  1. I've ripped a sidewall on Gatorskins before. Had to walk my bike home. Enough said.
  2. Thanks. Yeah I'm happy with the roads below the N4. Those are void enough (of shacks/etc) to be relatively safe. Will take a looksie at the more northern routes with someone.
  3. I've been trying to get hold of them since Saturday... nothing
  4. Thanks Helpmytrap. How safe are those routes though? I've only ever ridden between the N4/Boschkop down to Garsfontain. I usually go riding on my own.
  5. Has anyone ridden the trail recently? With all the palisades coming up over the last two years I've noticed most of the Moraleta trails are gated off. http://www.natureunexplored.com/routes/Moreleta%20Spruit/Moreleta.gpx Found this on a website, but those holes are fixed/gated now.
  6. Cool thanks. The Queenswood side is a bit far from me, but will put the bits above Boschkop on my gps and check it out.
  7. Yeah, shoes are 40% since it falls under clothing/textiles. Shoes and helmets are rarely worthwhile to import yourself, unless it's on a major special.
  8. Ooh, some routes to look at. I've only really done the Railroad route (from ~RoseMary Hill down to Witpoort) The Bashewa bit, you mean if you go through the plot roads and you take that little staircase climb from the plots through to behind the Excel garage? Will you maybe be able to indicate the trails (or at least their entry and exit points) on a map? This now the Avondzon, etc etc trails.
  9. Easily My Rudy Projects (ImpactX lenses) fell 40cm off my bed onto the floor the other day and got a 3cm scratch. Compare this to the normal Rudy Project lenses I had in my old Rudy Projects that scratched just as easily. The big factor though that makes it worthwhile is it's guaranteed never to break (for MTB'ing this is probably a must).
  10. I used them a few months ago. I ordered at 7am (they open at 9). Product was shipped from their warehouse at 12, via Royal Mail (since the item wasn't that expensive) and it arrived quickly. Only delay was due to SAPO striking.
  11. Indeed, it would have been interesting to see a runaway winner to the tour.
  12. I also had a nice conversation about the Pinarello I bought last week. He even sounded sceptical that I bought it. "Last week? You bought a Pinarello last week?" Hope you get enough sleep so you can go riding at 6
  13. Telkom Closer (1300 peak minutes, unlimited off-peak)
  14. Think I'm on call number 12 now
  15. Sigh. On a good note, it is fun noticing how annoyed their voices get when you call them 20 times in 5min
  16. They're back again? Hmm. Seems whatsisname from last time should jump onto them again.
  17. Yes. What you should ask, is for semi-technical routes in the pretoria east region. Maybe then someone will share. I don't know of any myself, though. Groenkloof does that for me
  18. Theoretically it should be declared released by tomorrow. Maybe Monday or Tuesday. But then again it's Customs and they take as long as they take.
  19. Not a bad price at all! But add the shipping and it's the same price as I pay instore
  20. Maglites were the bomb back in the day. Now it's just a useful knopkierie. They should put some extra effort into their LED tech.
  21. During a ride I got whacked by a bee on my lip, a few years ago. Thereafter I learnt to carry some bee-sting pills with me. I'm also allergic to bees and this is the only condition (since they contain cortisone) under which I will break the anti-doping rules (yes, in the TDF it happened 3/4 years ago that a bunch of guys got stung and they couldn't even get treated for the bee-stings). But yeah, glad you are taking precautions. It affects you really really quickly so there's little time to react.
  22. Eina. Yeah I've had some annoying experiences too (with the software).... spend half an hour carefully plotting a route (using plotting points and not auto routing).... and then something crashes in the API and I have to start over. The device works relatively fine though, no real complaints about it.
  23. Check the heading. Guys who have an interest in, in this case, cycling, won't make up a heading like this. "bicycle wheelset" ? Seriously? (Also, the guy's from Brakpan. Enough said) And yeah, The above applies, but only if the guy claims it's a photo. Lots of guys use manufacturer images. 2012 Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate Bicycle Wheelset
  24. Broke my scapula (shoulder) in a crash with a car.... 8 years ago. It's still a moany SOB that aches at times. I don't think it ever really gets sorted.
  25. With that same argument you can tell roadies to wear helmets. I've seen enough facial fractures/ jaws being broken on the road.... mine included. Now why don't you try ride for 6h in the sun with a fullface helmet and try to hydrate and eat and chat to your mates?
