prevent squashing, have the motor tuned down and definitely fit a 36T NW Lekkie ring as this saves motor, legs and allows more distance/charge, more spokes in the rear wheel (torque), fabricate a DECENT mounting bracket on the frame to hold the battery and secure with a strap for extra safety = rivnut. One of the best experiences I have had whilst cycling. I have seen places I would never seen only because I am on an ebike. I am able to go the extra mile and see what is on the other side of the hill and not worry about the effort involved. My opinion anyway. Contact me if you need more info. Just do it! You will thank me later.
  12. 500W Truckrun motor WITHOUT all the paraphernalia (boost, clutch thingy, windy-windy, hooter, usb, compass. drinks holder etc,,etc etc, etc) Plain simple motor with most basic controller and with 9 power stages which have been set right down to the lowest I was told.
  13. After +5000kms on my home fitted motor I thought it was time for a service. Still looks new inside although a tad dry. What I like about this motor- Easy peasy to install and service Much cheaper than buying an eBike Customisable - extra distance on the battery No need for extras to make a new bike suit your needs Fit, charge and ride.
  14. Done. Thank you. Will give it a test. Something more to play with. Might prove interesting?
  15. Nothing like a night ride before curfew to get rid of the Christmas pud
  16. At the docks. My old working environment in my previous life. (have no idea why the vessels look as though they are sinking)
  17. Seriously, those two horses (Welsh pony) look very much like the ones I once owned. Gelding upfront and a young filly which was too young to ride at the time but both grew up together. Tame as heck! Takes me back. (could be mistaken though?)
  18. My Suunto Ambit watch strap has gone and bust again. These straps suck big time. Any suggestions where to get a replacement? Originals can cost 1K and they don't last. Any idea of an alternative strap replacement method?
  19. Sorry to hear Rob. Was it locked? Which area as this is my hood as well?
  20. How does one actually know if the item is still available???? I don't have the facility to ask a complete question as it is cut off at the bottom of the page. Same as for the reply. Very difficult to correspond via Hub messaging. Old system was WAY better. Prefer all correspondence in writing .....old school.
  21. What a loss of a true champion fighter. Many lessons learnt. Much sympathy to all concerned. Damn!
  22. Humvee?
  23. Might be of interest......somebody might have tried it previously. I plugged a large puncture in a tubeless tyre and after a while it started to leak again. The tyre was still in good nick so decided to MacGyver it as I had nothing to repair it with, or so I thought. I opened the tyre and squirted some Alcolin over the leaking plug and worked it into the leak and the plug fell out. I let it congeal for a bit, added about 60ml Alcolin to the sealant and pumped up. After 600kms the hole is still sealed and all is good. Maybe the tyre will be difficult to remove ????
  24. I agree with the Chilled problem in Cape Town \. Have you tried eBike Café in Joburg. Speak to Graham. One of the most understanding person in the eBike game. Got my motor etc from him and did my own installation, Piece 'o Pie. and have never looked back.
