  1. go race buffels or midlands at full tilt.. that's the advice I got from a seasoned IM athlete ( 9h30 age grouper) I did this in 2012. In 2013 my daughter was born a couple days before my 2c
  2. I have a wheel fetish, so I'm fortunate to have a set for every occasion! Good luck with the venture, great idea
  3. I don't think it is the full 90kms ? might be wrong..
  4. Thanks for the race report guys, I must say when I did this race last year, I had the same concerns on the bike, it is a seriously dangerous route. I nearly got cleaned out a few times by cars and trucks. If you make the run with both legs intact and no injuries, the run course is great and the general organization is top class. However, I wont be back until the bike course is changed.
  5. I'm on an Adamo TT
  6. both are good frames, so as Red zone said go for the better ultegra setup and use the 4k saving towards a set of deep section carbon wheels or an ISM saddle !! I've been on a Felt B16 since 2011, done two IMSA, four half IM distance races and Long Dist World Champs and still happy with my setup. I upgraded my crank to a carbon FSA and tri-bars to Uberhund during that time. My mate is on an ARGON and has had no complaints at all. Try get a test ride on both bikes, that might also help you choose. cheers
  7. course is very flat, only a small hill on the way back (under the highway ~5kms from the finish)
  8. Cool they also holding an "official " practice swim between 9-11am on saturday at the venue. It just means there are lifesavers around in case the wetsuit can't keep you afloat !
  9. so ... is anyone else racing this Sunday ? Registration + Practice swim on Saturday weather looking good
  10. any second of TV, that shows our fat useless savage president Zuma !
  11. does PAGAD have a bicycle division ? hope you get it back !
  12. madness
  13. one thing to remember - keep your hydration and nutrition needs separate. for me .. 2-4hr rides - usually 32GI bottle over 2hrs + jungle oats bar every hr 4-6hr - add in a chicken sandwich. just my 2c
  14. its a pity, these are the races that go me into triathlon (+ many other mates) they were well priced, always sold-out and gave you a chance to thrash it out for an hr or so. there really is minimal races up here in JHB, + I dont want to race offroad triathlons, its too uncomfortable riding through rock gardens on a tri bike..
  15. niiiiice .. it floats
  16. very nice good deal !
  17. swim was average, they placed big buoys on the corners to stop guys walking.. but that never helped ! bike was ok, besides nearly losing it on the downhill the course was better marshalled this year, no stray caravaning folk after doing the race for the previous 2 yrs, I finally learnt to hold something back for the hot run ! 44min / 10km got me home in 2h42 good vibe at the Hunters tent and as always a well organised IM event.
  18. the wind last year was b****, coming down the big hill with a disc if the wind picks up I'm drafting the caravans in the middle of the road !
  19. hahah
  20. nothing worse than a wheelsucking lurka..
  21. CGT had provincial dua champs a week after SA Tri champs in March, hence a fairly low turnout. I did Ironman this year, and 3 weeks later we had SA duathlon champs, was a bit tough to get the speed up but the shorter race distance was great! I'm racing Long Distance Dua World Champs in Sep, so just whipped out the IM training program (less the swimming) and started up again. The cold, early mornings are ... I should be super strong or buggered by the start of the new season..
  22. Duathlon is tough, reckon its harder than triathlon. I'm racing Zofingen (LD Duathlon World Champs) in Sep.. Ironman looks like a breeze compared to this.. will let you guys know if its tougher!
  23. Congrats Garf ! IM and family can be done.. (the wife is super chilled so it does help!) my little girl was born end of Feb this yr, I managed to get in enough training and still raced IMSA in April. luckily i only had a few weeks and then tapered.. PS : take your running shoes with you everywhere, I got in 15km runs from the hospital while mom and baby were sleeping
  24. very sad. RIP Burry
