  1. Haha i remember "BoringMan" having this discussion on Toyota Cadence many years ago - Oh how the Boringman is missed by many
  2. From someone who spent years on a cheap mag trainer then on an electro mag trainer then onto a smart trainer - Well the mag trainers were actually expensive in their day but nowdays they are cheapies. Road Bike 2X8 or 2X9 - Getting the resistance right on a mag trainer is hit and miss at least with some gears you can get it dialed in. When I moved from heart rate based training to power based training on TR i used virtual power (Not sure if you can do this on ZWIFT) all I did was add the speed cadence sensor and with the gears you can get just as good experience as you would on a smart trainer. I use an old TREK 970 steel frame with 2 X 9 (Campy of course) on all my trainers and still going strong - well at least the bike is - me on the other hand, well that and entirely different topic.
  3. Off topic But - I feel your pain - I belonged to a Sales Managers breakfast club a number of years back. there were 3 Sales Managers from 3 different well known vehicle brands, there biggest problem was sales staff retention, they couldn't believe us guys in the capital equipment game had sales staff with 15 - 20 years service, if you had 15 - 20 months service in their game you got a long service award. We told them our secret - "We don't fire people for lack of sales, we manage and mentor them until they achieve their targets" Pffft they responded, we don't manage people we manage sales, that's why we are called sales managers. Car sales industry is a rats nest of broken salesmen because they keep getting fired for not moving numbers. I gave one a job, he'd been fired 6 times in 3 years, couldn't understand why he was still in the job after 3 months of not hitting his target - today 9 years later he is still in the industry as one of the top performers and often gets hunted by competitor brands.
  4. this is the safest way to go - it's expensive but at least your car is covered, I did the same with my Audi, didn't get it as a freebie but at a seriously reduced price and they had the Thule removable towbar fitted, if i remember correctly i paid 6.5K including fitting
  5. mmmm I dont know so much - I mean, virtually every cell phone make can be repaired including apple and Samsung with both genuine and generic parts of your choice
  6. It was a long time back but I seem to remember about 3.5K - a new computer was 40K at the time. and it affects the warranty on the entire vehicle - 4 months later the turbo blew up and that was an 80K repair bill covered by the warranty so it was well worth the investment
  7. I still wonder why these brands don't support aftermarket repair industry with genuine parts like batteries, screens and buttons etc. At least it opens some more options for owners with out of warranty products like the cell phone repair industry - I have the same issue with IDT, lots of dead kickr laying around and all they need is a small electronic component that is not available to the general public.
  8. Had the same issue with Merc Vito - had to have a Merc towbar module fitted by Merc - It basically protects the main computer and if not fitted voids the warranty on the vehicle.
  9. And they would care even less - Not to get me wrong, i'm with you on this, but any electronic goods when it come to warranty i wouldn't waste my time - So just cry a little, bin it and go buy a new one. Back in the days of DION Wired i bought a big ass smart TV and Soundbar both the same make SAMSUNG, I could never get the sound bar to connect took it back 7 times, they refused to replace it always sending it for repair which would take up to 3 weeks. When i threatened them with legal action they were like - "Join the que" - None of the local apps would load on the TV, after months of backward and forward i eventually through a contact got hold of some technical manager at SAMSUNG, gave home the serial number to be told it's not a model built for SA, its built for Philippines, when i told him i bought it at DION Wired he said impossible - emailed him the receipt - response was sorry its out of warranty cant help. I drank a few beers the day Dion Wired closed its doors
  10. Do you think they really care - SA probably represents less than 1% of their global Turnover - so they leave the politics up to the local distributor to sort out.
  11. Pvt event, by invite only - "How will they know?"
  12. There i fixed it
  13. Well it does come with a hole punch as well - but you need to supply the hammer
  14. Don't laugh at me, because i read this somewhere on the WWW with a similar problem which had a simple fix Where the rear brake hyd cable touches the frame wrap it with some rubber tape to insulate it against the frame - according to this clever guy it worked and the theory was that the sound is resonance from the brake system traveling into the frame which can also travel from the brake line into the frame. I never tried it, but hey its a simple hack and if it works then problem solved. On another note - Did you try different brake pad material ?
  15. I honestly don't know where one would get 0.5kg off the bike - I think it's the wheels that are a touch heavy. the bars are 720 from my 29er - I do have the original narrow bars that are carbon and the matching carbon seatpost, but its missing a bolt on the seat clamp, thats why i have the bontragger seat post on it
  16. 10.55 kg
  17. I see it sold yesterday
  18. Not if it's designed for cycling - We bought some orange rain jackets from Decathlon for TB, designed specifically for cycling with vents, they worked really well and cost about 700 ronds
  19. I was in the same boat - RBC charged me 6 274.10 ronds - replaced stanchions, bushings & seal kit service kit for FOX float 29 - 32mm fork. I'm in JHB, their system of loading the job card online and courier JHB -> PE -> JHB is properly dialed - I would highly recommend them. A mate stripped his fork to repaint the lowers and then sent the stripped fork for same treatment - also very happy with the result
  20. Come on CT hubbers - surely the new train on the southern line from Simons Town back to CT is safe to use ? with bikes they gonna need more than just an Uber to transport the bikes
  21. Thanks for the feedback In my mind I was sitting between 5.5 & 6.5 K Also maybe thinking of stripping it and selling off as parts
  22. I'm a bit confused here. so you want to cycle from Cape Town to Cape Point and then use transport to return to Cape Town, correct?
  23. I'm busy clearing out the bike collection and amongst them is this TREK 9.8 full carbon 26er hard tail, built up with all the parts i upgraded on my 29er SRAM GXP cranks 1 X 10 XO Type 2 RD XO brakes XL Frame American Classic wheels - tubeless Rockshox Reba fork with remote lockout Bike is in really good condition - few chips and scratches from the trails What would be a fair asking price ?
  24. On RBC website they have ROCKSHOX ND Tuned bushings I read somewhere that Rockshox no longer offer bushings as parts, only complete lowers, but i'm sure they can be replaced with aftermarket like ND Tuned
  25. Uber ? I'm not from CT but maybe ride from Cape Point to Simons town and then catch the train on the southern Line
