  1. No I think I bought Ben's following ????
  2. You guys are scaring me. I'll bail and just do the 40km and have beer at the end if its too crazy.
  3. This!! And if it weren't for the 33 000 odd once-a-year-wonders there would be no chance of having this route closed for a bunch of 200 to race. So rather than criticize, appreciate the numbers that make up the race's involvement in having the race. I personally feel much more comfortable riding enduro / playful singletrack than sitting close to roadies. I'm a weekend warrior and only do it because I enjoy cycling. I got on the bike 7 times this year (have an 18month old and I try to help out at home), and did a 04:25 which I'm quite proud of given my training and the fact that I made geometry changes to the bike I was on in the start chute.
  4. They missed one crucial thing in the promo videos - people want to hear what the hub sounds like
  5. Should just have been steel instead of aluminium.
  6. I rode Coetzenburg last Saturday. Before that I haven't been there since Dec 2015. There's already quite a number of new additions going on there. Only ever rode it twice so kept getting lost (sort of). This is super cool!
  7. Racing Ralphs wear quite quickly. Buy the Ardent 2.2 from CWC for R399 or come and fetch one for R200 from me with loads of life left.
  8. Thanks guys. Yes exactly. Things always look much much easier on video. I'll have to go there a couple of times then as I don't really have the fitness to ride the route twice. Also I'm on a XC type of bike ☺
  9. From the posted video the DH lines look quite rideable for a semi-noob like me. How does it compare technically to something like the Cobra on Hooggekraal? Never ridden Tokai, but would love to after seeing that video, jumps galore... Now that I'm comfortable taking the gap jump on Lombards I'd like to take on a few more. I tried taking the "small" gap on Hooggekraal below the Widowmaker (to the right of the trail, from a rock and landing on a rock too) but failed dismally as I couldn't maintain enough speed going into it. Now I'm a bit more versigtig.. Don't want to fall, but really want to ride more trails like the Cobra.
  10. Did a similar job, ended up removing the hose connector as it doesn't drain quickly enough. At the moment my showers, baths and washing machine's runoff just flows through a cheap black pipe onto the grass and I move the pipe around. Next step is to install a tank and pump. Go to one of these places that sells chemicals and buy a 250lt blue drum (R500 max) and then buy a small R900 pump from builders. You can also buy a more expensive purpose built tank that goes underground but that may cost a bit more. Dig it in and once it fills to a level pump it out onto the garden (not through your irrigation though) If the tank is small enough your greywater won't stand idle longer than 2-3 days at a time before being emptied and you wont need to treat it at all..
  11. Without knees you can't ride stoopit
  12. Ek kon darem help met daai troue. En my bikes was nog nooit so goed gediens nie... Net jammer jy trou nie weer dat ons daar kan kom service nie
  13. Yeah my next set of tyres were also going to be Canis + Ibex, but now I'm having doubts... Maybe Goma + Saguaro rather..
  14. Well done Wolf. This is one competition I wouldn't have minded winning!! If you are keen to sell (at a descent price, not R500), feel free to PM me. Otherwise, if the distributor may feel like offering us other buggers who didn't win a descent discount on a pair, PM me
  15. I've got a set of Impact Low's that I use on flats (bought second hand) I'd love the clipless version as well for when I ride less technical stuff on my hardtail
  16. I'd rather get a mechanically doped bike that will make my 36t feel like a 50t on climbs. Should be cheaper too!
  17. With the registration code expired, I can't see saffers forking out $45 to join the program.. Actually, that should be waived completely - no reason for this to exist in the first place. It'll just stop me from ever using the service in the first place, as I never foresee buying that much stuff from overseas to save R1000 over and above the issues like warranty replacements etc etc when buying internationally.
  18. Cool guys. And if you need your bike serviced just take it to Louis.. Benefit is any parts needing replacement comes at the very good Evobikes prices instead of RRP.
  19. Is that a 1x 650B that he's riding? No shifters on the bike and the rims has 650 on it..? If it is, go 27.5"!!
  20. Get as short a stem as you can, will help you going down trails. Also drop your handlebar below the headset spacers. But yes, 177cm isn't really large.
  21. Just an average gradient of 2741% over the full course, thus 5500% odd when you're climbing. Sounds about right for a moon launch
  22. Cape Cobras come in every colour, including completely black, spotted, greenish, golden, straw, brown, banded. Much more likely that it was one than a Rinkhals. Just also remember, most of us won't be able to quickly identify snakes from each other riding along (unless it's a puffy of course) Look at this Cape Cobra:
  23. Most high end frames are made in China / Taiwan, including Spez. On a different note, one of my friends' baby was made in China, seems like everything gets made there these days.
  24. As I see the Spez vs Pyga debate: If you're a pro and skinny guy (<75kg) then by all means get a Spez. If you're more the type of typical proportions South African men seem to be, get a Pyga. It's not always about what the guy that wins is using, but maybe about what the weekend warrior (ie masses) would be more comfortable / better etc on. And that's why I vote Pyga.
