You should try riding more varied routes, your mind will soon change. With that ratio, you are either an 80's ex pro (they had nothing else) or you ride downhill most of the time. Not many people ride a 54 on a road bike - you must be very fast!

Well, I have always ridden 53/39 and 12-25. I have a heavy bone structure I bought a new bike recently and did the maths. a 50/11 is a stronger gear than a 53/12 and the compact allows me to climb most hills. People should not diss a compact so easily. I opted for a compact and have not regretted it. to the OP - you ratios seem fine for the intended riding.

OK, on a serious note. Zork - CRC's turnover is in the region of £200m (if I remember correctly). They are probably one of the biggest retailers in cycling. It is Stelvio Pass - 23odd km and roughly 1550m of ascent, 46 switchbacks. We only have Saturday morning :-)

AEBRO, what is your usual helmet size? It might make you feel better if you know the Catlike helmets are big, really big. I use a medium in all other brands but a small Catlike. There is a chance that it would be too big for you anyway.
