  1. Has anyone seen the price of cars and fuel lately.
  2. I covered that tour in 2017/2018. Amazing what they accomplish in that space and they can teach us a few things about rolling road closures, SA should be sending more youngsters to that race as part of their development/training imho. Also Africa's oldest cycle tour for just over 30 years.
  3. PWC Bikepark? Otherwise Thaba, Taroko and Huddle Park may be options, especially if you have an annual pass.
  4. Also their own rear shock. Had two, the last one with an RST fork. Had to warranty my frame and after a lot of back track ended up moving to a Giant ATX 990.
  5. Axis is another in house entry level brand formed under Probike, before Pb became Scott Sports Africa. Although the product manager/designer are now at Rush Sports and are responsible for the Signal and Apex ranging. cSixx components do various parts and wheelsets etc. South rims "Handgemaak" PocPac Sox and Versus both do ranges of styled socks and both have expanded internationally with their offerings. Smoove and Squirt lube products, also with and overseas presence.
  6. It was founded by a South African, employing German/South Africans. The head office and base of operations have moved to Germany, they do have some presence in Cape Town. Silverback has never manufactured here, nor has Avalanche. Momsen have a split tier of manufacturing on their higher end carbon bikes and prototyping.
  7. Momsen design their own bikes, and while Victor the designer/founder has emigrated, the brand itself is still based in SA. Silverback moved their base of operation to Germany, they themselves claim "German engineering" There's more to a brand than just the geographic nature of manufacture.
  8. Best may be to actually research pricing beforehand.
  9. Pon/Dorel deal leveraging greater consolidation and control. Will be interesting to see how this rolls out in outlier markets such as ZA. For the US the message is clear, theres another big player among Trek, Specialized and Giant. Also can't help but wonder about the effects on Merida in Europe. https://www.bike-eu.com/production/nieuws/2021/10/new-cannondale-assembly-site-in-europe-operational-u-s-facility-opening-next-year-10141549
  10. Can also buy direct from the distributors - https://www.vivovitasport.com/?fbclid=IwAR2B20QSACH5889YRnf_zO1Hxy_liVLNRY1i44fojpNWeb36jx1wecCJ_lk
  11. I reckon it would make a great gravel/all rounder rim. A while back I had 650b ZTR Crests laced to Stans hubs on a Momsen 650b hardtail, loved that wheelset, and bike. It held up through plenty riding and two seasons of XCO provincials, nationals and even a ballies World Champs. If they're 29r they definitely would have gone onto my gravel bike.
  12. Approaching for the gram levels!
  13. Reminds me of the Cradle Trail MTB loop. It's an open access directional mountain bike trail. Have had one or two close calls with both trail runners and motorbikes and each time when these folk have been politely, yet firmly called out, is telling. There will always be 'that person' ... I think with the popularity increase in outdoor activities this will be a more regular occurrence. Part of the double edged sword with more people getting outdoors, it does also represent an opportunity to invest more in outdoor code and etiquette education. As well as more planning of dedicated route builds amongst shared areas. Will help mitigate much of the problems faced.
  14. Ditto, even amongst the ruins with a bit more care. Add in the gravel/tar road sections and it's an absolute blast. Also a good environment to test the limits on gravel bikes and various setups.
  15. WBR and Qhubheka still operate as stand alone entities, including much of the funding. WBR has office space in Cape Town, the two collaborate and there may be cross funding/subsidisation facilitated by WBR. It's also very likely they compliment each other where need be. While the metric measurement details aren't known. Brand wise Qhubeka has a larger footprint than WBR, largely thanks to the team who have been a big driver behind the programme's and opened up a lot of opportunities for the programme. Anthony from Qhubeka is an astute businessman and equally astute on social justice programmes, he's well versed in communicating the tangible benefits of Qhubeka.
  16. No pink circle/skrawl? You've changed, who are you even?
  17. Qhubeka still carries an association with WBR as far as I know?
  18. From what I remember is the porcupine ridge trails uses a concrete water level crossing? Guessing that at a certain level the crossing would be too deep to ride/wade. When we went over it was partially under water, about 30cm at the deepest part. Although there was a collapsed bit that was at least a metre or so deep, which led to a comical otb for a mate. Karmic for riding a fatbike, some would say.
  19. Well yes and no. Titan own their design and there's significant differences to the Swift/Sense, plus Titan's design office (The Forge) is based in Bellville Cape Town. That link actually shows us the correlation between Swift Carbon under the new Brazilian ownership of Sense Bikes, which is around the same time as the buyout and take over of all models and designs. The poster of the images, Gabriel Delfino, is a designer/product manager for them. Mark Hopkins from cSixx in CT has also provided design/prototyping consulting to them in the past.
  20. Another recent entry to the local carrier market is Peruzz, made in and exported from Italy. Pricing is pretty spot on and the quality/design is appreciably up there with the likes of the Swedes. The distributor ended up clearing all the stock to retailers and have had to put in another order. *disclaimer, am doing some baseline work with the local guys.
  21. Around a year without regular/proper income after two lines of business sunk, happiness is relatively relative ... ????
