  1. So technically anyone else bringing in the same or similar lights with the same ISO/BVQI etc standard, should also pass muster? Good to you're taking steps like this though. I wish the manufacturers of plugs, multi plugs, adapters would also follow suit.
  2. The old adage of wheel size for rider height/size is largely incorrect. As mentioned already, look at the riding experience you enjoy and then your size. Height is a very rough guess, have your inseam and reach measured first. It'll give you a far better idea what to work with regarding sizing around whichever wheel size. I know riders who are on an XS full suspension 29r and they're happier, due to the riding they do. The converse can also be true. Don't worry too much about what the pros/race snakes are riding, their requirements are different to what most need. There's a lot of information out there, it makes things a bit more intimidating for prospective buyers, conversely it also means you are more able to buy something off the shelf that works for you. As opposed to what was available previously. It's really difficult to actually buy a bad bike. To summarise; - Type of riding you enjoy - Experience - Sizing - Setup Should determine what you'll enjoy the most. Above all though, enjoy your ride.
  3. from the tribute issue last year ... be warned, long read. http://www.treadmtb.co.za/burry-stander-tribute-farewell-legend/
  4. Even a 26r tube will work.
  5. Heres a schedule of events across the country. May well be updated. http://www.treadmtb....l-rides-roster/ Cape Town details added. Stellenbosch, Knysna and Klerksdorp details added. Ballito start and finish changed from Concept Cyclery to Holla Trails.
  6. Specialized had every right to protect themselves. Their method was completely wrong though. Cafe Roubaix rightly felt aggrieved, but wether consciously or unconciously, they were not entirely without blame either. What happened is nothing most us have gone through, unless we're all so infallible somehow? Sinyard and Dan have made up and put it out there. That pretty much makes anyone's else's vitriol irrelevant, no matter which of the two partys it's aimed at, and ironically just as much a bullying mindset. That only thing that's relevant is going for a ride.
  7. Strobe lights, especially on the front, also help a hell of a lot in traffic, far more than 'visible' clothing. In my experience anyhow.
  8. Absolutely, if I need to get across lanes or go around obstacles like double parked cars etc. And if traffic is moving, indicate my movement/direction and not assume the driver/s assume where I'm going. What grates me on a road like Jan Smuts, is riding on the left and having some twat on my wheel riding a scooter. Additionally, if traffic is backed up there is no way a motorbike should be going faster than a bicycle between lanes, the speeds should correlate.
  9. I know about the different formats thanks. Agreed on them not going too far with the technical stuff, but this is a World Cup event. Would venture though that the course is on the limit for sure.
  10. Since when is XCO mass participation? The field gets strung out pretty quickly. Difficult to get an idea of that course, the fish eye accentuates everything. Looks flippin wicked though.
  11. **** him and his 'skills' ...
  12. So if one person collects for example 50 numbers and it takes maybe an hour, there should instead be one person for every number, because a longer queue of 50 people for 50 numbers will be faster?
  13. On top of the others mentioned already, Richard Durrant, CSA/MTBSA Commissaire at most current races. Been around since the beginning, RMBC days at the Honeydew Quarry. Ken Davies Barry 'Doc' Oertel Maybe biased but, Sean Badenhorst Wesley Fowler Herman & Susanna Mills The Slabberts Nick & Crispien Brien Michelle Lombardi Village Cycles Eric Scheepers etc etc etc et al
  14. Ya the route needs to be adressed, as well as the number of entries and seeding. Who knows, maybe have three or four sections of singletrack through the same section if it's possible. Would give a whole new dimension as well as alleviating the issue. It's difficult with 7000 riders, but therein lies the problem. There simply cannot be bottlenecks lasting upto two hours, it balls up the whole seeding and more importantly the spirit of riding. That's not a race, ride or an event, it's a lemming run. Still, it's the same issue year on year, so by now anyone entering should be aware of it and make peace with it.

  16. There are local importers for X-Fusion, no experience with their dropper posts. Although they do seem to be very well received. Have ridden a couple of their forks, most recently on the Bergamont Threesome which is a 650b trail bike. And I have to say, the X-fusion fork really is great. A nice progressive stroke and straightforward to setup. Think a lot of it has to do with Doug Bradbury going over there, he was one of the pioneers of Manitou way back when.
  17. Yeah the prize money is pretty abysmal when in comparison to what the budget and ROI must be! No doubt it's an incredible spectacle and the athletes command huge respect. But fark, the time a life is lost for the sake of more $$ and views, we haven't really progressed further than the days of gladiators.
  18. WTB sense (I think) with WTB spokes laced to Hope hubs. 5k give or take, speak to Jason at International Trade.
  19. Post of the year award Cap. A bold and relevant article. Mitchell Scott's words along with visuals from Sterling Lorence and the like provide a unique insight.
  20. What if you gooi a blou pillitjie in the reservoir to stop it from flopping
  21. Oh snap, have an identical set on my faithful steed... best upgrade i've made in a while!
  22. Price is also one thing, which when it comes to OEM spec on bikes and you want to buy aftermarket. Pricing is very difficult to bring down competitive levels. Although the arrival of X-Fusion forks is encouraging, damn good forks at the price. Doug Bradbury has had a good influence there, he was the Manitou man back in the day. Sadly his departure from Tomac bikes also meant they eventually went under ... Now there was a bike. One that was never done true service by local suppliers either.
  23. That mannequin, she sure made a dummy out of me!
  24. Good for them, sure it'll grow into something and it's a great start. Plenty enough potential. As usual there will probably be the snide whining. Sometimes I wonder with riders being so bitchy, it might be better for them to open a book club and knitting circle. Or maybe get involved be proactive and build it into something.
