  1. They are the same, just different paint schemes. That said, in the hardtail category there are differences among the models. Wheel size, geo/top tube etc...
  2. Steyn City in all it’s contrasts.
  3. Incorrect actually, by definition at most it = a moped.
  4. We access the forums, for free. There’s a classifieds, for free. There’s a variety of content, for free. Nothing costs as much as ‘free’ ... the level of projection and entitlement over freely accessing material is almost a joke. Not specifically on this thread perse, but it is a good microcosm.
  5. FYI for anyone interested, selling my trusty Alpinestars Drystar 4in1. Not being used and just gathering dust. Feel free to message me direct! https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1554833068231631/
  6. Heart breaking messages from Yana Belomoina 🇺🇦. Such a talent beyond her years with exceptional performances at at both XCO and stage events like ABSA Cape Epic. Her world is completely upended 😔 https://www.instagram.com/p/CaWp1cYoi23/?utm_medium=copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/CadFpSRqmQs/?utm_medium=copy_link
  7. The brand return on the event carries more value in the German/Euro market than SA. Cape Epic has a massive fan base in Germany. Besides, South Africa has an unbelievably brand saturated market.
  8. Platt on a Bulls and Sauser on a Specialized. Songo.info will be a beneficiary. Nothing unusual, many a team pairing past and present with different bike sponsors. Like Lill and Strauss, Cannondale and Giant.
  9. Prey much. Although the assertion on the supplements aren’t entirely correct. As already covered. Also, just about all the supplement brands will not suggest fat burners for sports. Especially today.
  10. I think the problem is that we cast the issues with doping as a big wide net. Given Grave’s detailed breakdown, it isn’t unreasonable. Even WADA make allowances based on contamination/trace amounts. It’s not just supplements that can pose a risk, but much of what we ingest. Especially considering how processed and industrialised a lot of food is. It wasn’t that long ago that WADA issued a warning notice on excessive glenbuterol in beef products from some regions. The supplement with RECM wasn’t made separately from the sponsor. The sponsor themselves brought specific ranges into the Safe/True Sport programme and then further separated designated product to be tested again. In case of cross contamination. This is true of almost ALL supplement brands, regardless of nationality. Because they’re made in the same environment where medicines are made.
  11. Not all anti doping cases correlate into intent and scale though. https://revolutionmtb.com.au/world-exclusive-the-jared-graves-interview/
  12. Had one of the first ebikes in SA for testing some time back. Specialized Levo, took it to Thaba for a few laps. KOMs and trophys everywhere, up and down. Left it like that on Strava before setting it as an ebike ride. Oh the fun.
  13. Ja, except some of the automotive/factory ones. Oke thought he’d go by ‘feel’ because he apparently couldn’t get a reading. Mid ride the shock was pap like vleis. Stans in an air can is first class. This is why we have child proof lids!
  14. Where abouts will you be operating from? If Bedfordview area, then perhaps have a space and tools available.
  15. Check with the PEMBIs (Pretoria East Mountain Bikers) on FB - https://www.facebook.com/groups/134361270058168/
  16. Can easily blow/damage the seals with a car pump and especially an air compressor. Shocks house a lot of pressure for the volume space. Seen people bring in forks/shocks for a rebuild from all kinds of hack, my fave being on that used a C02 ...
  17. Aii Charity ride for the SAPS widows and orphans fund. Weekend missions in The Cradle, bikes and banter. Always best.
  18. Supersport pay for and run the RBTV feed, verbatim. They don't purchase broadcast rights or fulfill any production work. They buy the to broadcast over their airtime which is sold onto advertisers. We should grateful that DSTV make the commitment they do with cycling airtime. Very few broadcasters in the world give as much airtime to the range of cycling we have access to.
  19. Most hassle free, experiment with a strip or two of insulation tape on the bar area, then liberally spray the grip and bars with hairspray, pop on and leave to dry. Haven't had a failure yet on my bikes or others. One reason why grips tend to rotate is from bike washing, soap etc work their way in there. Event bike washes are the worst for this as the washers soak the grips, hand wring them and then power spray. Looks all shiny and clean, until the grip starts to lose grip and the grip compound breaks down from excessive washing.
  20. Quite a few good alternatives out there. Supercaz, Titan, Momum and one or two others.
  21. Ok I will outright say this is an absolutely moronic stereotype to make. Perhaps take a look at your own attitude here. I'll let my mate know, looks perfectly healthy, strong and at least 10 years younger than his 60 odd years let on. However a heart attack with a double bypass means he can no longer ride over a certain HR, otherwise tickets. An e-bike gave him a new lease on life, literally. But according to half the comments here he'd be slagged off. The problem very clearly does not lie with ebikes.
  22. To be fair you were projecting a fair bit. In anycase, in point of fact it's well established that events do in fact have separate categories, starts and times. Anyone cheating this by whatever means would also be the kind of character to cheat some other way. In that case it's a matter of dealing with the individual. Not a goose step all out ban as suggested in the OP.
  23. The correlation with motorbikes is patently stupid. At a stretch a more accurate description would be a moped, even then not accurate by a long shot. There is room for participation at timed events, and if it means a family or couple are able to safely enjoy it together, then great. A separate fun cat for ebikes, also cool. W2W have two cats, a fun cat that starts at the back and a race cat that starts before everyone, seems to work well. Of all the challenges at events, ebikes aren't even a blip on the radar of problems, just people who individually feel out of joint. Maybe take a race licence then and see how you go.
  24. Ok this is a silly analogy. Just report the cheaters and make peace with the fact that where cycling "events" have a seperate ebike category. Honestly bud, outside of the licenced groups it makes zero difference. It's about participation, and I'd rather see that than have some heavy handed ban.
