  1. don't you have friends with such wheels? I suppose not one that will let you use his then? I have not heard of such a scheme but ask your LBS, this might become a money spinner
  2. Its a trap!!!!!!!!!!! Rather opt for the free beer or coffee with a friendly chat at a coffee shop or pub. At least they are doing some damage control. I hope you can get to the bottom of this.
  3. Bla bla bla. I am so sorry your ridiculous club as bad press that it seems to deserve. Learn some PRO. 1. PM the OP and offer to chat to him over coffe (your cost). 2. Find the victim of your riders (the mtb guy that met the gravel) and sponsor him a CTG jersey as a form of apology. 3. Repremand the riders (if you can find them) 4. Come back to thehubsa and tell us what you did to repair your clubs Kharma. Stop being arrogant in your defence of the indefensable.
  4. Slide a T into L'Ero(T)ica and voila no licencing problem (and lots of interest) For gravel we can use fountains/groenkloof area. Start in Groenies go out to fountains, turn around under the fly over or down by the river and back into groenies past the lapa and up the gravel road to the 4x4 pit and then back finishing at the lower braai area next to the stream. Lots of beer, red wine cheese ext at the finish. Possibly some "wild Boar" on the spit (Very Obilix) Alternatively get Moyo's to sponsor the whole thing and turn it into a novae art thing with some pretentious art fairy giving out prizes and hugs at the end.
  5. I think this can be a cool social event. Start with a shorting chat and ride of about 20-40km say over klapperkop ext. Finish at a coffee shop type place (magnolia dell?) then have a criterium type racing for the race snakes followed by say a beer festival with micro breweries......
  6. bike weight is determined by what is put on the frame. Bikes are built by the marketing company, frames, wheels ext are built by the manufacturer. There are so many varaibles that weight can never be confirmed. If weight is your issue, there is a web site somewhere that allows you to Build a bike and weight it in "virtual" space. Finally just pop the bike on the scale at the bike shop and voila there is the weight.

  8. and this is why the SANDF budget is being diverted to the "cash strapped" Air Force. The bluejobs don't know the first thing about budgeting and austerity......
  9. go back to your 26 inch. The problem is that you were not made for a 29er. You should not follow feshjon. This is your punishment. Take it like a man. Seriously, it could be a bit of bike setup, saddle height, or for and aft position, or just that the wheels do change your gear ratio and a new ride makes you push harder without realising it. HTFU

Sir Ben Ainslie was the magic bullet, as soon as TEAM USA dumped their other tactician, the boat started flying. Also in race 17 the final hook on the start line was pure genius. It seems to me SIr Ben had a marked difference on team morale, losing only one race and winning the rest on a trot. So it seems that a UK/AUS/NZ/USA partnership clinched the deal in the end. It is sad that a sailing mad country such as NZ, AUS or UK could not lift the trophy this year.
  13. just like the "more relaxed geometry" and the 3 x 10 speed. This bike was specced by the marketing department

the secret weapon in Oracles toolbox: Sir Ben Ainslie. All things being equal he is the worlds best sailor. Pity the Kiwi's are against an Australian team, in US colours, lead by a Brit.
  15. let us see: relaxed geometry 29er wheel set thudbuster seat post 3 x 10 gearing. NOT A RACE MACHINE a mtb for roadies.
  16. consider long sleeve tshirts as well. (possible dry wick material)
  17. The question was a valid question, can a person making money out a sport (by coaching or selling a product) be an unbiased selector? Or in plain speak, can someone with a vested interest in the final selection be involved in that selection? These are valid ethical questions. It may have been a bit unfair to focus on the good doctors involvement. As the doctor has pointed out, his perceived involvement in the industry does not give him a vested interest in the selection. Another point that the doctor does point out is that the selection committee has a fairly restricted range of selection criteria wherein they can exercise discretion, and even this is published before the time and is easily audited. So there is no beef against his position. However, as South Africans we are very cynical and sceptical of all selection process as often the criteria are poor defined and poorly communicated prior to the participants at the start of the season AND the committees in many sports are very secretive about their discretionary latitude that the exercise. This results in rather interesting selections being made and justified by further secrecy. Kudo's for the doctor for bring ethics back into selection.
  18. Here is the rub, ASG has INVESTED, not donated, committed, sponsored, or given, but INVESTED. This means that it is a business decision, which if wise will materialise in a return of capital that is higher than the prime lending rate. To link business decisions with volunteerism, is rather crude. If the primary organiser indicates that he is wanting a return on INVESTMENT, then the volunteer is essentially unpaid labour. Also it would then be wrong for the INVESTOR to complain about "working crazy hours and sacrificing", and as one poster said if it was such a shleppe why do it 50 times a year? That would be a bad investment, and as ASG is not doing too badly from all its activities, and is not slowing down their efforts in race organising, then maybe it is a very good investment, if not in direct revenue, but rather in marketing and creating a customer base. I think Ann Rand was correct about self interest, and I don't think it is fair that a business whines about how much they have "done" for a sport.
  19. I don't race. Avoid the things. I have learnt that no matter how good you are there is another guy who, is either more talented, trains harder or is more doped that will beat you. If you race you are nobody until you have beaten him. I cannot live with that stress, or afford the campaign through local, provincial, national and world champs.
  20. determine the cause of the lack of concentration. If there is no identified disease of disorder, then medication will be dangerous in the long term. In most people the following are the cause: 1. lack of interest if you don't care you won't concentrate 2. too much or too little stimulation 3. distractions (internet ext) 4. lack of sleep 5. sleep 6. stress (although deadlines and death threats have been known to get some to focus) 7. lack of practice 8. lack of exercise (or over training) 9. diet (sugars, caffeine, alcohol ext) Do a honest appreciation of your lifestyle and you interest in what you are doing before going to the doctor, psychologies or the hub. Medication is expensive and can also be banned by WADA, so no more racing....... In the end, play chess, eat fish and sleep lots
  21. between this thread and the TBMTBC thread I have used all my bandwidth, and popcorn. It seems that communication is a major problem in Souf Effrika. Everyone is talking past one another, and as a result cycling is losing. If you want to know why sport is rarely competitive and always recreational in our country, you only have to read the threads on the hub. It seems that people only get involved in administration when a. they can run it as a business (and make a profit) b. they get some power kick out of it (by bullying the real sportsmen) c. they get to select teams (so that they or their relatives can qualify) d. they get some financial gain. e. divert money and goodwill from the sport to some unrelated charity/fund. Although there are those that are honestly wanting to make a positive difference in their communities and for their sport, they are quickly subverted or expelled by those doing a-e. It seems if you want to really make a difference you will have to join a club (establish a club) and avoid "sponsors", "business partners", "charity organisations" and give your time to only club members with a similar vision. As soon as you go further than this you will be accused, rightly or wrongly of committing the sins documented in a-e above. It is a pity that there is so much talking and shouting and so little communication. The love of money is the root of all evil, Self interest is the foundation of charity.
  22. skill do, but have decided that running is slower and as much fun..........Orienteering is too small a sport for politics. and happy happy for earlier in the week.
  23. I suppose if we keep creating new classes of competition for each deviation from the norm, age, weight, brain power, fitness level, eye colour, skin colour, language, sexual orientation, ext then we can all be winners. And now introducing Babba, the world champion in the over 40, over weight, IQ range 95-105, afro-Asiatic, bi polar, non swimming, gay triathlon.
