  1. Suppose it depends on what your goals are, but I trained for Ironman earlier this year and 90% of my bike training consisted of 2x60 min rides to and from work everyday... Eddy Merckx best advice for young cyclists was "Ride lots" so never underestimate that
  2. Cannondale used to make good touring bikes, but seems like they don't anymore. Maybe pick up a second hand one? Or check out Condors range of bikes, they have a couple of touring bikes in the range - www.condorcycles.co.uk
  3. Does it look cool? It doesn't work, there isn't even a belt attached to it...
  4. I think one of the last true framebuilders in SA is Francois du Toit. www.dutoitcycles.co.za Pretty keen to weld a frame myself - think it will be a cool project...and cheaper than a Pegoretti
  5. Methinks the bloke on the far left of the first pic rides for the other team...
  6. I think he might have trained Matthews...
  7. Or get the SIDI's online as the Ergo2's are on special everywhere... http://www.probikekit.com/uk/clearance/red-hot-sidi-sale.html also check www.cyclesurgery.co.uk - dunno if they shiop to SA though
  8. Wahaha! If you have a mate in the UK, let them go and collect you one froman Apple store
  9. Had one, sold it - the battery lasted about 12 hours..., and yes one AA battery, so you'll have to carry a speare penlight. If you don't ride with a camelback? If running there is no better place to put it but on your arm - alos makes for a fantastic tan mark! On the garmin you can download those same .gpx files and get turn by turn directions on the garmin, which the Polar doesn't I still think it is inferior to other GPS devices.
  10. If its GPS you're after Polar is not your answer. They prefer you use the sensors as they are more reliable than GPS. Their GPS units are incredibly bulky (not much smaller than a garmin 500) which you wear on your arm... The battery life of the GPS units are pathetic (10hrs) and non rechargable. So Polar GPS is like wearing a Polar on your wrist and Garmin on your arm, uses AAA batteries non rechargeable and doesn't last. I use Polar for running and Garmin 705 on the bike. Recently during IM, wore the Polar. During the swim, didn't pick up HR and that remained the case for the rest of the day, unless you "restart", which kind of defeats the purpose of taking time, right? For multisport - Polar has its merits as Garmin no good for running. Cycling - nothing beats Garmin
  11. Do a search - there is a hubber in Stellenbosch that is the SA agent... Apparently it is as good as they claim.
  12. 1/2 should be okay, but I think you should wait a bit befroe you tackle a full ultra tri. 4or 5 months of very rigorous training will proabbly not be the best thing you could do...
  13. http://uscyclingreport.com/content/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2302&Itemid=38 Jens didn't have that problem (3 out of 6 are boys)
  14. WTF? I suppose you are looking for a mechanic/toolman. Technicians are people who work for Telkom, they don't work on bikes! Take it to your favourite LBS, or get a torque wrench and get watching clips on youtube. Nice bike by the way...
  15. And what about Pink SRAM X-O RD, cassette and shifters?
  16. A saffa flavour in the UK. http://www.pretoriusbikes.com Frame models : Longtom, Bonnet - almost like the Italian manufacturers who named so many frames after big climbs in France and Italy.
  17. Yip... http://www.bikeradar.com/road/news/article/pinarello-2012-road-and-urban-bikes-first-look-31125
  18. Like this guy, I think it is a 1, not a zero
  19. My bad...
  20. Not much - but that does not look like Dura Ace 7900, the shifters are Campy? Caad 4 was around '98? Decent Mavic Ksyriums though... May be a Dura Ace rear derailleur with Cannondale Si cracks, what happened to the original Si fork?
  21. Selle San Marco Concor or Regal - not light but Tom Boonen/Lance/Petacchi etc cant be wrong. I currently have the Concor light (not available in SA) and had a Regal until recently...
  22. A bit OT I know, but I was cycling in the English countryside (Surrey) on Sunday morning. I overtook a much slower rider at good pace, and he got a bit of a fright and said out loud : "Hey, jou p..." not expecting I would understand. Needless to say - it made for a good laugh
  23. +1, have also done it. It is quite expensive though. I'd send them money via Paypal if I were you...
  24. Hillcrest - 50m heated... When I was a laaitie we used to paddle, swim, braai and play all day at the dam next to LC de Villiers. I accept it is small and you'll need to swim in circles a couple of times, but I suppose it can be done?
