  1. A week ago I was telling all and sundry how great my North Wave shoes are and that I will never wear anything else. Well a week is a long time and this morning it ripped really badly. What I liked about them was that they are quite wide in the fore foot. I am in need of new shoes. They must be wide in the front. Price is not really a problem. Any recommendations?
  2. Important bit I missed. I just want to finish comfortably.
  3. I have been fortunate enough to get a Epic entry. Some background: I have been cycling for many years, I have done 4 Sani2C races with my Epic partner and we ride very well together. I am riding currently but not a lot. I run or go to gym 6 days a week. I have trained for and completed IM twice so I know how to put in many hours a week. My question is this: 1. how much training a week for Epic? 2. When do I hit peak training? 3. Should I invest (paid for plan) in a training plan specific for Epic? Thanks
  4. I have decided on the Edge 800. Now I can not find one. I live in the north of Joburg. Anybody knows where I can get one?
  5. Have not ridden the Tallboy. I have ridden a Evolve for 2 years now and it is by far the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. What MTB August edition rate these 2 bikes the best 29 er full suspension bikes available so I guess you can not go wrong.
  6. Thanks for all the advice. It seems the Garmin is the way to go. Question now is Edge 500 or Edge 800?
  7. I am looking for a new computer. Mostly mountain bike. But some road as well. I am not really worried about cadence but might consider it. Heart rate and the other obvious data is important. I had a look at Polar and Garmin and they both look nice. Garmin obviously have quite a few more things and the gps makes it easily interchangeable between bikes. Any advice? Models as well please.
  8. I have not been on the forum for a bit ( also not been riding). I am back on the bike and the enjoyment is also back. Question: what helmet must I buy? I don't mind spending a bit of money and want something really light and with enough vents. I do mostly mountain biking.
  9. I've got a 27.2mm Gravity Dropper. It workes very well but I eventually took it out because it does not really work for the flattish riding I mostly do.
  10. I am riding this combination on my 29er. It works well, the only thing that ever bothered me is the Mountain King at high speed seems to affect control of the bike. It felt that the bike wanted to steer itself. I am going to go Race King back and front next.
  11. Not going to enter. After 4 years it is time for something new. A lot of my mates feel the same, so there is hope for the guys on the waiting list.
  12. I can confirm that I just had the best service from Juan. He serviced my bike so well and cleaned it better than new after Sani. So much so that I am to scared to ride and dirty it. Just really great service this far.
  13. This is MTB. We do the ride through Golden Gate every year on our ride to Durban. Start day 3 in Clarens and go to Winterton, going past Sterkfontein dam. The first part from Clarens through the reserve is the best part of the tour.
  14. Anybody know if there are any good mtb rides in Clarens? I will be there for a few days and want to do 3 loooooong rides TryBoy2010-01-14 08:42:22
  15. I am looking at putting Conti's on my 29er. I have a few questions: 1. Race King back and Mountain King front? 2. How good are the side walls, do the cut? 3. How good are the tires themselves, do they cut? 4. Do they convert to tubeless easily? Thanks for the help.
  16. Who is the distributor for Rudy Project helmets?

    29er tires

    Mutt, what did you get?

    29er tires

Thanks, for this. What combinations do you ride front and back?
  19. I am urgently looking for a set of 29er tires. Either GEAX or Conti. (or any other sensible suggestion) I live in Northern JHB, so if you can point me to a bike shop. Thanks
  20. I've had my Ellsworth Evolve 29er for 1.5 years now. Before that I rode a Spez Epic. There is no way I will ever go back to a 26er. The way the 29er rolls over rocks and through ruts have taken my cycling to a new level. The argument that they are not as nippy do not really hold any water. The center of gravity on my 29er is lower than on the Epic, so it sure does feel more sure footed. The only disadvantage I can see is acceleration, but that is neglible and does not matter for the type of riding I do. When I got mine there were not a big choice in tires but that problem has also been sorted out. So for me the answer is simple: 29ers is the way to go.
  21. Thanks. It still looks like Sabie. I know lots of routes there.
  22. I was thinking about Sabie, but something new and closer would be nice.
  23. I am looking for a place to go out of JHB for a weekend of Mtbiking. Any suggestions? Need to have 3 good routes.
  24. Ellsworth without a doubt. It is like a BMW, once you have ridden one you will not look at anything else again.
  25. Set the recording interval to less frequent. Can not remember how though.
