  1. Awesome to hear! A while back I spoke to Ruan (if memory serves me well) about buying forks selas & he was very helpful. Do they build wheels as well?
  2. I'm running a 2.3 purgatory (not s-works) & side walls is holding up well ( for now i guess). The side walls are quite thin. I suppose sharp rocks will cut through these easer than thicker side walls, but then again no tyre is fail-proof. Isn't the 'armadillo' purgatory having a thicker sde wall? Are they available in sa? Yeah at R370 i was also willing to take the gamble.
  3. I take you are very happy with your Sukuma. Would the Sukuma frame be able to fit 650B wheels?
  4. Me too... (not the SX though - $$$)
  5. PS: Not shooting down your bike at all. I just love my trance X1 2009 (which almost went into the classifieds )
  6. LOL. You don't want to know what I found when searching for Pacific Rim torrent couple of months ago...
  7. Have you got any links to the joyride? What year was it? Edit: This looks like a trance
  8. I know we discussed it & you said the Trance X2 2011 I have hight be on the "light side" in terms of what you want to do, but it's still for sale & brand new as stated in the ad. Have only received it yesterday so will post some pics if you (or anyone) interested.
  9. I recently bought a 2nd hand Morewood Zula & while I got it at a good price it has some issues I had to sort out. It's hard to describve the fault, but at first I thought the bushes were worn. Checked, but no issues there. When the shock is compressed & at the point when rebound is supposed to kick in it rebounds fast for the first (+-5mm) & then rebound kicks in. Have the nitrogen got into the chamber of the damper / oil? No oil leaking at the rebound / pro-pedal lever. I know this isn't the infamous "suck down". Guess this is something I need to speak to JB about. Any advise?
  10. Congrats Greg! You're the man! I've quickly worked it out at roughly 47,1 km/h average! & the 0.4 seconds (+-) that he was faster than MH is +-5 metres! I was thinking Greg is losing too much speed between those 3 big jumps when he didn't pedal at all, but he nailed it!
  11. Yup - couple posts back. Thought it's supposed to run over gnarly stuff easier than 26ers. Skills is key here!
  12. Might be the lube /oil you using. I kinda like the champagne-ish colour, but if deore will last longer I'll take silver gears above blingy stuff. Also the shifting sounds a bit brighter on steel cassettes.
  13. I did forget to mention mine is 10speed, but in general shouldn't make a difference to this discussion.
  14. My issue I bought a slx groupset, but they didn't have cassettes in 36-11 in stock when I ordered. They sent my whole parcel without the cassette saying they will do so when the next shipment arrives. Now the shipment arrived & they didn't receive 36-11 cassettes. I heard the larger gears on the SLX are the same compund as XT & the smaller gears are the same compound as the deore. There is a colour difference in SLX (smaller gears) & the deore though. Anyone know whether that info is true? Then Deore should last as long as slx, but if you use your big gears very often then it might even outlast the SLX in that regard.
  15. I'm sitting with same issue. I have a set of Easton Havens as well as a set of AM Classic MTB. CWC doesn't have 36-11 in SLX so either I wait (for undisclosed time) or I opt for the Deore instead. Not THAT much of weight penalty, but I was wondering how about durability? I know the SLX's last looooonnnnngggg. http://bikescale.com...mar=14&sk=1&s=3
  16. I have a cold steel spartan which is *as new* that i'll sell for R1000 if you interested. Can post actual pics if you want.
  17. I hope this is the right place to ask my question... I'm 1.78 with an inseam of 80cm & I have a medium Trance 2009 still with the curved top tube. The cockpit seems too cramped for me with any stem shorter than 90mm. Even with wide-ish bars. (710mm) TT = 585mm with 90mm stem = 675mm I also have a Morewood Shova in large with a 45mm stem & 730mm bars TT = 610mm with 45mm stem = 655mm It doesn't make sense, but I feel so much more "in the cockpit" on my morewood Shova large. I feel too much "leaned over the bars" (for lack of better term) on the trance. Now my question is: I can get a new Giant Trance (26er) in large, but the giant site states 79.25cm / 31.2" standover on the large. I see the giant site states the same standover height for the previous model with the curved top tube in large which IMO should have been a tad higher since it had a very long head tube (165mm) compared to the current model (145mm). Both large Can anyone please measure the actual standover for me? (30cm from front of seat tube) Any other inputs will be appreciated. 2011 models http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/trance.x1/7321/44095/#overview 2009 models http://www2.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/mountain/2272/32146/?collections_id=4
  18. Sorry for the (sort of) Hi-jack, but since we're onthe topic of hope wheels I was pondering the idea of buying myself a set of "burlier" wheels for trail riding. I have a set of AM classic MTB on my 1 bike & a set of Easton Havens on the other bike (Shova). I didn't hear too good things about the AM classics (& no better in this thread) so I started to consider selling off the AM classics as they're still in very good nic & running true & invest in a set of Hope hubs laced to some ZTR Flows. Then I saw the Nukeproof Generator series wheelsets & only heard good things about them. They use Sunringle rims. Any thoughts to share?
  19. Left handed as well, but ride moto style!
  20. Thanx. I will measure the ID of the head tube at some point & do some enquiry regarding it. Will post feedback if I've done so & how it transformed the bike.
  21. Was looking at 1 of our eskom bills of 2007 (can't remember month now) the other day & I was shocked to see an increase of nearly 400% !!!
  22. Yeah they've always done that. Why dodn't they just list the frame weights? (with or without shock)
  23. Very interesting geometry. I see they fixed the cramped cockpit feel of the mediums. TT on a medium it is now 600mm compared to the 585mm & a large coming in at 610mm of the previous generation(s). Maybe it's ust me that's happy about it, but now a nice & short stem can be fitted to the medium. The price is a bit steep IMO considering wheels & in house brand cockpit stuff. Would love to test ride 1 of these to say the least!
  24. Does the 3x10 shimano cranks have 104BCD?
