  1. I can't for the life of me remember, but one of the Pro Tour teams had a whole stack of their bikes stolen at a big European race a few years back. So yes, other countries have bike theft too.
  2. Doubt you will notice any perfomance gain going from X5 to SLX. It's not really much of an upgrade.
  3. What about anodising? I'm sure that powder coating would be too thick.
  4. Not quite a Dogma, but I had a similar looking crack on my Raleigh fork. The bike shop told me it was only a paint crack at the point where the aluminium steerer was bonded to the carbon. Raleigh did offer to replace, even though the warranty had expired. I never did replace and never had any trouble from it.
  5. There have been numerous posts/threads on the poor quality of Avids.
  6. Won't take long for the Chinese to copy this too.
  7. Silverback.............not the most exotic of the brands, but good value for your money and if all the compliments on the Hub is anything to go by, they have the best after sales service by far.
  8. Way too expensive, wouldn't pay more than R2 000 for that. The picture isn't too clear, but the g/set looks a bit scratched.
  9. I spray normal Q20 onto the pivots of the derailure and put a drop of Squirt chain lube into the jockey wheel bearings.
  10. Fulcrum looks much nicer than the Elites and they are higher up the food chain than the Elites.
  11. Official launch seems to be 1 Sep each year, although some models appear earlier than that. I see that the Addict is making a return for 2014
  12. What some people don't seem to understand is that people buy second hand because they want a bargain. No one is going to buy a second hand item with no warranty, just to save R50. I have seen second hand bikes costing more than the discounted prices offered by bike shops.
  13. I've heard the Silverback road disc bikes are arriving in August
  14. What's the issue here? It's a place to trade and that's exactly what people do. If someone makes a profit, good luck to them.
  15. The price difference would not be worth it. I'd stick with the Silverback
  16. I've had first had experience with their warranty replacement process and it is not what you would expect from a company which is the largest bicycle dealer in SA. I love the Scott brand, but wouldn't buy one in SA as long as Probike (now called Scott Sport SA) are the importers.
  17. Didn't your friend's girl friend have a Pina in that colour (with Microshift parts)? Could it be her old frame? I see she is riding something else now.
  18. I cannot agree.............some of the language right here on the Hub leaves a lot to be desired. You have guys selling peddles, helmuts and my personal favourite, XingXing wheels (actually Equinox). Or the people who insist on referring to cycling shoes as cleats or complete wheels as rims. Then you get the brand new bikes with mud on the wheels or the demo models never been ridden. Based on the language in the ad, it could very well be a hubber selling on Gumtree.
  19. I think it is great that Eben (or is it Evan) is expanding. His service is outstanding.
  20. Anybody know what is happening? I cycled passed Augustyn Brothers Cycles in PE and see that the name has been changed to Coimbra Cycles and they are now Scott Agents. Did Coimbra buy them out or are they just using Coimbra's name.
  21. The earlier fake models used a round seat post (the real Dogmas have an oval shaped seat post). I have heard (not sure if it is true or not) that the newer fake models have a seat post identical to the original. There is another thread on fake models sold on Gumtree and somebody posted the tell tail signs of the fakes. I'm you will find it if you do a search.
  22. Proof positive that cyclists think they own the road................they don't. Firstly (as mentioned elsewhere), it is not legal to ride 2 abreast (look it up) and Secondly, it is just plain discourteous to other road users to take up a whole lane and hold them up
  23. Bicycling Magazine had a test/write up on a 650b bike and they rekoned that it is not worth it as the difference is not significant. Anyway, despite this.........i also want to go the 650b route. From the little that I know, the wheels and tyres are hellishly expensive
