  1. ride single speed or take up duathlon. no pushing only respek. AliG style.
  2. bike size (especially mtb) is determined by reach (ie torso and arm length) rather than leg length. You can get a longer seat post (after you have bought the bike) but not a longer top tube. If the bike is too long check the stem length as well (8 -10 cm works best). The higher the bars the shorter the stem. Consider mail order on-one has a free shipping special and CRC has some good buys as well. check each bikes geometry as some bikes have shorter head tubes (on-one) than others. The most important measurement is again the top tube length. (if you like bum in the air riding then look at the head tube length. Remembering that most manufacturers also do not scale down on the head tube on the 16 inch bikes , resulting in flipped stems or Bomber-like handlebar set ups. On 16 inch and smaller, riser bars don't make sense). Buying a second hand mtb is dodgy, as we all have tumbled. If a guy is selling his bike, why? True cyclists never part with their loved ones. Buy second hand until you have got the size and fit right then spoil yourself with a new bling bling bike.
  3. The wheels and shock have some value. The group set is high end but used. Frame is holding it all together. Unfortunately, as it is second hand, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. So putting it up in the classifieds at about R8- 10k and enjoy being flamed may be the only way to go.
  4. duathletes and biathletes are one sport to short to be respected as real athletes. Pentathletes are just show offs
  5. duathlon
  6. The most comprehensive admission of guilt from LA yet: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/armstrong-it-was-impossible-to-win-tour-de-france-without-doping

  9. I can from running via duathlon. Cycling was a pussy cop out.
  10. who are u calling a toppie. I may be old but I am not over the hill yet.
  11. bike racks are the eternal curse of mtbking. modern frames are designed to be ridden not clamped. ONly the racks that use the fork as a mounting point consider this. The old "clamp your frame types" are looking for trouble.
  12. Ahh, but it is not just R50. There is a whole side of funding that is not visible: as the official SA cycling body: they have a advantaged place in terms of accessing LOTTO money, and various sport sponsorships and endorsements. They can extract affiliation fees from the provinces and clubs (which are paid by the cyclists) They can levy fees on race organisers (paid again by the cyclists) They can leverage government funding at national, provincial and local level. They can develop and rent out facilities. They could organise events. They can add levies (for administration) on athletes selected to represent South Africa. They can leverage advertising conncessions. They can aggressively police and fine the cycle industry (if they wanted to of course) They can fine cyclists, affiliates and organisers for infractions there is a very long list of possible revenue streams when you thinkm of it
  13. planet X has also been known to "help out" other manufacturers with quality time trial bikes. Got a good cred in the UK. Very good direct marketing model, cuts out the middleman and offers some very good deals on bikes. Remember to pack the box with extras to keep the postage costs down.
  14. Groenies is safe.
  15. As a average fun rider (which the Argus was meant for) I kinda care. Why should the "funrider" championships of the world come under threat so that "more saffas" can compete in international events. Also why should fun riders be expected to pay for the administration of "elite" sport and then still be dictated to on how their events be run so as to accomodate these "elite" primo donna's. The Argus organisers should retaliate and ban all licenced cyclist from the event. While we on this point of international competetition, why is it that people selected to compete internationally still have to pay for their own expenses? Why as SASCOC not extended full national colours to age-groupers in many sports? and finally If CSA was really serious about cycling, what have they done about road safety lately?
  16. As I don't swim, as a dauthlete I am safe.
  17. LA had 7 tdf wins, before he failed to defend accusations against him for doping (implicitly accepting that he cheated). He now has none. Yes he owns a number of cycling shirts that are yellow, but he can no longer claim he earnt them. He is like a fun rider at the Argus with a lot of yellow clothing in his cupboard. A very fit poser. Sad really.
  18. ride with Rhino, cheetah, hippos and crocs, don't think so. But then this is what I do at Rietvlei: http://www.psc.org.za/images/bg2.jpg

    Duathlon Races

with all the running and cycling races available, you only need one a month to prove your point. With Andre's series, the provincials, nationals and worlds, there are enough.
  20. will prevent the theft flying on SAA with it
  21. BigH starting this thread, now that is ironic.
