  3. Watts friction loss on this is apparently not too bad. But not awesome reviews in general. UFO Drip is also in that region but at least they get good reviews. Absoluteblack with their GRAPHENLUBE is $140 for 140ml.

  7. I've raced and trained on both..... And I would NOT take the genric wheels. Wrote two sets off........ Not worth it if you are going to ride them lots.

  10. Zipp 404 Firecrest. If you can find the 303, also good. The riffles in the break surface makes it good under breaking for a carbon surface. Wheels are fairly lite for the 58mm deep section and the roll quite smooth. That's what I would choose
  11. So an old saying in business.............. Location, location, location. The above points refer. As I understand it, CSA puts out a "tender" to host SA champs. The towns / Provinces then have to tender/pitch a proposal and then CSA decides who "wins". Then CSA basically shoves the organisation and responsibility / cost down to the Province / town. In the past.....because it is SA's, there are not many (if any) sponsors involved. This makes the event a bit of a bastard and the town / province is usually left out of pocket after the event. So nobody puts their hand up anymore....... Hence the random spots selected.......... My solution would be for CSA to host the event. They organise. They budget for it out of our license fees and lotto money. Pick a town. Bloem. CT. Pretoria. Airports and rentals are important. Keep it there for a couple of years. (Consistency)
  12. Come, come guys.......Provincials have been the second week in Jan for the past 5-10 years in a row? It does not take rocket science to get info on an event that racers keep their eye on........ Just saying........
  13. I like this VERY much. I know you guys put a LOT of time and effort into the sport. It definitely does not go unnoticed. And it is admired and appreciated. Personally the above format sounds perfect. Gut feel why the whole system changed was to get more MONEY into CSA as a rider only needs a license to compete at SA and not EARN his spot there.
  14. Well........I am part of two of the biggest clubs in Pretoria. None was received. The whole colors policy is a joke in my opinion. Looking at other sports cycling is different and it does not favor the consistent strong riders. I got my colors both in TT and road. So it doesn't phase me. Other sports would have provincials as a SELECTOR and MUST-DO race for SA champs. If you don't get selected for your province, you can't go to SA's. It has to be an honor to compete at SA champs. Then you might get entries again for provincials. You don't just race for "colors" that, in my case means a thingy on my garage wall.......you race to be selected for your province to go to SA's My 2c

For me as an individual to participate in my Provincial champs: Club fee R750 - cheapest that I know off in Pretoria and joining a club is required by province/CSA CSA membership fee R250 CSA domestic racing license fee R500 Entry fee for the Provincials race R400 Petrol to get to race and back (And this could be zero if you spunge off a buddy) R200 ecl. toll Total R2,100.00
  16. It's just sad to see everything go to **** in SA. It was once a very proud thing to participate and achieve on provincial level. And only the strongest in the province got selected to go to SA champs.
  17. So forward a year or 3.................... Had a look at who's who in the zoo at the past weekend's Gauteng road camps. Shame. Between Gauteng North that could not get the race off the ground, Central Gauteng that had to move venue, the stupid expensive entry fee and the current state of CSA with their Value-for-money-license fee (NOT!!) there were only 284 cyclist that took part. A total of 4 girls pitched up for the Elite woman race..........

  20. to go a little off-topic here......... The only place where "Junk miles" can be mentioned is where and when you cycle for a living. Pro. All other recreational cyclists can do what they want and what they love. If it is riding far that makes you happy, go for it. Short hard rides makes you smile.....yah....go harder. Coffee rides with friends. Sure, why not. Training on a program to achieve a sub3 what what. Why not. As long as you are having fun, right? Why else are we doing this crazy sport as none professionals? Fun.

  25. Solar is a gimmick. Been using mine for 6 months now. The battery on the 1040 is pretty awesome having said the above. Screen quality also pretty crap with the solar units vs normal. And then on one of my rides in December I noticed a hair on the screen......turns out it was a crack from right to left. One moment it's fine, next moment it was cracked. No crashes. No drops. Nudda. In the ride. Garmin SA's report took 2 weeks and states: "Corning Gorilla Glass DX is used for the Power Glass lens and is designed to be scratch-resistant, but not scratch-proof. Impact cosmetic mark on the screen has lead to a cosmetic crack. Warranty voided" So that is that. Cost me R3400 to repair. Which feels like a ripoff for a piece of glass. Even though it has gorilla in it...... Reading on the interwebs, there are a few people around the world that also has cracked solar 1040 units. Coincidence? Garmin thinks so. So that is my experience on the unit.
