  1. Or when you Africanise it: Can you cycle on a highway? Why not Is it legal? Who cares.
  2. This is pisspot poor. Number collection Thursday? Friday? Cycle lab? Solomons? Does anyone know? Does ASG know? Last sms I received was last Friday: "Hekpoort awaits etc etc, entry is confirmed, race number to follow" Now we are 24 hours away from the original CL number collection plans, no further sms or email, and nobody seems to know what the hell is going on. Nice one, ASG. Way to go.
  3. Do yourself a favour. Log off now, and forget about the hub for a week or so. Nobody criticises CWC or ASG, for any reason, and gets away with it. When the fans see this post, you are in for a reaming.
  4. Why not? I have no problem with an approaching car giving a hoot, at least I know he's there. Then again, I don't block lanes when riding, so I have no reason to be aggro with motorists.
  5. Give it time, and practice as much as possible. It's not your ankles. Once the tension is properly set, unclipping is more technique than force.
  6. Great news, thanks. +-55km? The Valverde loop is 28k's, so please tell me that the plan is to do that section on both sides of the road.
  7. Like at Wilro?
  8. Me too. WTF???? Have only done 2 seeding races this year (B&D, Argus), and they chuck me in B. This is going to be painful.
  9. Nice. Not only help out people in need, but also bury the hatchet at the same time. I LIKE IT.
  10. ASG can't afford it. It's Friday, they have to buy fuel for the helicopter today.
  11. 3. Find a new mechanic. If the limit screws were set correctly, this would never have happened.
  12. Johan helped lots of people, myself included, on many, many ocassions. Always willing to provide advice. Unfortunately, some people are sensitive, and find his comments and behaviour to be a bit abrasive. Personally, I don't, I think he's a great guy He tells it like it is, which is far better (IMO) than all the sensitive pc type comments that are all too common these days
  13. Just had my first encounter with Wiggle, and either my luck is changing or these guys are seriously on the ball. Last Tuesday, on our public holiday, I got their usual specials email. Even with the crazy GBP exchange rate, prices on wheelsets were too good to pass so I ordered a set. On previous CRC orders I used DHL, but their costs are getting out of hand so I opted for the tracked post office delivery, additional cost GBP3.99 Just phoned to check the local tracking, nearly fell out of my chair ~ my wheels are at the post office ready for collection. Exactly one week from payment to delivery. I have had previous DHL deliveries that took longer than that.
  14. Just make sure you check opening times at http://www.ridekyalami.co.za/. Most weekdays its from 4.15pm, but sometimes a bit later if the track is being used for something else.
  15. Cradle has road and offroad. There is not a lot of car traffic in the Cradle, and a huge number of cyclists, so provided they don't ride like idiots (ie. stay in the cycling lane) there will be no problem with regards to their safety. For a new rider, just doing the 28k loop from Valverde will be a massive challenge. The Cradle is NOT flat. Or Go to Kyalami late afternoon during the week. 4.2k's per lap, about 50m of climbing per lap. No cars at all, but a tough ride. 4.2k's at Kyalami will feel like 10k's to someone who doesn't have a lot of leg strength.
  16. If the furthest they have ridden is 20km, then training at Suikerbos is a really bad idea. They will be lucky to make it up the first climb. They are going to kaaaaak. Make sure the paramedics are on speed dial, for the few areas where you may get reception. Not a good plan imo. Rather take them to the Cradle, do the Valverde loop (28km with about 350m of climbing per lap)
  17. Ask JB, he will probably tell you the limiting factor is not the braking surface, it is usually the number of spokes the wheel has. Less spokes means a lighter, but less durable wheel. Personally, I have never had a wheel that has worn out it's braking surface, but I have had several that crack where the spokes attach to the rim. I like light wheels, so I accept they won't last as long.
  18. Lets hope that suitably qualified people locate it and get it moved to a safe area, before some or other ignorant bonehead kills it.
  19. If this is a new version of the old "name and shame" threads, please put me out of my misery and kill me now. If someone pisses you off, and you want to identify them, just DO IT.
  20. Please excuse the pun, but he is taking you for a ride. Kick his butt to the kerb. You sound like a social cyclist, as most of us are. There is ample info on the internet, and on forums such as this one, to do it yourself ~ and it won't take a year to see progress.
  21. This advice is spot on, and has never caused me any problems. Wrt using Sunlight liquid, I've been using it for years on cars and bikes. Never had a single problem with it damaging the finish. I suspect that those who have had problems maybe don't rinse the bike properly after washing. KISS ~ prepsol, rinse, wash, rinse, dry, lube. Done.
  22. Correct. And some will say the durability will be Tiagra > 105 > Ultegra > Dura Ace. All will do the job. 105 will not break the bank, do anything you want it to do, and last a very long time for the average Joe.
  23. Hope he/she is ok, that is a really fast section. A crash there is going to be hard and very painful. It would be interesting to know how long they waited for medical attention, Suikerbos is pretty desolate midweek, and cellphone reception is dodgy at best.
  24. Sounds like the driver has an issue or two with cyclists. Finding him is the easy part, prosecuting him is another story. With our wonderful judicial system, he will probably walk away with barely a slap on the wrist. Finding him and cracking his skull might sound like a good idea, but it really isn't. That will probably be rewarded with a few nights behind bars.
